V, Top Gear, 2.5 Men update

A few amendments from Nine as we head into the return of ratings including a V repeat and the Top Gear "Bolivia" special.

Nine is making a switcheroo on V this Sunday night following Underbelly‘s premiere.

It had slated a recap special, “The Arrival” which also aired in the US. But the problem is that recap was for the first four episodes in keeping with the 2 x 4 episode split blocks the US has seen.

Nine has already aired Episode 5 “Welcome to the War” so the recap special is now rather pointless. As a result it will repeat Ep 5 again this Sunday at 10:30pm. That could frustrate the show’s remaining fans, especially given Ep 6 goes to air in the US in the next 24 hours.

The remake has taken itself very seriously and taken too long to have fun swallowing some rodents.

Meanwhile Nine won’t be airing a new Two and A Half Men episode next Monday, no doubt beginning the feel the pinch on the US production schedule.

On Tuesday 13th it will air the Top Gear “Bolivia” special Tuesday instead of S14E7. Nine is almost out of new episodes of the show, but given the figures it may opt to run older eps. The longer special pushes Survivor and 20 to 1 back to 9:10 and 10:10 respectively. A late start for Bert!

Finally, it is dropping Embarrassing Illnesses from late on Sundays, with a movie to take its place.

Blade: Trinity airs 10:30pm April 18th.

  1. As of April 6 Top Gear is already showing repeats, though it wasn’t advertised as such. It’s difficult to follow, as when they *do* show episodes of the new series, they’re shown out of production order.

2.5 Men has been in repeats for the last two or three weeks at least. Mind you, a lot of shows are in repeats for no apparent reason, even Mythbusters has been for a few weeks.

  2. I gree with you Paull i also like the V i just hope if they take it off the main 9-channel they place it on Go.
Just like 7Two does with Lost & 24

  3. V suffers the same way that Supernatural has suffered on 10.

Consider the following (with the proviso that the viewers’ figures from the rating companies)

Episode 5 of V had 565,000 viewers in Australia and 7.03 million in the USA.

The latest population estimates are 22,298,335 for Australia and 309,012,846 for the USA.

565,000 viewers is 2.53% of the Australian population, and 7.03 million is 1.8% of the USA population – so a greater % of the Australian population watched episode 5 than in the USA. The same occurs with Supernatural’s viewing figures as a percentage of population.

Channel 9’s big gun for the 2010 ratings has always been the 3rd season of Underbelly.

I always knew that 9 was going to slide V to a later time slot – that’s what PVR’s were invented for.

  4. Channel 9 are now showing repeats of things SBS did last year. Promoted as the first time ever the boys race. Well they did it last year. Why do they pay heaps for the rights and then not show the latest series. Trust channel nine to stuff up their programming and wreck a great show.

  5. why did nine even bother advertising new eps of men and big bang for the last few days if they are just going to show repeats anyway?. also why have nine decided this now, it’s not like they just found that men is taking a break from filming, they have known for weeks.

  6. This makes things a little easier. I was wondering what two things to tape on my PVR on Tuesday April 20. The TG special was originally scheduled to screen in the first week of Masterchef, but now that they have moved it a week before, I’ll be able to tape them all.

Nine should keep adult movies like Blade: Trinity for screenings on GO! Since Seven does really well with family movies on Saturdays, Nine should do the same.

  7. Like I said in the ratings thread, RIP V. Shame to see it fall so hard and so fast. As far as sci fi shows go it has quite a lot of potential multiple seasons.

  8. Given they’re lagging on Big Bang they should do a double ep of it on a Monday whenever they’re fretting about running out of 2.5 eps.

  9. they should just air a new episode of V at 10:30. with the ratings its getting it is going to end up there anyway may as well keep the good fasttrack. i’ve noticed an increase in the amount of promos for “Australian families of crime” in the last 24 hours. i’d say this is 9 preparing V’s replacement.

  10. How annoying I liked the schedule the way it was because Survivour, Grey’s and Masterchef will all clash because now Top Gear will probably finish at usual time of 8:40 ( instead of 9:10 and Masterchef dosen’t finish to 9. (likely a few minutes after so the extra 10 minutes untll Survivour would been handy.

  11. With V’s ratings slipping to 595k last Sunday it might not be around much longer. ITA it is pointless showing the recap after ep5, anyway it was always designed as a catch up ep because in the US they had 4 eps them a couple of months break.

I wounder if Nine is banking new 2.5 Men eps because it can see the hand writing on the wall and maybe it will not get a renewal for the new season?

The Top Gear Bolivia special is the best of the series, well worth watching but Nine is likely to stretch the 75 minutes out to 2 hours! I won’t be surprised if Nine have endless double show re-runs of TG for the coming months with still no word on the local production and Nine unlikely (or unable) to fast track the new UK series to kick off in July.

  12. I’m glad that Nine aren’t showing a new V this Sunday night at 10:30pm. That would have been the end of it for a lot of people (myself included).
