Fans faint for FlashForward

To mark the last ever episode of FlashForward tonight, here's a recent moment from some fans who were desperate to save the show.

Tonight marks the last ever episode of FlashForward, the drama that exploded onto our television screens last year with so much hype.

But like loyal fans of Jericho, some US fans decided to demonstrate their passion by staging a “mass blackout” to convince US executives to keep the show. Mini-blackouts were staged in New York, Atlanta, Seattle, Toronto, Detroit, Chicago and Los Angeles, where protestors fainted in front of ABC’s offices in Burbank.

It wasn’t such a successful campaign. Or even much of a turnout. In fact it probably only says a lot more about them than about the show.

It airs at 11:30 tonight on Seven if you’re keen.

  1. It includes an interview with David H Lawrence XVII (Heroes). In case people are wondering the XVII in his name is not because he is the 17th member of his family line to have that name but to distinguishes himself from previous David Lawrences registered with SAG (as I read in Wikipedia).

  2. I beleive that the shows demise was its inability to hone in on the problem early. The entire world has blacked out, now I know that all the main characters have had dramatic flashforwards, but that doesn’t mean you focus on them, your focus on the huge issue, the global blackout, I believe that if they’d have focused on that, it wouldn’t have been cancelled.

  3. There were many reasons to hate the show, essentially it was a great premise being milked and that just never works. What killed it for me though, were the overt religious overtones.

  4. Having viewed some of the video, it looks like they put in minimal effort. If they were true fans they would have done a more realistic blackout by falling down on the road while crossing it, havinga few car crashes where the driver stays blacked out for a couple of minutes before calling their insurance company.

Instead we have about 10 people who look like they’re having a post-picnic nap on the nature strip.

  5. I know I obtained the final episode. I think I watched it. Can’t remember what happened. Not sure I’ve ever been less enthused by finale. Or will be again. FlashFail.

  6. After hearing about the fate of the show before watching the first ep of season 2 I wasn’t sure if I wanted to bother, but this season has been quite good… it’s a shame that it ended…

  7. There are many good things about US TV, but it has a strange rigidity – very occasionally a mini series, but mostly a series, with the assumption at the outset that it will continue till axed… sooner or later. This is the kind of story that needs a fixed run – say 12 episodes and that is it, then it can be paced properly and come to a definitive ending.

  8. Could have been an interesting premis, but the Yanks just have to flog it and flog it. It should have been a 4-5 episode mini-series (the same with V) not dragged on for weeks and weeks and nothing happening. They will never learn…

  9. a bit lame sorry.

I’ve been keeping up with the show, but only because I knew it was ending after this season, if they’d renewed it, I would have definitely given up.

Good concept, written poorly, I didn’t care at all for the characters. They should look at fringe, it’s one of the best character driven shows I’ve watched.

  10. I’ve stuck through it and yes it has been slow, but recent weeks have brought out some answers and the show is now actually quite interesting. I would like to have seen it continue.

It’s a shame that most viewers these days don’t have much patience and are after a quick entertainment fix, i.e. a storyline that is all over in an hour. Shows such as Lost and Flashforward create an ongoing experience and make you think. I hope this serial format can make a comeback and soon.

  11. Thrilling as that video is, I can’t help but think it might have been just tiny bit more effective if there were actually people around to see it. That place looked deserted. Kudos to them for doing it though.
