Hey Hey: May 19

By David Knox on May 18, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 25

Hey Hey it’s Saturday this week will step up it’s guest line-up with international guests this week as both Usher and Craig David appear live on the show.

Usher will give his first performance on Australian television and sing his latest track, OMG, which currently holds the No 1 position on the ARIA Top 50 singles chart.

He will also perform his hit Yeah (creative points for song titles there…).

Craig David will open the show with his new single, One More Lie (Standing In The Shadows).

Also performing will be James Morrison with Idea of North, the a capella group uncovered on last year’s reunion shows.

World snooker champion Neil Robertson will also appear plus regular segments Red Faces, Wot Cheezes Me Orf, Private Parts, Magic Word and Plucka Duck.

The network is billing this episode as its “biggest show yet.” The show has taken a bit of criticism for its soft numbers and lack of big names, so it will be interesting to see how this one performs.

How sad with all of our great Aussie acts we have to import the boring paid Usher and Craig David as on last weeks Hey Hey.
I thought the idea of having Hey Hey it’s Saturday on a Wednesday that would give Aussie performers a chance of getting work in the middle of the week!!!
Surely we have outgrown having both ‘so-called’ famous acts on one night is proof that Australia still feels like a pathetic teenager in the ‘big world’ of show business.
Shame pandering to only the youngies whilst we ‘ancients’ who have followed Hey Hey for many years have to use the fast forward button on IQ and watch the 2 hour show in about 20 minutes!!! Yay Yay for IQ!!

David. They admitted their mistake on the show. Mistakes happen. I find it funny, that so many people can sit around nit picking a simple innocent mistake, a show many say they can;t stand to watch. What was the worse thing that came out of the mistake? Some contestant got a extra $500. O noes!!!

I feel that your skit on Jessica Watson (“Baby”) was a “put down” of Jessica and should not have been shown.

She is a hero, and should not be a subject of this type of “humour”??
Let her enjoy her acheivements, without all this crap.

She has become one of Australia’s greatest icon’s and should not be put down.

Fun is fun, but this is NOT funny.

Leave Jessica alone, she is a champion.

    Bill.

Totally the wrong acts for the retro demographic.

    Dig your grave Hey Hey

@ Bass – I confess, I’m a retro/living in the 80s chick (probably explains why I like this show so much!) and have no idea what or who this Usher is … sorry.

We all know that HHIS has it knockers, hello Mr Ford, but having the likes of “Usher” on the show is what this show is all about. Yes Daryl tends to waffle way too much but its a show where the local & overseas artists can go on to promote their material and hopefully after tomorrow night I’ll know alot more about ‘Usher’.

I can’t wait until David Strassman tours again, even the noise maker from the Police Academy films. And who knows, maybe a new D-Generation could appear ala mid 1980s on HHISN.

Maybe 9 meant “surprise find” as in they were surprised to find them on the show. LOL

Usher is a bit of a coup for Hey Hey. I may even tune in.

This should really be a home run type show for Hey Hey, great international guests with huge names, can’t go wrong here, now Daryl for gods sakes please don’t waffle on :)

Thank you, I look forward to my Wednesday ritual of flicking between Hey Hey and MasterChef

How can people not know Usher??, multi time grammy award winner

That will certainly boost up the figures by at least 200k. I like Usher but still am not going to tune in to see Hey Hey, its boring!

  14. David Knox May 18, 2010 at 4:29 pm -

Rudi… Nine says. Today’s press release states they were a “surprise find” on last year’s reunion.

David – who says ‘Idea of North’ were “uncovered on last year’s reunion shows”? They’ve been together since the mid 1990s. They’ve released 6 albums and a DVD. Seriously.

  16. Andrew B May 18, 2010 at 3:52 pm -

Yet another Channel Nine special event…

  17. Bazza May 18, 2010 at 2:39 pm -

No really… Who the heck is Usher?

  18. Richard W May 18, 2010 at 1:43 pm -

Hope there’s no black face routines on Red Faces this week.

  19. JJ May 18, 2010 at 1:26 pm -

Can I just ask… who the hell is Usher???

  20. Benjamin May 18, 2010 at 1:14 pm -

Do they still mine the songs on Hey Hey like in the old days?

  21. John Jackson May 18, 2010 at 12:05 pm -

Oh and two songs as well from Usher! Hmm.. that and performances by others I guess Hey Hey allows more as rove would have been lucky to fit one performance in.

  22. TT May 18, 2010 at 12:00 pm -

Looking forward to it! 2 of my favourite R&B singers (Usher & Craig David) on one show :)

  23. John Jackson May 18, 2010 at 11:58 am -

Love this. I just think if Hey Hey wasn’t with us now.. there’d be no place for those like Usher and so on to be. So it is good timing Hey Hey came back this year after rove ended.

  24. MillerT1 May 18, 2010 at 11:49 am -

That sounds like a very good show and definitely the biggest show this year. Idea of North and James Morrison are brilliant. Usher will certainly attract a young crowd.

Don’t forget that Ossie is back this week after a break from last week’s show.

  25. RichoTB May 18, 2010 at 11:34 am -

If the show keeps this up, it will actually become relevant
