Reserve your Twitter feed

If you have a new TV show in the pipeline, you better go and get a Twitter account or risk finding out the name is unavailable.

Memo to Australian TV shows: If you haven’t already done so, go and get yourself a Twitter feed.

And if you have a new show in the pipeline, you better go and get it or risk finding out it is unavailable.

In the US NBC has gone and reserved Twitter accounts for several of its Pilots. In fact one website The TVAddict has even deduced which shows are going to get picked up based on some landing Twitter accounts and others not.

It notes reserves for @NBCTheCape, @NBCKindreds, @NBCRockford, @NBCBeachLane, @NBCChase and @NBCTheStrip.

In Australia Twitter accounts exist for shows including The 7PM Project, Q & A, The Circle, Sunrise, Hey Hey It’s Saturday, MasterChef Australia and more. They are great ways to engage with the public as well as drawing attention to upcoming guests and episodes.

But with the development of any new show comes a desirable URL and now a Twitter feed.

Seven was caught out when it hadn’t registered packedtotherafters.com.au which was set up as a fansite. The network eventually applied enough influence on the owner to hand over the domain.

The future is clear…. every new show needs its own website and Twitter feed.

  1. The same is true for aspiring actors. I advised a young friend of mine to register a domain name under her name so that if she ever made it as an actress, she’d own the name and no one else could set up a website on it. She became internationally known faster than anyone expected and she sent me a message to let me know that she should have taken my advice because someone had registered a domain name under her name and was now asking for a ridiculous amount of money to sell it to her (even though they’d paid just $20 for the domain).

  2. Bass @ why pick up the format !! TV Networks simply take your idea, adjust it a little and then make their own version and not have to pay you a cent !!! There are thousand upon thousand examples !!!
