Glee wins third season

FOX gives an extraordinary vote of confidence to Glee after its second season was approved only as recently as January.

FOX has ordered a third season of Glee from Ryan Murphy Television and 20th Century Fox TV.

The extraordinary vote of confidence comes on the back of its second season being approved only in January.

The show hasn’t even finished its first season. But the buzz from fans, advertisers, critics, awards and pop stars has been too high to ignore.

FOX Entertainment President Kevin Reilly, “Everything about Glee – from the concept to the characters to the marketing – has been innovative and risky, but with [series creator] Ryan Murphy tapping into the zeitgeist, the risk has paid off with this truly remarkable series. Glee has one of the most active, devoted fan bases I’ve ever seen, and we couldn’t be more thrilled to give Gleeks a third season of their favorite show.”

Murphy added, “It’s been a whirlwind year – from shooting the pilot to performing at the White House to the concert tour that began last week – and yet we all feel like we’ve just begun this amazing musical journey. We think our Gleeks worldwide are going to love what we’ll have in store for them in seasons two and three.”

The move will allow story arcs to be created with more forward-thinking as well as saving some money on production.

Last week’s “Olivia” episode won its timeslot in Australia with 1.3m viewers.

  1. That’s very good news. I reckon Glee could eventually go for four seasons, with Season 3 on state championships and Season 4 on national championships.

  2. Not surprising given the Superbowl commission – they were hardly going to pull it four months later!

However, it needs to sort out a few things long term – this “back nine” has so far not been up to the standard of the first 13!

  3. great news, Glee is my fav show ever!
i think ever since it returned from the mid season break its been lacking a real storyline like it had in the first half, so hopefully they can get back to some good multi ep storylines

  4. That is great news. I hope it continues to rate well here to maintain a good time slot on 10. Some of the music coming out of the show is brilliant, in fact one of the Lady Ga Ga songs in a upcoming episode is a lot more meaty and better than the original version.

  5. “The move will allow story arcs to be created with more forward-thinking…”

That has been sorely lacking so far; it’s as if they have a word of the week generator performing their plot development at the moment.

  6. iam worried about this show i really like it but iam worried where the characters are heading, take away the musical numbers the characters are shakey and uneven and due to ryan murphys track record iam worried its going to turn all crazy, maybe this will help with the whole character development renewing it for 2 seasons.
