Matt Preston in Chat-alicious talks

The MasterChef judge has been in discussions with Andrew Denton to host a TV chat show.

Could Matt Preston be the next Andrew Denton?

The Herald Sun reports the MasterChef judge has been in discussions with Denton’s production company, Zapruder’s Other Films, to host a TV chat show.

The journalist-turned-reality-judge could take on the role in addition to the cooking series.

Preston, who won the peer-voted Graham Kennedy Award for Most Outstanding New Talent at this year’s Logies, is currently in contract negotiations with TEN. His popularity also saw him nominated as Most Popular New Talent (Male) but this week Q Score expert David Castran said Preston polarises people.

“Although 83 per cent of people surveyed across Australia recognised him, around 19 per cent actively disliked him, resulting in a Q Score of just 7.2.”

This week it was reported that TEN had put a stop to any marketing endorsement for Jenny Craig because it wasn’t a match fit with MasterChef.

Preston is known to have knocked back other lucrative sponsorship offers he wasn’t comfortable with, but currently appears in a napkin advertisement.

He has previously floated the idea of another TV project, possibly as a food / travel show.

  1. No thanks, isn’t everyone sick of the over hyped and overrated reality trash Masterchef by now? Never liked it and never will and certainly don’t need any of the so called “celebrities” it spawned fronting their own talk shows.

  2. Play to his strengths – his passion, appreciation of good food and flambuoyant personality and do a talky type show where he meets guests in fascinating global restaurants. I’d watch that for sure!

  3. @BlackBetty: Yeah, Gary is awesome. I think he did have a cooking show on Seven with that health nut who’s on the Biggest Loser’s masterclass now. It was called ‘Good Chef, Bad Chef’

  4. barf barf barf!!! I think people are over him by now!! I don’t know why people liked him in the first place! I neved did… George and especially Gary are much better judges/personalities and more likeable!

He’s just greedy and trying to lap up all this media attention!! I don’t see George and Gary doing the same!

  5. I’m not liking him and George as much this series. They’ve become too theatrical.
Gary, on the other hand, is divine to watch.
I really enjoy his delivery. And he’s a great teacher as seen in the Masterclass eps. I’d love for him to have his own cooking show.

  6. From great TV personality to ‘media whore’ in a couple of months. Makes Jamie Durie look shy and retiring. Are those stories about Matt being the face of Jenny Craig really true? I had to double check to make sure it wasnt April Fools Day.

  7. Great, talk about flogging a you know what.
I always thought that Ita Buttrose would make a great interviewer in the style of Talking Heads. Now that is a nice 22 minutes of tv i look forward to most weeks.
