Seven to launch The X Factor

The Seven Network has confirmed The X Factor for 2010 with Kyle Sandilands, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Sebastian and Ronan Keating as judges and mentors.

The Seven Network has confirmed The X Factor for 2010 with Kyle Sandilands, Natalie Imbruglia, Guy Sebastian and Ronan Keating as judges and mentors.

There is no age limit on contestants with both solo and groups divided into four categories: Boys under 25, Girls under 25, the over 25s and Groups.

The winner will land a contract with Sony Music Australia.

The series is to be produced by FremantleMedia Australia who produced Australia’s first version of the Simon Cowell-created format for TEN in 2005, hosted by Daniel MacPherson.

Seven had previously denied it was set to air the show and commented that the rights being shopped around were too high. But with the success of Australia’s Got Talent and absence of Australian Idol it has locked onto the new show.

Seven CEO David Leckie said today: “It’s a bloody great show. What an incredible line-up of judges.”

FremantleMedia Australia’s CEO Ian Hogg added: “We are delighted to be working with Seven and Sony Music on this phenomenally successful format. Our creative team are determined to make this show something very special, a program that will resonate deeply with Australian audiences. Sony will launch the career of our series winner so you can be sure that X Factor contestants will soon dominate the airwaves.”

A host is yet to be announced.

  1. so it is happening!! very impressive judging panel most people should know who all of them are. i remember when idol launched everyone under the age of 40 didn’t know who those people were. i think 7 are onto a winner

7 are fast becoming the reality show leaders. judging from the amount of on air contestant calls in the last few days M<R2 and beauty and the geek will be in production soon. and that will be on top of X factor, DWTS and Australia's got talent.

good to see fremantle getting another reality show to produce, their palette was losing some ground now that idol is gone, biggest loser and junior masterchef went to shine, and it looks like only 1 season of farmer want;s a wife this year and the apprentice isn't locked in.

  2. can’t wait, love this franchise. it would be a travesty if Australia missed out what is turning out to be a television worldwide phenomenon just because it didn’t work on another network after they did a half arsesed job 5 years ago. i really like that judging panel, shame they couldn’t get perter andre or darryn hayse.

why all the hate? what would someone want a show to fail? i say good on 7 in taking what i assume is an expensive risk and don’t worry about negative feedback, people have never said anything nice about any shows announcement even the ones that turn out to be huge hits.

anyone that doesn’t know much about it, do some research and see how big it has been in countries that have recently picked it up and how many countries are creating versions for 2010/11. it’s the show of the decade i tell you.

  3. x-factor uk is working, because they have a greater talent pool. we don’t and this will fail. don’t try and compare the 2

i love how leckie said this is a bloody great show. i wonder if that’s the samething he said about cougar town

  4. Pretty ironic that, despite Kyle being dropped from idol judging last year, this year he retains his judging role while idol gets dropped (rested as ten are calling it).

  5. Wow.. sounds great. Although I wonder how it will compare to the original series on 10?

Furthermore, Daniel McPherson is now with 7! Maybe he can host again?

  6. Whats with the hate comments…. It’s been 5 years since this was trialled, on another Network with Kate Cebrano and Mark Holden.
That is one massive judging panel, I for one cant wait to see them mentor new coming talent.

  7. The judges sound really good….except Kyle. The other 3 are all performers, so if they want someone with a different background, perhaps they should try to get someone who really is a part of the music industry. When he was on Idol all he ever really commented on was what the contestants wore. The concept isnt too bad, so hopefully it will be better than the first version…if any Australian network was going to attempt to bring it back, this was the time to do so, after the success of AGT and in the absence of Idol, but who knows what will happen??

  8. I wonder if this version of the X Factor will be as lop-sided as the last Australian version.

I remember how some contestants were given over-the-top support from the show including back-up dancers and major publicity (such as “Random”) while others were left to fend for themselves with little or nothing (such as “Kaya”)

Hopefully this version will have a more even playing field. But I predict the show will fail, as Kyle sucks 🙁

  9. It was horrible the first time round, so im wary of how this new version will turn out. But the judging panel is quite strong, Ronan Keating is quite a get for Seven.

  10. This happened really fast, i was surprised after reading here last week that seven said they wernt intrested!
just saw the ad on tv, and straight away ran to my laptop to read this article that i knew whould be here! david’s always on the ball!
so should be intresting to see what they do with it, and who will host. judges seem to be a good mix, guess seven wanna make kyle work after saving his television career! will this air this year?
with dwts on sunday and packed to the rafters on tuesday, im guessing this will either be a wed or mon program, depending on where city homicide goes. thurs will have beauty and the geek, which i also saw a casting call commerical for tonight

  11. Blah. Sounds very rushed too, said no, all of a sudden yes, auditions beginning this month, and to air this year. Very rushed. Not interested. Haven’t watched a single minute of AGT either since they signed Brian and Kyle.
