re: 326,000 watching Big Bang repeat and is that a record – no. Australian Grand Prix on One had 367,000 (and note that is only the One audience, not Ten as well), so that’s at least one secondary channel show that had a bigger audience. Don’t know if that’s the all-time record though, but whatever the record is, it’s bigger than 326,000.

Except, Natalie- “just” isn’t the same as “very”

  3. ryan May 30, 2010 at 7:58 pm -

I think seven has an unfair advantage to 10 in the afl rights, 7 seems to have all the big games on friday or sundays, most games on sats are not big

  4. Jarred May 30, 2010 at 1:27 pm -

What a night for ABC coming in at 2nd! Knocking both Nine and Ten off and not far from Seven either. 5 of the top 10 shows, good on em. Horrible night for Ten though, not even a fifth of the daily share even with the AFL matches, Eeek!

  5. natalie May 30, 2010 at 11:12 am -

——I then decided to put it through a spelling and grammar check and guess what, it was OK. Lol——-

Um, to clears things a little and if you want to be very pedantic. The use of the word ‘just’ is incorrect. Something can’t be “just’ crap. It is either crap or it isn’t crap. You can’t be “very” pregnant, you are either pregnant or you are not. It is badly written, if you really want to be anal.

Interesting result for NRL v AFL on Friday night. Would be great to see a comparison of the two codes on a weekly YTD basis including the various timeslots, free v pay ratings, timeshift numbers etc.

On that note – is there a decent guide to the methodology currently employed to determine these numbers? And has work been done to compare the ratings numbers (generated from samples) to random surveys of the proverbial ‘man on the street’ about what she/he actually watched? Be interesting too see the variances

  8. mak May 29, 2010 at 7:04 pm -

    @damonisgod,

at first I agreed with your comments that the “Your comparison to a novel is just crap” post was “atrociously written English” I then decided to put it through a spelling and grammar check and guess what, it was OK. Lol.
You have to be kidding, right. Is that all you can respond with?

You missed the whole point. I got it but I guess you didn’t.

  9. Jerome May 29, 2010 at 6:35 pm -

Nothing 7 does will make TAR rate well, last year it was tried at 7:30, failed. 8:30, failed, had some luck at 9:30 but hardly anything to celebrate. for a show that goes from 10:00-midnight 550k is not too bad. but at the end of the day it’s pretty much late night detritus.
The probalem is show’s format and the difference between US and Aus viewers that is letting it down. 16 seasons and barely anyhting has changed. an Australian reality show would never get away with that. viewers get fidgety if 2 consecutive seasons of a reality show go by without a host change/judge change/rules change/’couples’ season/ celebrity season/ ect. American tv seems to be able to get lots of formats to stretch a long way unlike Australia who seem to get bored easily.

  10. messy May 29, 2010 at 5:56 pm -

@damonisgod…..wot u meen??? It maiks purfit cents.

  11. RichoTB May 29, 2010 at 5:35 pm -

I reckon Seven should rest TAR and bring it back in a few years like Nine did with Survivor. Obviously Australia is tired of the show and its gotten repetitive. Probably a good thing CBS axed the 2 cycles of the show every season, and have now drawn it back to one.

Its just not good business sense to keep it there. They’ve tried every timeslot, Tuesdays last year, and across Thursdays from 7.30, 8.30 and 9.30 the past few years. Bottom line is audiences aren’t watching, and a paltry 530k in a primetime slot is simply not good. I understand the fans feel the show hasn’t been treated well but they’re in the minority. The show will probably get aired til its finale though as it only has a few weeks to go. I’m thinking they’ll bring back HIMYM to fill the void

  12. darryn May 29, 2010 at 5:21 pm -

David, did a certain channel 10 reporter wear a white shirt with channel 10 on one side and god forbid weetbix written on the other in tonights news? And if I am correct in what I saw, what are your thoughts on that?

  13. Tasmanian de√il May 29, 2010 at 5:14 pm -

@ Goonies – I don’t know what rock you’ve been living under, but unseen episodes of Big Bang Theory have never been shown on GO. If you don’t fancy episodes you’ve seen 3 times already, then I would suggest Voyage To The Planets.

  14. damonisgod May 29, 2010 at 4:41 pm -

“Your comparison to a novel is just crap.”

Wow, nice grammar there partner. LOL, ironic that your “argument” regarding a novel is illuminated by atrociously written English.

  15. Craig May 29, 2010 at 4:04 pm -

Amazing for how a long time people were wondering why Seven wouldn’t air TAR and now some are calling for them to remove it from our screens LOL

  16. Saz May 29, 2010 at 3:15 pm -

I love the Amazing Race but I have no choice but to record it – finishing at 11:45pm is too late, that is why the figures are not great. Why not move it to 8:30pm? Glee and Sea Patrol are going to beat whatever 7 shows anyway. Watching a repeat of Criminal Minds from about 2 years ago – what is the point? The thing that really annoyed me is The Amazing Race didn’t start until 9:45pm in Sydney – and of course 7 thought it was very important to repeat a performace from thier talent show for 5 minutes. Not good enough 7!

  17. chris May 29, 2010 at 2:30 pm -

Dave, while I don’t have particularly stong feelings on Lost either way, you are misrepreenting what the writer (Damon Lindelof) said.
His exact quote was ” So, you’re feeling of saying goodbye to the show – of the show not being around anymore – was actually literally perfectly paralleling what we were showing you on the screen.
If you had an experience anything like that, then it was mission accomplished.
If you didn’t, we blew it and I apologize.”

  18. Ryano May 29, 2010 at 2:10 pm -

    Dear Channel 7,
    Nobody likes delayed sport.
Move Better Homes & Gardens to Thursday.

  19. Jarred May 29, 2010 at 1:50 pm -

Everytime there is talk of a show doing poorly, it comes back the next week and does a lot better. I’m referring to BH&G when I say this because everyone (including me) was suggesting for it to move to Thursdays, then it gets almost 1.1 mil last night, what’s up with that?? Was is that Chelsea Garden Show special?

  20. messy May 29, 2010 at 1:30 pm -

@dave……LOL, LOL, LOL. You crack me up.
I watched every episode yet I am not crying because all the answers weren’t there at the end. Its a mystery so let everyone visualise their own interpretation.
Your comparison to a novel is just crap. It was never meant to answer Everything. Just get over it.

  21. RichoTB May 29, 2010 at 12:36 pm -

I enjoyed the Lost finale, but like the show itself, it was bound to be polarising. It comes back to whether you’re a man of science or a man of faith…if you watched for the characters and their journeys, you were probably satisfied. If you really wanted to know who build the 4-toed statue and what Walt’s powers meant, you were left wanting more. For me ,not knowing the answers to the ‘mysteries’ the show brought up doesn’t wreck it in the least, I still found the finale a great shout out to the best moments of the series, and a good reminder of why we watched the show in the first place: the characters and their stories. But neither side of the fence is the ‘idiot camp’, its simply television.

  22. 2.5 men May 29, 2010 at 12:15 pm -

one last word on Lost: the show was never about spoon feeding the viewers the answers, but more like finding your own conclusions (on the internet with others)

but still, who were the guys on the outrigger shooting at the losties? lol

  23. Trev May 29, 2010 at 11:15 am -

@ CK. MC starts on time and a considerable proportion of who watches it change channels before 7:30pm, so as not to miss the start, thereby artificially boosting the Projects figures. Wait until MC ends you will see precisely what I am on about when the ratings return to where they were before MC.

  24. lisaeee May 29, 2010 at 9:58 am -

Why are people crying so much on MasterChef. It is really nauseating. They act like their lives depend on it or something. They come of like idiots. A real turn off and alot worse than the original group.

Enough of the damn crying please. I mean really, it’s a show about cooking, the way the judges act, like these chefs are “superstars”. Yer right, George Clooney is a superstar actor, David Fincher is a superstar director, Annie Leibovitz is a superstar photographer etc etc these “chefs” are not superstars, they are people cook food and that’s about it. Ya know, just above the people in the fish and chip shop.

  25. dave May 29, 2010 at 9:49 am -

“Anyone who’s disappointed is a shallow fanboy/gal or an idiot”

Oh gimme a break, lol. The exact opposite in fact, the “idiots”, as you call them are not the simpletons that can be emotionally manipulated by a bunch of actors crying about the “afterlife” and be satisfied by that alone, wouldn’t you say??

Simple question for you..please advise me how the ‘epilogue’ about their death – it was Not an ending or finale but an epilogue – relates in any way to the previous 5 seasons, enquiring minds want to know, i’m all ears???

Are you the type of person that reads a 600 page crime novel, where they wait until the last page to reveal the killer and the final line is “I know who the killer is, it was”. Are you the type of person that would then say “oh, i don’t care who did it, it was the journey are characters that matter”. LOL, probably are.

Go on the net, go read what the producers are now saying, they basically did make it up as they went along and they didnt have any real answers . One of the writers has just apologised to those they think they failed with the last episode by sating “we blew it and we apologize for that”.

They royally screwed anyone with a brain that is not just an overly emotional loser that thinks a bunch of actors sobbing is good enough.

But you know best, don’t ya, lol, the producers have said sorry, but you know better?

  26. Steve May 28, 2010 at 10:09 pm -

Damn, I missed the second ep of “Modern Family”. I blame whatever crap that was on between that and 7pm Project that made me switch off.

  27. Ryano May 28, 2010 at 6:35 pm -

Pretty average stuff from 7 on Thursday yet again…
Better Homes and Gardens to 8.30 Thursday in Melb/Adel/Perth looks like a great move to me.

  28. 2.5 men May 28, 2010 at 6:09 pm -

i think the amazing race might of done better with a more family friendly time slot (7:30pm or even 8:30pm) and possibly fast tracked as well

  29. Johnson May 28, 2010 at 5:40 pm -

@RichoTB: there is no way a reality program like The Amazing Race should be axed midway through the season. Rather Seven should have fasttracked the current series back in February, instead of showing repeats of Thank God You’re Here from last year.

  30. jacko May 28, 2010 at 4:51 pm -

Huh??? Wassup??? Did Lost end up being another victim of the ‘over-zealousgeek-syndrome’??? Guess that was inevitable.

Lost ended exactly the way it should have.Okay, the ‘revelation’ was possibly a bit unoriginal, but I found the final 10 minutes or so to be a genuinely emotional experience.

Anyone who’s disappointed is a shallow fanboy/gal or an idiot

  31. RichoTB May 28, 2010 at 4:49 pm -

Seven need to axe The Amazing Race already. Figures like that are just pathetic

  32. ryan May 28, 2010 at 4:38 pm -

Any new time shifted figures david?

  33. Kevin V Russell May 28, 2010 at 4:11 pm -

aznfratboy I don’t watch any of those shows. The only one I would consider watching is Modern Family but since it has already finished in the U.S. for the year, that seems rather pointless.

  34. Kevin V Russell May 28, 2010 at 2:56 pm -

Hi this is Masterchef. Cue the crying. What a bore! How can anyone stand this tripe?

  35. James May 28, 2010 at 2:40 pm -

    @ Trev.
    It’s called pre-tuning

  36. Goonies May 28, 2010 at 1:50 pm -

When will Go! go back to playing unseen eps of Big Bang? The ep listed in the guide last night has been on at least 4 times now.

  37. CK May 28, 2010 at 12:30 pm -

    @ Trev
Why would 7pm project numbers go down after MC finishes? MC is after it, so I don’t get how that helps? If it was before it I understand!

  38. Craig May 28, 2010 at 12:22 pm -

ITA Voyage to the Planets is great, yet another reason to watch SeaBoatPatrol…

@chk chk – You should stick with Modern Family the ‘fat guy’ has some surprises ahead and Ty becomes less annoying. I’m just glad it doesn’t have a laugh track like most sitcoms.

  39. Johnson May 28, 2010 at 12:12 pm -

Great night for Ten, with MasterChef hitting 1.7 million, Glee setting new series high audience (again), and SVU doing well in younger demos thanks to the guest appearance by Mischa Barton.
A repeat episode of The Big Bang Theory also set a new audience record for a program on digital channel. 500,000 should not be far away.

  40. Peps May 28, 2010 at 10:58 am -

Getaway didn’t have a good night last night. I tuned in to see the best beaches episode which had been promoted all week only to find at the end of the show it will actually be on next week…it’s a good idea to check the promotions are correct before they go to air.

  41. steven guy May 28, 2010 at 10:37 am -

Voyage To The Planets has been amazing and if ever there was a sign of life for us to chase, if you look at the figures, i’m not sure Saturn is the one to head too !

And Fiona, white wine with meat, Yoiks!

  42. chk chk May 28, 2010 at 10:35 am -

I’ve watched for the first time last night my recorded ‘Modern Family’. I beleive it got high numbers purely because it was sandwiched between MC and NCIS otherwise I didn’t find it funny at all. I find the dad (Ty Burrell) a little grating and the fat gay guy to be totally stereotypical. 2 stars for me, looks like I’ll be using my extra space from my PVR for a different show now.

  43. Mark May 28, 2010 at 10:18 am -

@ Everyone Big Bang Did 326k last night on GO! is this a biggest ever audience for the digital Channels??

  44. Kuttsywood May 28, 2010 at 9:54 am -

If I were 7, I’d not be cheering just yet, about their 68 day Brisbane 5:30 losing streak ending. 7’s news lost last night, by a narrow margin.

  45. Johnson May 27, 2010 at 8:59 pm -

@ryan: Channel Nine Perth went straight to the actual Origin match, plus the post-match round-up.

  46. Trev May 27, 2010 at 7:45 pm -

I cannot see 7 taking over from Nine with its current line up of tired factuals and other shows whose days of glory are long behind them.
When MC ends, the 7pm turkey’s numbers will return to where they have been all along and the second half of 2010 for 10 will be identical to last year, an absolute disaster. One thing they can be proud of is the way MC has been so consistent regardless of what is thrown up against it, a good example being the League SOO last evening. 26% of Sydney tuned in and over 42% of Brisbane yet the amateur cooks still attracted almost 1.7 million nationally.

  47. Sarah May 27, 2010 at 6:46 pm -

Lost was a predictable ending. I think this is how they intended it to end. My friend predicted from the first season that they were dead or had died. Her first clue was the guy who was in a wheelchair and after the plane crashed he somehow had a miraculous recovery and could walk again.

  48. Allie May 27, 2010 at 4:25 pm -

Wow!!! Almost 1.2M viewers in Sydney alone for SoO. That is huge! MasterChef held up well against the League juggernaut, I must say.

  49. ryan May 27, 2010 at 2:40 pm -

the origin didnt start until way past 9 in perth, cold case was still on, did we get just the actual match or the pre match and so on delayed?

  50. Craig May 27, 2010 at 1:31 pm -

MC didn’t loose many viewers with a huge result predictably going to SoO, shame Lost didn’t do better, maybe if they had kept it on the main channel, then it would have been played only late night or worst still not at all if it wasn’t for 7Two.

Ten finally moved up from 3rd overall in the ratings due to Lost being an unter failure. Seven would be disappointed with last night, also, Seven’s Thursday night isn’t much better either so Seven will be disappointed with both nights. Not a great week overall for Seven really.

I stuck with the show but it was a bit of a let down in the end, a bit Meh. The last season and the final 15 minutes bore very little context to the last fives seasons IMO as noted before by many. That is what struck me the most. How random the finale was, how rushed and ill conceived it was. Very tacked together.

Almsot like they turned it into a purely character study cause they had no answers to give.

    3/10.

    Lost

    worst-finale-ever

an insult and a disgrace to all those that stuck with the show. go watch something else if you want a character study. lost was about mysteries and the writers have let us all down in a huge way.

what a lame lot deice to finish it off.

please defenders, explain to me how the “revelation” related in any way to the first 5 seasons of the show…..i’m waiting…

  56. Nik C May 27, 2010 at 11:52 am -

Wow MC is popular it has averaged 1.6 mill every night this week. Even against Origin!

The blues were a disgrace last night, shame on you Blues! What happens to smashing the canetoads?? You were humiliated in your home crowd again!

I thought the Seinfeld finale was great and much funnier then many of the final seasons episodes.

  59. ozzzie May 27, 2010 at 11:02 am -

wow, i was right in predicting that lost would get around 600k

  60. aznfratboy May 27, 2010 at 10:59 am -

@ Sara, I only watched the last 5 mins or so of the Lost finale and that’s basically all the Lost I’ve ever watched and believe me, there have been worse finales…

    Seinfeld
    Roseanne
    X Files
    Alias

are among some of the worst, The Sopraos and Lost aren’t that bad, The Soprano’s left things open for a future project, much like Dallas did, Lost was anti-climactic, compared to the hype and the rave I’ve heard about it…

Masterchef didn’t appear to suffer at all even though State of origin had huge numbers. I’d have preferred to watch MC but suffered through the footy for my husband :-) I think he wishes he had watched MC as well in the end. He’s a NSW supporter. Go the Maroons!

  62. koverstreet May 27, 2010 at 10:35 am -

Cripes 2.5m that must be close to a record. MC did well to maintain it’s usual ratings too.

  63. damo May 27, 2010 at 10:33 am -

no surprises soo belted mc. lost just like the show, a pathetic result

  64. sam May 27, 2010 at 10:29 am -

what ! Clair didnt cry last night on MC – that must be a first ….w\hat a bore she is….

  65. JB May 27, 2010 at 10:29 am -

I’m impressed with Melbourne’s State of Origin numbers. That’s huge. And i don’t know why Perth is talked about as next NRL expansion and Adelaide is dismissed when ratings seem to be on par and we got a decent crowd last year for the NRL game. Better than some crowds in Sydney.

Seven really should have put the Lost finale on Monday night. Was ridiculous to put it against State of Origin, and increase the risk of people getting it elsewhere so not surprised with those numbers. 3 million premiere, to 600,000 finale. Deserved better.

    Wed:
    The Morning Show 207,000
    KAK 112,000
    The Circle 74,000
    Ten News 84,000

Phenom result for Nine but MC and its own blues Vs maroon’s show held up well. 7 were no where on a night they were always going to lose I guess.

  68. sara May 27, 2010 at 8:25 am -

Lost Finale. What an utter and total piece of crap. They just ignored the past 5 years with an ending so mundane, so predictable, so unimaginative, so laughable it is almost astounding.

Really, we should have known all along. The producers lied, they did make it up as they went along.

The finale was all about something that was introduced only 2 weeks ago, bearing little relevance or context to the past 5 seasons.

The ending was a bees d*ck away from “oh, it was all a dream”.

Pathetic, what a waste of 6 years.

The Sopranos can now step down as worst ending of all time, lost has just taken the title.

Man tonight masterchef ep was sooo dam good, best ep i have seen so far! And the fact it was george’s press club made it even more fun to watch. Great to see celebs out too, steph looked hot compared to how she looks in neighbours

  71. David Knox May 26, 2010 at 10:19 pm -

Bogan Pride: The same thing I have done with the site for the last 3.5 years before HHIS was on…. also, “the host” does have a name too.
