  1. I don’t normally comment on these things, but I have to say that this is such an impressive show, very well crafted, and excellent performances – a perfect mix of droll deadpan and clowning, but always truthful and with conviction. So rare to see a ‘cinematic’ Australian comedy. It has a generous, buoyant energy and a highly developed sense of the ridiculous. The narration is used mostly for ironic counterpointing as far as I can see, rarely if ever for exposition. It’s smart, subtle, sophisticated, and doesn’t take itself too seriously. It’s so refreshing to see that a show like this can be made in Australia.

  2. Lowdown is classic TV. I think it’s subtle, full of wit and beautifully executed. The narrator throws observations into the mix now and then, enhancing what we’ve already seen. What’s more, the show has great heart. It already has a growing fan base and you can expect it to grow.

  3. Doesn’t make much difference, the show’s pretty dreadful. It has improved noticeably from the first episodes (I actually laughed occasionally during the last couple of episodes) but it still has too many useless, unfunny and badly overacted secondary characters – e.g. the painfully unfunny cameraman, the even more unfunny doctor and the artist girlfriend. The narration is off putting and often unfunny too. Show don’t tell, storytelling 101 people – the same problem as Underbelly!

The main story-lines are pretty good and the premise of a tabloid journalist is good, but the execution and supporting roles let this show down unfortunately.
