Lost fastracked

Next week's episode of Lost will air on 7TWO just hours after it has screened in the US.

Does it get any faster than this? Not for drama anyway….

Next week’s episode of Lost will air on 7TWO and Seven just hours after it has screened in the US.

This week there is no new episode in the US, effectively shortening the gap between Seven and ABC episodes which had been around a week.

“The Candidate” will air in the US on May 4th, which is around midday next Wednesday Australian time. When it airs at 8:30pm on 7TWO it will be only a few hours old. It airs at 11:30pm on Seven.

From there the series has just 2 x 60 and 1 x 120 episodes remaining to its dazzling, mystifying end. Will it ever satisfy us all? And will it be one of television’s most enthralling finales?

Hopefully Seven does the right thing and delivers us all a two hour finale.

  1. Not too totally overwhelm poor Paull who just offering his opinion, but I very much agree with the Lost fans who can’t wait a week to watch the episode. Not just because Lost forums would ruin it but general US entertainment sites preview their recaps with pictures on their main home page that reveal the plot – frustrating to say the least. And while I’d like to avoid those sites, my professional requires me to check these sites daily.

However, that being said – 7TWO I will totally not find my next episode from ‘other’ sources and watch on your channel. I’d be really interested to see if this boosts 7TWO’s ratings. Seven should invest in a little advertising to announce the catch up and get all the fans back for the final complex ride home of the last four weeks!

  2. It’s not even Lost fan sites that need to be avoided. Any US site vaguely related to entertainment can be a spoiler minefield. Plus shows like Letterman, Colbert, ET can have spoilers without warning. Seven is lucky there was a schedule change.

  3. Just realized I badly mispelt ‘people’ as ‘propel’ and ‘more’ as ‘kore’. That’s what happens when you’re In a rush and are typing on an iPhone.

Anyway, as an avid lost fan, I understand that people want to discuss the latest ep, but honestly just go to the lost forum on Yahoo7 or discuss amongst friends, it’s not that hard to stay away from other Lost websites- I’ve managed over the past few years, and frankly i’ve found the advantage of being a few eps behind the US (and having no interuptions) outweighs the disadvantage of not being able to search Lost on the net for a few months every year.

    True story.

  4. @natalie – you can’t if you follow online forums with fan reviews right after they air in the US/UK and you want to contribute to them, where 1-2 hours is a long time, 1-2 weeks is an eternity!

  5. yeah any other show, a 1 week delay is reasonably (especially comedies)

but a show like Lost where half the fun lies on discussing clues/the mysteries on the recent episodes etc. a 1 week + plus delay is fustrating

Lost has really defined social interaction on the internet regarding the mysteries of the tv show. can’t recall a last tv show that done that particular aspect so well

  6. it must be a hard decision for the Aus networks to fasttrack or not. sure it’s easy for us to sit here and coplain that we are x days behind but go look at how the US structure their episode lineage these days. namely the good wife, castle, the mentalist, CSI:miami, desperate Housewives and brothers&sisters. there is an interuption or repeat every second week. it’ll just mean complaints coming through for what seems to Australians to be bizarre scheduling. if ten were FTing the good wife they would have to air only 2 episodes a month like CBS and have filler shows in between.

anyway, moral of the story, there are some times where FTing is needed but other times when it is more appropriate to hold off or delay by a certain amount of time. i think 7 have done it right with Lost.

  7. Seriously, people are complaining about being 1 or 2 weeks behind a show?
Can you really not stay away from spoilers for that long?

If the Aust networks ran the shows closer to US screentimes the seasons here would be interupted anytime the US has a holiday or when they are showing the playoffs for sport like NBA or NFL.

  8. Unless you discuss online, the time between US and Aus screenings being less than a week is fantastic.

I remember Ten did the same thing with House a few years ago on Tuesday nights, airing episodes within hours of the US. Its a rarity, but it does happen.

  9. I can’t believe the number of propel complaining abouth the fact that we were one episode behind the US! seriously it’s only one episode which is a lot kore
generous than previous seasons. And it’s worked out good for us because
it means we don’t have to have an interuption one week.

  10. The last couple of Lost episodes have been best ever – especially the Desmond centric one two weeks ago. Any fans who have stuck with Lost have been absolutely rewarded for their perseverance. Cant wait to own the whole collection on Blu Ray.
I put this show in my top 3 – Sopranos, Buffy, and Lost. These shows have set the bar for everything else. Does anything else come even close?

  11. Your final line makes a lot of sense David. Surely those who gave up at some point during the series would want a peek at how it all ends? Prime time 2 hour finale at 8.30pm on Seven makes total sense! Personally I haven’t missed an episode, have loved the show to death and can’t wait to see the story conclude. I suspect the fans will be the most rewarded by the ending.

  12. Good point Tyler, I didn’t notice the double final airs 2 days earlier in the US, only time will tell but I doubt Seven will do the same, but 2 days is still better than a week so either way I’m happy.

  13. I’m happy that the US had a week break because I knew this would happen. I still think Seven dropped their game. If they can do this now, why couldn’t they do it at the start of the year? It would have been great having this fast level of delivery. The same as FOX8 is able to do with it’s same day/night airing of American Idol.

  14. I stopped watching Lost in season 2, but hopefully this sets a trend for future “fast-tracking” of TV shows.

I thought ABC’s showing of Doctor Who about 2 weeks behind the UK was impressive, but 2 hours is even better.

  15. This is great news,
I was hoping 7 would use the week off in the States to catch-up.

Any word on if they will move forward the finale here, since it airs on a Sunday there. Would be great for 7two to play it on the Monday. Spoilers for this one will be Very hard to avoid online & on the daily entertainment shows…

  16. Thanks for the good news David, and it could be done for some other shows, Doctor Who is an example, it airs Sunday Mornings our time then on ABC here Sunday nights, why have it 2 weeks old when technically it would air 12 hours later here?

But I’m not complaining, hope we get a great ending to Lost after all these years.
