7PM Project nudges 1.1m, wins slot

The 7PM Project won its timeslot last night, running over the magic million mark and nabbing its biggest audience all year.

The 7PM Project won its timeslot with 1.09m viewers last night.

The show has been inching closer to the magic million mark since the end of Daylight Saving, and the arrival of MasterChef. It ran right over the line last night pulling its best best figure for the year, and the highest since its debut week, with an appearance by NCIS star Pauley Perrette live in the studio.

It beat ABC News (1.05m), Two and a Half Men (980,000) and Home and Away (952,000).

TEN had another strong night with MasterChef Australia (1.86m), Glee (1.4m) and Law and Order: SVU (902,000).

Nine won the night in network figures with Sea Patrol nudging 1.2m (1.19m), Getaway on 1.03m, and The Big Bang Theory on GO! with a whopping 381,000.

Seven’s Thursday line-up continues to struggle with Seven News (1.47m) and Today Tonight (1.31m) its best performers. At 7:30 its combined Matty Johns / Vicar of Dibley offerings pulled 927,000 -half of MasterChef.

  1. it would be interesting to see how this show compared to the outdated American Sitcoms it replaced most of which are either now on Pay TV or now screen after Judge Judy.As i have mentioned earlier It is not just the audiences fed up of the rubbish in the same time slot on 7 and 9 that are switching over. You will get parents of school age preteens even watching

  2. @andy: completely agree with you on that one. People are just scared of change. But 7pm is a news programme that doesn’t always follow the traditions set by the international news standards board.

I’m really glad ten stuck with it. Since it was first advertised I thought “this could be a winner” and it has. It’s the first time ever, that 7:00pm has been a regular viewing time for me.

  3. Rather Pleased that people have given the 7pm project a fair chance. It is a great educational tool if you have children or happen to be a school teacher.Hopefully this means Ten won’t go back to the old outdated excuse of Friends or Will and Grace or any other sitcoms they use to show which are not on Nine.

  4. Good for the show! Although I’m still with ABC and SBS most of the time. Please TEN bring it back up late at night after the late night news!

  5. Certainly 1 thing comes to mind they have no opposition against the rest of the FTA stations.Always Foxtel for me tuning in for Eastenders lol

  6. I have always been a fan of The 7PM Project and am also a fan of Carrie.
Loving the fact that it is doing well and regardless of what happens after Masterchef I hope Ten stick with it.
Carrie mightn’t be the same as every other “journo” on tele but she is a journo… she has the credentials and she has found her own way of presenting news that doesn’t finish with a well rehearsed “hmmm”… “no doubt”… or a stunned botoxed look to camera.
Why does a fresh, interesting and different approach to television presenting attract so many nasty comments?
And why do young people (like Carrie) keep getting bagged when they are trying to offer something different… is that what we are all looking for on aussie TV?

  7. They deserve to do well.I stopped watching 2.5 men as I find that show is demeaning and don’t get me started on Home and Away That is Rubbish and the sooner they axe that and put on a decent sitcom the better

  8. Nah Carrie goes well with the 7pm proj, and while Georgie has the pro news reading style, I prefer Carrie’s laid back and relaxed approach. I think 7pm works really well with Dave, Charles and Carrie and I hope they don’t change that.

  9. I’m watching 7PM Project more often now – most days a week, than previously.

The mix of stories between serious and non-serious, and in particular the investigations they are having has improved – this may be due to the recent appointment of a news director to the programme.

One thing I am missing though is George Negus having disappeared on Mondays and I think there should be at least one local entertainment interview a week by Andrew G or James Mathieson.

  10. @ Goonies – I enjoy the lively and varied discussion that David’s site allows us to partake in. Healthy discourse is a great thing. I may be in the minority about Georgie / Carrie debate, but i read others’ opinions, and occasionally shift my own; as a result! Cheers – happy weekend to all!

  11. @ dave – thank you very much for such a polite post even though you were disagreeing with our points. So refereshing to not have someone call me a moron or idiot because I don’t agree with their views.

    Much respect 🙂

  12. I guess now that it’s reached one million, Ten are going to leave it as it is, with “don’t mess with a winning formula” as their reasoning. You’d be fooling yourself if you said it was the perfect show and I still think that it could be tweaked some more, it could even win its slot every day with luck. I was also thinking last week that Gorgi would make a better co-host than vacuous Carrie, but that’s probably not going to happen since she’s already got The Circle. That said, the show is better than It’s Currently Tonight and Today’s Affair (although that isn’t saying much) and it’s good to see it succeeding.
