Sub Talk out for Start. Oops

  2. Tim May 27, 2010 at 9:58 pm -

@damo You know TV Rights Discussions can’t talk until Novemeber because the Government are holding back the release of the new anti-siphoning laws.
They will certainly show games live again, but only if the ratings can justify it. It’s not really that complex.
How many would really switch on in Melbourne for a Live game between Richmond and North Melbourne?

  3. vicki b May 23, 2010 at 11:49 pm -

Another fan of Dirty Jobs here. I also really like The John Stewart Show, and The Colbert Report. Thanks ABC2.

  4. ryan May 23, 2010 at 7:55 pm -

the footy isnt working out too well for ten, they keep getting crap games on saturdays so i dont bother watching

  5. damo May 23, 2010 at 11:51 am -

showing the friday night game live on 7 was just to butter the afl up before they put their final bid in for the next rights to the afl. they won’t be showing any fnf games live ever again and that’s a certainty. 7 have a track record on this

  6. ryan May 22, 2010 at 5:58 pm -

i wish 7 would show the footy live in perth!!

  7. Jarred May 22, 2010 at 3:30 pm -

Well it is of no surprise that the AFL match last night, as a result of being shown LIVE, attracted big numbers. This should happen every week in Perth, Adelaide and Melbourne. Of cause, others reasons for large numbers include the expected blockbuster style of a match, but a live broadcast will always attract more viewers than a delayed broadcast.

Interesting about the what Johnson said with the 700,000 target to cover adverstising costs. So Seven wouldn’t be happy with 663,000 then.

    @ Kuttsywood and Ryano,
Completely agree about moving Better Homes and Gardens to Thursdays in order to show live AFL every week, this should’ve always been the case.

  8. Saz May 22, 2010 at 1:14 pm -

@ shaun – agree!!! (9:30pm is too late when you have a double episode. By the time it starts, the double finished at 11:45pm. I couldn’t stay up that long. If they are going to have it at 9:30pm, leave it at one episode or move it to 8:30pm.

  9. Kuttsywood May 22, 2010 at 12:01 pm -

There are 663,000 reasons why 7 should be screening live AFL into Melbourne on Friday nights.

Last night proved every single one of those reasons plausable.

Just move Better Homes to 7:30 Thursdays (much better than reruns of Dibley), and screen AFL games live.

  10. Johnson May 22, 2010 at 11:26 am -

Huge audience as expected for the AFL match in Melbourne, just short of 700,000 needed by Seven in order for advertising to cover the cost of the live broadcast (Seven Melbourne general manager Lewis Martin revealed this to 3AW on Monday). The footy almost single-handedly gave Seven to a big win. Better Homes & Gardens did well too, outrating MasterChef in four-city total (without Melbourne).

  11. koverstreet May 22, 2010 at 10:38 am -

@ tassie devil – actually Nine won 2000 when the olympics were taken out. When Nine lost in 2007 it was the first time since 1978 they officially lost the year.

  12. tasmanian devil May 22, 2010 at 10:09 am -

@ Ryano “First commercial network to create an Australian version of ‘Dirty Jobs’ wins!”

Not too sure about that. 9 did an Australian version of Dirty Jobs and they lost to 7 for the first year since the 2000 Olympics. It only lasted a few weeks.

  13. ryan May 22, 2010 at 12:17 am -

@ goonies: you went over the mark a bit there, i said 2 eps a week! not 5! also if you look @ how many people watch tv @ 6pm sunday you would realise its a dam lot of people, how about calm down and chillax yourself

  14. Ryano May 21, 2010 at 11:06 pm -

First commercial network to create an Australian version of ‘Dirty Jobs’ wins!

Seven should move Better Homes and Gardens to Thursday (7.30/8.30?) in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide to clear the way for AFL at 7.30pm Friday, live every week in Melbourne.
This will help its Thursday night share big time, and Friday share may also improve if games are live in Victoria.

  15. Denys May 21, 2010 at 9:25 pm -

I just love Dirty Jobs with Mike Rowe (ABC2). Mike brings not only his good looks and charm to the programme but a sense of humour that at times has me in stitches. I also like the fact that he speaks to everyday people who are just gettin’ on with their lives. They just happen to have dirtier jobs than the rest of us common folk.

  16. LostForever May 21, 2010 at 8:16 pm -

What the heck is Benidorm? this show won’t last.

  17. meiji-era May 21, 2010 at 7:51 pm -

Fantastic Figures for Dirty Jobs on ABC2!

Forget A Stupid Affair and To-Pay Tonight,This Show is worth Watching!

  18. Jacqui May 21, 2010 at 7:22 pm -

First and Last post on here………………..obviously the TV Tonight comments are just childish rants with no much value…..

  19. Jarred May 21, 2010 at 7:13 pm -

    @ TDJ,
How can you say The footy show’s aren’t rating high and they should get axed when the show beat all of it’s competitors in it’s timeslot. For it to be the 14th highest rating show for a 9.30pm start time is actually very good. Nine would be happy with those figures.

  20. Goonies May 21, 2010 at 6:28 pm -

Yes TDJ everyone who watches Masterchef is a complete and utter moron with no idea of how a television show is put together.

All of you screaming Masterchef is rigged could you please just chillax – I don’t care and neither do over a million other people – I find it less rigged because they are not letting the public or the contestants vote.

If all of you haters can’t figure out that first and foremost it is about entertainment and making money for the network – not about broadcasting the most ethically acceptable program possible then you will be complaining about the same thing for a long time.

@ ryan – terrible idea re Modern Family, what u trying to do make it the new 2.5 dorks? Who watches tv at 6pm on Sunday anyway?

  21. tasmanian devil May 21, 2010 at 6:07 pm -

@ JB – Benidorm was actually two half hour episodes (does anyone know if they were shown in full or edited down?) and I dare say that more people would rather watch it than Criminal Minds (just a guess). It should be on the ABC though instead of 7, as should all BBC shows.

  22. TDJ May 21, 2010 at 4:47 pm -

When are these idiotic footy shows going to be axed. Shows are taken off air with higher ratings, but this crap stays on regardless. It is ridiculous. Just like these crap reality shows. Are this many people actually watching this Master Chef rubbish. Do people like being conned by these rigged programs. It would be more exciting watching grass grow or paint dry. It is no wonder so many great shows disappear when people settle for crap all of the time.

  23. JB May 21, 2010 at 3:04 pm -

Channel Seven you suck. What is the point of putting Benidorm on for just AFL cities but Criminal Minds for other cities?? Both are hour long shows that start at 8.30. Just what’s the point. I’d rather watch Criminal Minds than that British crap, and i’d rather watch Matty Johns Show than 10 years old Vicar of Dibley episodes.

  24. ryan May 21, 2010 at 2:49 pm -

good to see svu up for ten, it should be getting 1.1m though. Glee is doing big things for ten and i gotta give them credit for the promo’s. Ten should have 2 eps of modern family a week and have one @ 6pm sunday.

  25. Jacqui May 21, 2010 at 12:58 pm -

Just looking at the figures for The Footy Show Nine & The Matty Johns Show. The Footy Show Nine must include AFL for figures from Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth. On that observation if you compare just Sydney and Brisbane….the Matty Johns Show is rating very well in Footy Show terms!

  26. Boogie Howser May 21, 2010 at 11:56 am -

I quite liked Benidorm once it got going. A pity Seven is throwing it away as filler in AFL cities. I’m sure I heard that at one point they were considering a local version, but I think that was pre-GFC. Or am I making it up?

  27. shaun May 21, 2010 at 11:45 am -

Amazing Race is still the best reality show, don’t understand the rating. It always nailed 1 million people. Perhaps 9:30 is not the best time for a show like this.

  28. angelsgal May 21, 2010 at 11:44 am -

Go Glee. great figures and another awsome episode. Shame its post slot is getting wasted. the tone doesnt fit. ten should try swapping SVU and House, both shows would benefit as SVU is more of a demo fit to TGW and House would definatley benefit frim the post Glee spot. Masterchef domintating as usual and 7pm up to its best thursday figure ever. Between Nine and GO the network is dominating thursdays. 7 are in trouble on thursday, total people and demo wise.

  29. Dave May 21, 2010 at 11:42 am -

love TEN’s Thursday night I have two gils a 10year old and a 14year old its great to sit down together and watch MC and Glee thanks TEN

  30. Kerri May 21, 2010 at 11:33 am -

Criminal minds performed woefully last night. Bring back How I Met Your Mother!

  31. rickster May 21, 2010 at 10:24 am -

How good is Glee going! Yipeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  32. koverstreet May 21, 2010 at 10:12 am -

Good numbers there for Sea Patrol and well deserved this season is excellent so far. I thought with the loss of Spider and Buffer it maybe wouldn’t be as good but it’s actually getting better and the new cast members are great.

  33. Harry May 21, 2010 at 12:07 am -

I dont think the ratings that Hey Hey is pulling in are what Nine were hoping they would be. I was expecting Hey Hey to rate through the roof – all the hype and excitement, its just fallen flat.

  34. Dave May 20, 2010 at 8:55 pm -

@ Jason, am confused as to why you think that Ten needs to fix the 5-7 timeslot and more importantly move the news from 5pm-6pm where it dominates the timeslot day in, day out to 6pm against two other programs that are the same.

Yeah Ten needs to fix 6pm-7pm, but definately not with news. Unless it was in the style of the 7pm project.

  35. john May 20, 2010 at 8:27 pm -

Hey Hey is mindless fun & it should stay.I stated earlier i would pop in & watch occassionally but have found myself tuning in every week.We need more of it,instead of all this morbib cop crap.

  36. Maev May 20, 2010 at 7:06 pm -

Hey Hey out rated ‘The Pacific’…..
@ koverstreet….shame you turned off Lie to Me…..great episode!

  37. David Knox May 20, 2010 at 6:27 pm -

No figures for I Survived a Japanese Game Show, I ROCK sorry. Must admit I am not across when Full House was on…. too many repeats for me to monitor!

  38. Jake May 20, 2010 at 5:49 pm -

Are there any figures for I Survived A Japanese Game Show on 7Two from last night, or is it outside the top 100?

  39. Tasha May 20, 2010 at 3:37 pm -

David, has Seven pulled Full House from its 7TWO schedule? It hasn’t been on all week, and has only been on twice a week for the past few weeks. I wish they’d bring it back *sigh*

  40. Seymor Smith May 20, 2010 at 2:47 pm -

Have any figures been published for Irock or indeed for the Daily show or Colbert? It would be interesting to see how these shows are doing. Dirty Jobs seems to be going okay on ABC2. Poor old SBS only one show in the top thirty so far this week.

  41. Trent May 20, 2010 at 2:10 pm -

I’m really glad that Seven’s factuals are now failing. I’ve had enough of that genre.

  42. Anthony May 20, 2010 at 2:03 pm -

Can the Hey Hey haters just shut up already you’re all becoming even more annoying than the show.

  43. Shannon Butler May 20, 2010 at 1:04 pm -

I find It really funny that people can seem to criticise shows that they only watch a ” bit of ” or quickly ” flick over to ” .

  44. Joey May 20, 2010 at 1:04 pm -

Why all the hate for Hey Hey? It’s good seeing variety on TV again. I think they should move it to Saturday though.

BTW – some segments on Ellen make me go WTF

  45. jason May 20, 2010 at 12:48 pm -

Seriously..TEN should either remove or move Neighbours from 6:30 and replace the 6 – 7 pm slot with news
Repeats of the Simpsons are beating Neighbours and its on earlier
TEN would be winning every night if they only fixed the 5 – 7pm slot (leave on 7pm project its a great show!)

  46. koverstreet May 20, 2010 at 12:47 pm -

@ nick – i know what you mean Lie To Me is one of my favorites and I was taping it while watching Hey Hey intending to watch it later. But switched over in the ads and saw it was some war related rubbish and pushed the stop record button straight away. Will definately be back next week though.

  47. J May 20, 2010 at 12:43 pm -

The pacific ep 9 was great last night, very moving on what those guys had to go through, especially the okinawan civialian aspect. Too bad it hasnt been rating well lately, I really think the initial few episodes threw people off from a much better second half of the season.

  48. Chris May 20, 2010 at 12:12 pm -

@ Craig – They’re winning basically every demo, apart from 50+ where they obviously only get half the audience of Seven or Nine.

  49. Nick May 20, 2010 at 11:38 am -

Lie to Me was an awful episode last night (usual US war propaganda) and still outrated the Pacific. It’s a great show, but I see Lie to Me going down the same predictable path as House. I just think the Pacific is too ‘Stars and Stripes’ in it’s approach, and is laboured and dragging in storyline and action. As for Hey Hey, did it improve it’s Vic figures from last week? Those crazy mexicans!

  50. rickster May 20, 2010 at 11:19 am -

Move ‘Hey Hey’ to Saturday, it makes sense.

  51. chk chk May 20, 2010 at 11:10 am -

Hi David, how much did Chuck get last night?? It was a healthy increase for WDYTYA from last week, good ep last night for Susan Sarandon.

The Pacific has dropped significantly from it’s premier ep number, not surprising, I just lost interest on this series after ep 3, not quite in the same league with Band of Brothers.

  52. bigkev May 20, 2010 at 10:57 am -

Do the ‘Hey hey’ bashers like to keep their mouths shut now….. Dont watch the show, thats fine….. but i dont see an axe anytime soon, especially if Seven keeps performing like this.

  53. Kerri May 20, 2010 at 10:54 am -

Hey Hey is an embarrassment to Australian tv now!!!

  54. Jasey Jay May 20, 2010 at 10:44 am -

Did anyone see that section on Hey Hey called ‘What cheeses me off?’ (sorry for correct spelling here). Daryl stuffed up the intro, so he started from the beginning and did the whole thing again.

    Pointless.

No wonder this show always runs over time. This show is no longer relevant.
