House-proud Andrew Winter sells the message

Buyer beware. Selling Houses Australia host Andrew Winter says a lot of renovation shows are hosted by people with limited real estate experience.

Selling Houses Australia host Andrew Winter says some hosts of other renovation shows promise more than they deliver.

With 25 years experience in the real estate market, including fronting the original UK series, he is skeptical of the many lifestyle shows purporting to offer useful homemaker tips.

“They don’t always tackle the issues, that’s the truth,” he told TV Tonight. “And that’s what we happily do. They’re fascinating to watch obviously, but to be quite honest, we do what we say we’re going to do.

“The biggest difference is the credentials of who’s hosting it,” he says.

“Quite often they will say ‘he’s an ex-agent’ or ‘she sold a house once in 1973.’

Winter sold his first house at the age of 17 in the UK, and has since sold luxury homes, dream homes, derelict farm buildings and 400 year old houses. After fronting the UK series of Selling Houses, Winter now calls the Gold Coast home, which allows him to carry on with the brand which originally began on Channel 4.

“The formats of Grand Designs, Selling Houses, Location Location and Property Ladder all came out from the same stable. All were done by people who were experts in their industry,” he says.

“All of them were hosted by experts.”

Tonight the ASTRA-winning show tackles a 3 bedroom house in Newcastle.

Selling Houses Australia

  2. I used to find Andrew Winter’s ‘acidic’ tongue a little offputting when I first watched the old UK version of the show, but the man knows his stuff, and there’s truth in the notion that you have to be cruel to be kind. Selling Houses Australia is the only real estate based lifestyle show that I watch regularly.
