No Money Shot for TEN

By David Knox on June 27, 2010 / Filed Under News 12

If they can get a cooking show to work, they could probably get a reality show about anything to work. But photographers? Why not?

The Sunday Telegraph reports that TEN execs are mulling a new reality series “in the vein of Australia’s Next Top Model, but for photographers.”

In the US, Bravo is developing a new reality series called Money Shot that pits photographers against one another for the chance to have their pictures appear in the pages of People magazine. But that title also conjures up plenty of other possibilities….

Photographic agent Dolores Lavin and corporate publicists Mark Cavanagh and Emma Van Handel are some of the names being floated as possible judges for TEN.

When Programmer Beverley McGarvey was to speak at the C21 Formats Lab in Europe last October, she remarked that TEN would be looking to launch its next big entertainment format within the next 12 – 18 months.

Have they found the one they were looking for?

UPDATE: TEN has this morning denied the Sunday Telegraph report about reality series on photographers, telling TV Tonight: “We were pitched it months ago and passed immediately. Having said that we will be announcing a new shiny floor format very soon!”

A reality show about photography would be great! they could have challenges like who can get the best pap shot and advertising shot etc.. and throw some obstacles their way to make it a bit difficult.

And we all know photographers are a bit weird or fiery.

I hope Ten do an Aussie series of The Amazing Race I really hope they do; the masterchef/amazing race hybrid episodes are outstanding.

@T-Mac, Undercover Boss has already been announced and is a short run 1hr/week factual. if that is the next big new format they are talking about it would be pretty disapointing.

this new show will probably be a big new network tentpole to replace either Idol or SYTYCD. it will be interesting what it is, now that 7 has X factor almost every big reality franchise in the world has been done in Australia now. but MC was not a big franchise when ten chose it so it will probably bea surprise.

Re Ducko: “Shiny floor” is an insider term for a big reality/light entertainment format that dominates a network’s schedule. I reckon the show mentioned at the end of the article is Undercover Boss.

I think viewers are (temporarily) over gossip reality where there is nil substance

Not sure if it is a ratings winner but as a fanatical camera knob i would be putting my hand up for a go at this.

Wow, 15 minutes of fame for camera geeks, i knew my time would come, lol !

David I guess you know People Magazine in the US has nothing to do with half dressed girls… well unless you’re talking actresses LOL

Sounds like a good idea IMHO.

It will be no more than PG rated, David!
