Moffat teases Who finale

Steven Moffat has opened up on the season finale of Doctor Who, "The Big Bang." Not much in the way of spoilers here....

Writer Steven Moffat has opened up on the season finale of Doctor Who, “The Big Bang” which airs in the UK on June 26th.

“The series arc will come to a head in the cliffhanger ending of the twelfth episode ‘The Pandorica Opens’,” he said.

That airs the week before, June 19th, as part of a two-part tale.

“It’s not just the cliffhanger for Episode 12,” he said, “it’s like the cliffhanger for every single episode up until that point. This is where the wheels come off. Everything the Doctor is running from lands on his head today.”

Moffat also revealed that he believes his seven-year-old self would be “crying my eyes out by the end of 12. And then again at the end of 13 – but a different kind of crying”.

  1. I’ve been pretty disappointed with most of the 2010 series, but Episode 12 is one of the best so far.

In my view its still below the standard of the Russel T Davies era but that’s probably a deliberate change in philosophy – It now seems to be aimed at a 7-10 year old demographic rather than early teenagers as originally envisaged by its creators.

  2. I have almost given up on it. I just think Russell T Davies made it into a drama with lots of emotion, which I liked and now they have taken all of that out and you are just left with the basic story. So far none of stories have been scary or interesting for me and I don’t think either of the actors are particularly good

  3. Awesome stuff!
Btw has anyone checked out the Dr. Who Animated show? Yes, it’s simplified for kids but it’s great to hear Dr. Tennant’s lines.

  4. Having grown up a fan of the original Doctor Who series I was worried if the revival of the show could live up to the original. Over the last few years it’s not only matched the original, but has far exceeded it in most respects. The new series just keeps on raising the bar in both narrative and production standards. Brilliant!!

  5. This season is 13 episodes + a Xmas Special …

The final two episodes are sure to be brilliant, breathtaking, fantastic, phenomenal … and all that stuff!

@Ben … must be a reason why you dismiss the best and longest running Sci-Fi show on TV as a waste of time … obviously many of us do not agree! Sorry that you don’t appreciate it …

  6. Mydoona, Doctor Who hasn’t had 20+ episodes per season since the early 80’s!

Well I hope the Moff is true to his words, because whilst Series 5 has been pretty good, not one episode to date has hit the brilliance of his Empty Child, Girl in the Fireplace and Blink episodes! I’m still waiting for a jaw dropping moment this series.

  7. The new series of the Doctor (1-5) are all 13 episodes or thereabouts.

    S1: 13
    S2: Xmas + 13
    S3: Xmas + 13
    S4: Xmas + 13 + 5 specials.
    S5: 13
