Returning: Doc Martin

By David Knox on May 30, 2010 / Filed Under Programming 7

One of the ABC’s highest rating shows, Doc Martin, returns with new episodes next month.

Viewers will finally get to see how the series fares after Martin’s decision to call off the wedding to Louisa.

After the heart-wrenching decision to call off his marriage to local headmistress Louisa (Caroline Catz), Dr Martin Ellingham (Martin Clunes) finds life in the beautiful Cornish village of Portwenn ever more infuriating.

His patients are increasingly annoying and the local chemist Mrs Tishell (Selina Cadell) keeps up her relentless amorous pursuit. Martin realises if he is ever to escape and take on more prestigious medical work, he must conquer his irrational blood phobia that ended his surgical career.

His Aunt Joan (Stephanie Cole) has a therapist friend, Barbara (Georgie Glen) whom she suggests could help, but it turns out she is a specialist in a very different field.

Meanwhile, a girlfriend from his medical school days, Edith (Lia Williams) comes back into Martin’s life and causes some jealousy between him and Louisa, who also returns from London to the village with a huge surprise of her own.

It returns 7:30pm Saturday June 12 on ABC1.

I only just started watching DM when they put DM: On the edge on iView, haven’t seen 3×05 or 3×06 yet. So thanks for ruining the engagement surprise for me :)

Good news about more eps coming though, have to wait at least another year for season 5 though since they haven’t even filmed it yet.

This series was good, but not the best of the lot, it had it’s moments, but ended wonderfully. Hopefully they continue the series, but if they don’t it’s a nice way to finish the series.

    This is a great show.
A shame, though, that ABC has left it so long to air series 4.
It’s been available on DVD in UK for several months.
