australias got talent final did well, im surprised x factor got 1.8 in the finale and AGT got 1.9 they are both similar shows, i wonder why people like AGT more, personally X Factor is a better production than AGT but i like Danni on there i wish she was on X Australia but i know she does the English version in that period.

So channel Ten screwed up the morning shows for the boring freaking golf. Why? It does not appear that anyone could be bothered watching it. It makes wasting millions of taxpayer dollars just for Woods to turn up even more disgraceful and stupid.

David, what were the Saturday night AFL ratings for ONE? You would have to add another 100k nationally on top of that figure no doubt.

Ratings for this world cup are down on Germany and it has nothing to do with digital TV or PayTV. People don’t stay up to midnight or get up at 4.30am to watch a show on GO or 7TWO. There clearly isn’t the same interest level there was 4 years ago. Still I’d rather these ratings then the Rugby Union.

@ butters: going from 1.25m to 649,000 is not good and none of those shows had a good lead in like mc

  11. Butters June 20, 2010 at 12:00 am -

@ ryan and co – NCIS repeats rate better than Supernatural, Nurse Jackie and Californiation..

  12. ryan June 19, 2010 at 6:49 pm -

@ Ryano: Totally agree, i live in perth aswell and im sick and tired of waiting for better homes and gardens to finish!!! All we can hope for is the next rights owners have to play live friday night games.

  13. Ryano June 19, 2010 at 6:24 pm -

Im a huge AFL fan living in Perth, but I have to say, I have stopped watching Friday night games because of the 3 hour delay.
I will simply keep up with the score on twitter and watch the highlights on Fox or online before the game is at quater time on 7 Perth’s air.

  14. Belinda June 19, 2010 at 4:27 pm -

Ten does not have new Californication on the shelf. They will soon have new White Collar episodes, and I wish they would just air Nurse Jackie.

Nice to see Being Human make the list, but why no captions ABC2?

  15. aznfratboy June 19, 2010 at 3:07 pm -

Nice to see a slight increase for ER, after all, nearly the entire original cast came back for Thursday night’s episode… Clooney included! LOL

  16. Johnson June 19, 2010 at 1:16 pm -

Serbia’s upset win over Germany in the World Cup soccer last night did very well for SBS, because the result affects Australia’s chances of qualifying to the next round.

  17. koverstreet June 19, 2010 at 12:58 pm -

The way AFL is rating recently I don’t know why Nine would bother spending zillions to get it back. I suppose though combined with the NRL they would win Fridays consistently.

  18. Rob June 19, 2010 at 12:31 pm -

JB, Seven are having success with the AFL, the numbers might not be as big as the NRL, but AFL games go for 3 hours compared to 2 hours (NRL) and coupled with better homes and gardens it creates a very strong schedule from 7:30-11:30, so whilst seven keeps winning the night on the back of delayed AFL coverage, i dont think they would change anything or be concerned with slightly lower average AFL figures.

  19. Jarred June 19, 2010 at 12:27 pm -

    @JB,
I agree the last nights crowd was relatively low for 2 victorian clubs at the MCG but it still beats any crowd that most NRL games get. I also agree that Seven need to get with the times and show the game live.
However, I don’t think 2 Friday Night AFL games will work because the whole thing with Friday nights is the exclusive viewing audience. How can Seven expect high ratings when theirs usually a 3 hour delay in Perth, 1.5 hours in Adelaide and 1 in Melbourne. To me, it seems like live broadcasts are common sense, common sense that Seven programmers don’t seem to have.

  20. astro June 19, 2010 at 12:24 pm -

I agree with Ryan. Ch 10 need to get rid Of NCIS and repeats of Glee and give us Nurse Jackie, Californication or Super Natural. I am so over American crime shows.

I cannot believe they have a great show like Nurse Jackie and they don’t even show it (or if they do it’s on at some stupid hour). Nearly just as bad as what Ch7 do to 30 Rock!

Ch 10 need to hurry up and bring on an extra channel. If they had one that was half decent they would nearly be winning the ratings every night at the moment.

  21. FJ June 19, 2010 at 12:03 pm -

    @JB
The NRL game was not live so your comment doesn’t make much sense.

  22. David Knox June 19, 2010 at 12:01 pm -

FJ.. dunno I just file OzTAM info alas.

  23. JB June 19, 2010 at 11:41 am -

Live NRL in 2 cities beats AFL. If Seven and AFL want success, they need to show live matches, and they need to schedule 2 Friday night games like the NRL does. 1 match in Melbourne, 1 in Adelaide/Perth and this will significantly increase the audience numbers. And heck it will even get bigger attendances at games with more Friday night matches.

  24. FJ June 19, 2010 at 11:40 am -

David, why is the Rugby League game listed as live?
Both last nights games were shown on delay.

  25. Harry June 19, 2010 at 11:18 am -

    Craig,
Agreed. NCIS reruns are already on Tuesdays since new eps finished. Having them on Fridays are overkill.

  26. Craig June 19, 2010 at 6:49 am -

I think TEN should be airing new Supernatural on Fridays after MC, I like NCIS but enough already with the re-runs! I do think Numb3rs needs to stay as they still have a season worth of eps to air and I can’t wait for their 3rd channel for them to bring it back! But please TEN replace NCIS with something new on Fridays.

  27. ryan June 19, 2010 at 12:55 am -

Ten are pretty much running out of time to really capitalise on mc. Still having repeats of ncis and crap numbers on fridays after finally having a show that pulls over 1.1m and they still wont put something good on after it. They have plenty of shows they could use, adults only simpsons , new nurse jackie, new law and order, new movies, new burn notice, new californication and it goes on. Most of these shows could even be used for a 10 or 9.30 pm slot on mondays. So come on ten stop showing us repeats of glee and ncis and bring us some new eps of something

ThomThom, people have been writing off the Footy Show for years but as long as 9 has the League rights it will stumble on. I stopped watching it 3 years ago by the way. Hamish and Andy sure did pull them in. I was out and forgot to record it. I hope that the old fashioned moronic ocker attitude that blighted similar shows in the past was absent. Please assure me someone.

  30. Tony June 18, 2010 at 6:13 pm -

I have to ask as a legitimate question, if Channel 7 is now again trying to run HIMYM and Cougar Town after their previous low rating runs, has Channel 7 run low on first run material? Surely even a new run of the Ghost Whisperer or a un-run season of the Amazing Race would do better on a Thursday. I will add to this question “Hung”, which looks like a great show that probably wil a niche ratings player (though I hope I am wrong, it looks quiet good)

  31. Jarred June 18, 2010 at 6:03 pm -

    @Thomthon
Thats a bit premature don’t ya think. The show was 2nd in its timeslot behind Law and Order, after that it was 1st in its timslot so I don’t think its that bad, not bad enough to end it anyway.

  32. bogan pride June 18, 2010 at 4:53 pm -

@ Craig. relax mate, loosen your cravat. I was only ribbing the MC fan boys. I don’t hate the show or channel ten. I just because don’t watch MC doesn’t mean i hate it. I even flip channels sometimes to see if they are doing anything interesting. If they are i might watch a little. But mostly they aren’t. They are normally doing-that pick a ingredient. it’s a little like.
Host: ok larry guess whats in this bowl of white rice.
    Larry: duh potato?
    Host: Nope mary your turn.
    Mary potatoes?
    host : nope, larry?
    Larry: patatwo?
host: ooooo So close , but no………
And lay off of best and less.. They have comfy flannelet shirts, at great prices.
Yeah that’s right..I wear flannelet shirts. They keep me snug and warm on cold mornings at work , and i don’t care if they get ruined. Plus all the women who work in offices think i look sexy. And i agree.

  33. thomthom June 18, 2010 at 4:44 pm -

They are really poor numbers for The Footy Show. I’d say the end is near, it was a good show in it’s prime

@Jarred Yes, One does well when live sport is on (AFL, F1, MotoGP), but struggles the rest of the time… though One week at a time did make the top 100 last week. They’ll be glad if/when anti-siphoning is gone and they can show more live sport!

  35. David Knox June 18, 2010 at 4:11 pm -

Yes it seems my reminder below to lift the tone hasn’t been observed much. A reminder that Comments Policy includes writing respectfully of others.

  36. ryan June 18, 2010 at 4:10 pm -

@tdj: obviously you dont know what your talking about! esp since you say you wouldnt watch it! The best cooks are still in the competition, so get off your high horse!

  37. Peps June 18, 2010 at 4:06 pm -

7PM Project beat Home & Away convincingly in Melb and Bris, no doubt it’s helped by Masterchef and the appearance of Hamish & Andy but it goes to show people will watch it. Good on Ten for sticking with it – hopefully Charlie Pickering can go on an extended break and the figures will continue to rise!

  38. Jarred June 18, 2010 at 3:47 pm -

David, you may need to take control of this MC debate, its getting a bit personal and offensive now.

  39. Goonies June 18, 2010 at 2:49 pm -

@ TDJ – how about you enlighten us with some of the tv shows you watch so we can all make baseless judegement calls too?

By all means criticise the show (constructively would help) but there is no need to be so rude to everyone.

A bit of back and forth is nice but why be such a miserable bugger about it?

  40. JB June 18, 2010 at 2:32 pm -

As someone else commented elsewhere on the site, Seven have killed any chance of HIMYM being successful. In my opinion its a much better show than 2.5 Men but somehow Nine managed to make it work and rate well. Seven screwed around too much with HIMYM. It use to do well and they had it on weeknights over summer one year and did well. Even Big Bang Theory somehow rates. Seven really messed up with this one

  41. hoople June 18, 2010 at 1:55 pm -

whoaa why is everyone so offended that people like masterchef? i think people are entitled to like and dislike shows as they please without being called stupid or gullible.

  42. TDJ June 18, 2010 at 1:49 pm -

Master Chef only proves what a pack of gullible fools watch this rubbish. The entire premise that the program is based on is false. As with any program of it’s type the show is manipulated to get the most gullible fools watching, not to award the best cook. We have already seen proof of the rigging of the program, but stupid people still allow themselves to be conned by the network. The only people dumber are the ones that hand over money to vote on these types of scams. While idiots keep settling for rubbish TV we will keep getting rubbish.

  43. damo June 18, 2010 at 1:42 pm -

cougar town has run it’s race and it'[s sevens own fault. they flogged it like a dead horse during the tennis and the publis were sick of it straight away

  44. David Knox June 18, 2010 at 1:32 pm -

Ok time for a group hug people…

  45. CrAig June 18, 2010 at 1:23 pm -

Darryn, as per usual the most boring part of this thread is your constant TEN bashing.
If some bogan pride moron wants to state incorrect facts about MasterChef, then let the fanboys stand up for it.
Bogan pride, find your local Stockland mall, and get lost in Best and Less for a while, you’ve no idea

  46. Jarred June 18, 2010 at 12:40 pm -

    @ Jerome,
Good point, however, while the TEN network didn’t win the day, the primary TEN channel won the day which is expected when you consider the numbers. When I wrote my post, David hadn’t posted the extra information at that time. I agree that One in particular is letting them down, hopefully with the US Open over the next 4 days and the Delhi Olympics in future weeks, these can lift One’s ratings.

  47. Donald June 18, 2010 at 12:37 pm -

Actually, I should correct what I said – looks more like 4-5 shows on a daily basis now. Often when Big Bang or live sport wasn’t on, Dirty Jobs on ABC2 would be the only show from a secondary channel in the top 100. Looks like they’re starting to appear a little bit more now (e.g. Total Drama Island from ABC3 is starting to make regular appearances this week, which I’d not really noticed it before – I think it’s the first time I’ve seen an ABC3 show in the top 100).

  48. Donald June 18, 2010 at 12:28 pm -

Hey David. Yes, have seen the top shows for secondary channels, but usually there’s little more than that (maybe 2 or 3 shows if the secondary channels have a good day). Not looking to create extra work for you, just thought you might suggest to OzTAM that they may like to provide the figures to you in this format. I’m sure you agree it’s interesting to see how things are developing in this new frontier. :-) Thanks.

  49. David Knox June 18, 2010 at 11:40 am -

Slam incorrect. TEN primary share was 25.6% + 0.7% = 26.3%. Bit surprised OzTAM has Nine at 26.7% (and not 26.6%) but I don’t do the maths they do, and even accounting for an extra 1% they still beat TEN.

Donald: Thanks….. I’m not looking to spend any extra time to re-list ratings in another format but I can tell you I always try to show the top title for each digital channel. For instance if you scroll down Thursday you can see Big Bang, Dirty Jobs and M: Dr. No as the top show for GO!, ABC2 and 7TWO.

  50. Craig June 18, 2010 at 11:31 am -

ETA – @bogan pride – where do you get those numbers from for MC/SOO? MC was almost 1.8 Million viewers Wednesday night, not bad up against SOO and hardly got ‘hammered’ I have a feeling you don’t like the show or the channel for some reason… maybe it’s all in your screen name?

  51. Craig June 18, 2010 at 11:27 am -

So who’s going to lay a bet that Seven will change their Thursday night line up before the end of the day?

Nine just winning the night, sure would be interesting if TEN had a second general ent channel for the likes of Supernatural and even if they got just 1% it would be enough to give them the win for the night. Hope they change their plans and bring in their 3rd channel ASAP!

  52. Donald June 18, 2010 at 11:22 am -

The Gruen Transfer gets almost 1.2M on Wednesday, and then the repeat the following night on ABC2 cracks the top 100 as well with another 144k – impressive.

David, appreciate the figures that you provide outside the top 30, and also appreciate OzTAM don’t want you giving away too much (they’re a business after all). Mostly (not always, but mostly) people are interested in the secondary channels when it comes to outside the top 30 (looks like the top rated secondary channel show usually comes in around 40 or thereabouts? Live sport on One or Big Bang repeat on Go look to get closest to cracking top 30) – maybe you could put it to OzTAM to do daily top 20 overall plus daily top 10 for secondaries? Would give a better picture of how the secondary channel shows are going. Or maybe you could give us the overall position of the top secondary shows when you post them?

Thanks again for your efforts. :-)

  53. slam June 18, 2010 at 11:21 am -

    Hi David,

From the ratings data I have here, TEN actually won the night.

They scored a primary channel percentage of 26.3 and ONE had 0.6. Nine had 22.7 and 4.0 from GO! giving TEN a nightly win by the slimmest of margins, 0.2%.

  54. Jerome June 18, 2010 at 11:04 am -

@Jarred, early evenings, late nights, and ONE make it very difficult for ten to win a night.

i said it last week, 7 really should have kept CM(R) in the Thursday slot altleast until new episoes return and glee is over. it was starting to do ok figures. there seems to be little interest in HIMYM, 7 have given it so many chances and it fails every time.

  55. RichoTB June 18, 2010 at 10:36 am -

@Darren: I am by no means a Masterchef fan (didn’t bother with the show until the last few weeks of the season last year, and haven’t seen any of season 2), but you can’t say its being ‘smashed, thrashed, hammered’, et al when it isn’t.

We all know you’re anti-network Ten but that doesn’t mean everyone else loves them.

  56. Jarred June 18, 2010 at 10:13 am -

How did TEN not win yesterday? More to the point, how did Nine win it? Looking at the numbers, I would’ve thought TEN had the day easily.

I think its safe to say that Hamish and Andy are saving TEN. They boosted Roves ratings when they were on, they boost 7PM projects ratings when their on and now they get 2nd spot with their own show, TEN, you should be on your knees thanking H & A.

Seven’s woeful Thursday continue, even though they brought CT and HIMYM back. That lineup will never win them the day, its just not appealing enough.

@ Boganpride, I’m not sure what planet you live on but MC wasn’t thrashed this week. HIMYM got thrashed last night by Sea Patrol and H & A, thats a real thrashing.

  57. Steven I June 18, 2010 at 10:09 am -

Wow huge ratings for Hamish and Andy, no doubt helped by the MC lead in. I give Cougar Town another week before it’s pulled.

  58. darryn June 18, 2010 at 9:01 am -

Slightest bit of a go at mastercrap and you guys go into meltdown. If people who don’t like the show (or hate it as I do) have to wade through endless brown nosing posts about it, then at least been kind enough to allow people like bogan pride to inject some levity into an ever increasingly boring thread/s, you are humans, not a pack of wild dogs.

  59. John June 18, 2010 at 8:46 am -

Seven should have put on a Best of X Factor show with UK clips to put on against the State of Origin. It would have done better than Schindler’s List and given some *more* promotion to the Australian reboot of the show.

  60. Janey June 18, 2010 at 7:28 am -

@bogan pride…Based on correct times, Masterchef only lost its timeslot by 4,000 viewers on Wednesday (7.30pm-8.34pm) Masterchef had 1,799,000 viewers and Nine had 1,803,000 and Seven 808,000. On Tuesday Masterchef won its timeslot (7.30pm-8.06pm) with 1,752,000 viewers while Seven had 1,629,000 and Nine 1,065,000 for the same time.

  61. RichoTB June 17, 2010 at 10:25 pm -

I’m thinking bogan pride is ‘hammered’ to think MC has been smashed and hammered the past two nights.

  62. bogan pride June 17, 2010 at 9:52 pm -

Two nights in a row MC has been hammered in the ratings.SOO smashed by almost a million. a million!!! Man give them a shovel. They were buried in a avalanche. Good to see huey in the top 30. Pity they had to stick infomercials in the show

  63. Mark June 17, 2010 at 8:42 pm -

actually it’s interesting… MC doesn’t lose much viewers, it’s just that more tune in for other Shows… AGT & SOO

  64. barrett June 17, 2010 at 8:24 pm -

Looks like Top Gear is following Hey Hey in sub 1M territory.

  65. Jellyman June 17, 2010 at 4:57 pm -

Ten’s going well this week, with the Caravan of Courage Special on Tonight after Masterchef, that will Attract Huge Numbers.

  66. Jerome June 17, 2010 at 4:03 pm -

Sunrise is doing well at the moment around 100k ahead of today 3 days this week so far. that’s what they were getting at their peak. any ground lost because of the winter olympics seems to have finally been forgotten.

terrible night for 7, schindlers list made them come behind ten! it’s a very good movie but it was never going to rate.

  67. Jarred June 17, 2010 at 3:45 pm -

Those numbers for state of origin are incredible, almost half the population of Brisbane (and no doubt more at some stage throughout the match) was tuned in. Decent support from Melbournites as well but in Adelaide and Perth, theres next to no support because theres no rubgy team representing them and no incentive to watch. I began watching the start but fell asleep, how unfortunate.

ABC’s double header of Spicks & Specks and Gruen Transfer was very promising considering the State of Origin was on. Expect increases in future weeks.

Last night was Seven’s turn to have a horrible night, Nine’s was Tuesday night.

  68. ryan June 17, 2010 at 3:40 pm -

Ten please put the new season of burn notice on, cut back gnw to 1 hr and put it after gnw

  69. Johnson June 17, 2010 at 3:39 pm -

State of Origin actually lost audience in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth from Game 1 three weeks ago, the latter two due to 9.30pm start.

  70. ant June 17, 2010 at 3:22 pm -

    where Wednesday’s figures

  71. ryan June 17, 2010 at 3:15 pm -

Who watched cruel intentions last night? did you have problems with go aswell? screen kept going black and skipping. Very annoying

  72. damo June 17, 2010 at 2:41 pm -

agt didn’t exactly belt master chef.

  73. Craig June 17, 2010 at 2:26 pm -

@bogan pride – at 1.75mil I would hardly say MC got smashed Tuesday night, it was lower because of the AGT final, as expected. On the other hand TG got smashed at just over 1 million viewer v clost to 2 million for AGT.

  74. Goonies June 17, 2010 at 2:24 pm -

‘6 Going on 60′ on ABC2 last night was one of the best things I have seen on tv in such a long time. The spirit of those little girls was just amazing and they had in me tears more than once.

    Thank you ABC :)

  75. damo June 17, 2010 at 2:14 pm -

@jerome. washed up buskers isn’t good vewing and that’s all xfactor will be and please don’t expect it too be anything like the english version. it won’t be anything like it

  76. Jerome June 17, 2010 at 11:51 am -

    @damo. why not?

  77. Guido-jacko June 17, 2010 at 11:41 am -

@bogan pride …beaten, yeah, but hardly ‘smashed’…mc still performed well enough…it was the agt finale after all. Imagine how well the finale of mc is gonna do!

  78. bogan pride June 17, 2010 at 10:21 am -

Amazed to see MC getting smashed in the ratings. Good job AGT.
