Ten really need to do something about their sats, Before the game should be a one hd only show across all states every week, motorcycle racing should also be a one hd only show, They should be playing a live match every sat night then a first run movie Or atleast a blockbuster we havnt seen a thousand times!

  2. FJ June 27, 2010 at 3:09 pm -

Why are the AFL expecting more from their next TV deal when the the two places they are expanding into get ratings that are just terrible?
20 year old movies get higher ratings than AFL in Sydney and Brisbane.

  3. Trev June 27, 2010 at 1:51 pm -

@ Jarred. You’re correct about the TV rating figures in the past. During the Swans flag winning year they would occasionally get around 150,000 viewers watching a live telecast, but since then ground attendance has been slowly sliding and as last nights ratings show, their viewing audience hardly exists anymore. Brisbane is experiencing the same with the Lions. Even the Union match in Brisbane had 5 times more viewers than the Aussie Rules.

  4. koverstreet June 27, 2010 at 1:15 pm -

Nice to see a quality show like Islands Of Britain do well. Hadn’t watched it yet and did last night and thought it was an excellent doco with an engaging host. Will have to get the whole series elsewhere now.

  5. Jarred June 27, 2010 at 12:15 pm -

    @ Ducko
Ratings are obviously based on viewers on TV but viewers at the grounds themselves are just as important. Their were record crowd attendances at AFL matches last year which means more people are actually attending the game as opposed to watching it on TV. This may be why TV ratings are falling.
Another reason may be the fact that, in recent times, the non-victorian teams overall have been doing fairly poorly. So the interstate viewing audiences might’ve been fairly low because people wouldn’t go out their way to watch the match. In the hey-day’s of Sydney, West Coast and Brisbane, I suspect viewing audience would’ve been much higher. Can anyone confirm that??

  6. ducko June 27, 2010 at 11:41 am -

Jarrod, we’re talking ratings not football crowds. No-one’s bashing the AFL, but it must be of concern that ratings seem to be falling. Do you have any theories?

  7. Johnson June 27, 2010 at 11:32 am -

Massive figures for Seven News for a Saturday night, especially in Melbourne. Unfortunately poor ratings for the rugby union test plus good figures for Shrek the Third gave Nine the win.

  8. Reilly June 27, 2010 at 11:27 am -

It seems all football codes are struggling for viewers at the moment. Shocking numbers for RU last night.

  9. Jarred June 27, 2010 at 9:58 am -

The sad thing is for all the NRL supporters and AFL bashers is that the crowds numbers are just horrid at most NRL matches. There was only around 15000 at each of your Friday Night Matches whereas the AFL game last night in Sydney got 43500+ and there was 58000+ at the AFL’s Friday Night match and it was cold and raining. The NRL has so many more problems than the AFL on so many levels.

  10. Andrew June 27, 2010 at 1:16 am -

The AFL ratings just get worse. For a split round , the much hyped grand final reply ratings, prove the AFL is on the slide. They can’t seem to get over 700000 anymore, To be honest the NRL seems a much better value for money package

  11. Eye Spy June 26, 2010 at 8:53 pm -

Stephen-good call re. Sea Patrol. I did a fairly lengthy time in the military and couldn’t watch anymore after a few episodes it’s that corny as the yanks would say. Other ex-serviceman have a good laugh at it which sums up the show completely.
Santo, Sam and Ed’s Cup Fever on SBS is really great and deserves better ratings. You don’t have to be a soccer fan to enjoy it. Given all the antics going on on the pitch they have plenty of material to work with . Certainly is much better then the various Footy Show efforts with their “aren’t we great characters”attitude. Take that Fatty and Sam!

  12. Jerome June 26, 2010 at 8:47 pm -

chk chk, motorway patrol is a NZ show. 7 airs the Australian ‘Highway Patrol’. those factuals seem to be doing ok especially up against a big live footy match last night. and 9 were right to get rid of top gear if they wantedto keep it on tuesdays. but 9 sure do have a factual overloaded schedule that the moment with customs, mororway patrol, families of crime, australian druglords, RBT and send in the dogs.

  13. chk chk June 26, 2010 at 6:37 pm -

    What’s Motorway Patrol (#30 in the Friday’s list)? Wasn’t that a Ch7 show?

  14. Jerome June 26, 2010 at 6:26 pm -

live AFL did pretty bad in melbourne for a big match. if live fridays are made manditory in the next deal networks will not be wanting to pay much for it.

ratings wise 7 would definately be better off with vicar on thurs, BH&G on fri and delayed AFL this week. can’t see them rushing to go live any more for the rest of the year.

  15. Shannon Butler June 26, 2010 at 3:35 pm -

Tasmanian de√il , I stand by my comments, Transfer is brainless and lazy T.V , why people find a show about commercials entertaining is beyond me , If I cared to know about ad’s ,I wouldn’t be leaving my TV set at each station break , so why on earth would I want to watch a show on them ,on the other hand Hey Hey is silly, wacky , and entertaining and goes to great effort to create 2 hours of variety each week , sure It’s not going to change the world , but It does try to make It a pleasant one , and has a great cast who all have some form of great wit behind them.
I find It funny that someone like you questions why Hey Hey is more entertaining then Transfer by your sarcastic comments.

  16. Ja'mie June 26, 2010 at 2:12 pm -

Those are fairly terrible live AFL figures in Melbourne, especially for a grand final rematch. I don’t think we’ll see Seven regularly going live with AFL any time soon.

  17. Stephen Tyas June 26, 2010 at 2:08 pm -

The ratings for Australia’s games at the World Cup show that while there interest is still there the novelty has worn off for the bandwagon supporters. Same problem the A-League is having.

  18. wayne June 26, 2010 at 1:37 pm -

flashforward made it on the radar.woohoo.

  19. Jarred June 26, 2010 at 1:18 pm -

    @ Reilly,
I agree with you here, but ultimately, the broadcasters televise matches based on the demand. There is little demand for NRL in Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth and likewise with AFL in Sydney and Brisbane. Thats why it varies from state.

In regards to broadcasting matches live, I totally agree. The decision on the next AFL broadcast rights deal will be mostly based on who is willing to broadcast Friday night matches live. The AFL demands live broadcasts and Nine have said they would do that for Fridays (even though they didn’t in the past) and Seven are still keen on delayed broadcasts. So hopefully Seven looses the rights.

  20. Reilly June 26, 2010 at 11:44 am -

I think it should be mandatory in the AFL/NRL contracts that most games must be shown live and must be shown nationwide. Even if the ratings aren’t that good, it should be a condition that the networks must abide by.

I think if they do this, overtime, AFL numbers would be higher in Sydney and Brisbane and NRL numbers would be higher in Melbourne, Perth etc. This is because we would all see more exposure of these football games.

It’s just stupid that they have different things screening in different areas.

And there we have it, I hope Seven learnt somethign last night. Seven broadcast Friday night AFL live into Melbourne only and it rates better than the live NRL match. Simple fact is, the AFL wouldn’t have won if it wasn’t live, now all Seven need to do is broadcast it live into Adelaide and Perth and the ratings would be even higher no dought.

“I have no idea how people could watch brainless shows about T.V ads”

The things some people say on this forum. The Gruen Transfer is brainless but Hey Hey isn’t. Right…

    @Daniel
I hope Joannes not back, if anyone comes back i would like to see Skye and Jake. Can anyone tell me how Sea Patrol can higher than SVU. Sea patrol is badly scripted dribble, SVU has great writing and the cop duo o n TV

Gee its sooo good to see channel 7 bomb! Bout time people stopped watching the crap they have on, but where are all the people going? Ten should force mc upon oldies! sit them down with their eyes held open, Obviously oldies aren’t family people anymore and are more interested in lawn bowls. I curse at my grandmother when she talks it down when she hasnt even seen it.

    @Ryan
I noticed this too. I did say earlier that I read somewhere Phillip is in and Alvin is here for a while. Gary said: “This exercise is about shaking the tree”. That might suggest interrupting the finalists. And from the advanced guide Monday is a day of learning how to critique and use a well trained pallet. That’s a mystery considering Mondays is pressure test night! It might be a way of boosting the returnees into the high level, everyone else is with.

after 6 episodes in a row of glee were series highs it is now down 100k. was the hamish&andy special scheduling to blame?

very low ratings for the world cup, very little interest compared to 2006.
very bad ratings for BH&G in melbourne, i noticed a facebook campaign telling footy fans to watch it, obviously ddn’t work. i doubt 7 will be rushing to make that a permanent thing like many were suggesting.

i have to respectfully disagree with Adam’s comments about Sky News. I found their coverage addictive, compelling and with lots of great interview talent as well as comment on the unfolding changes in the government. I too turned to Kerry O’Brien and was equally impressed with his coverage too. The young guys at Sky are doing a great job in my humble opinion. Kieran & David deserve their accolades.

Glees officially a smash hit for TEN – all it needed was the support of a high rating show in MC to get it going.

Compared to last week channels 7, 9 and 10 were down 158,000 viewers in Melbourne at 7:30. The 7:30 Report was up 154,000 viewers (75% increase).
When saying the BH&G ratings where poor, add 50,000 and you would be around what it would have got on a normal Thursday nights.
Also the ratings would have been hurt by people not being aware or not remembering about the change of nights, if this was a permanent change it wouldn’t be a problem

I think i noticed in the masterchef promo for sunday there were alot of work benches, so maybe a few come back to compete to get back into it

  32. Daniel June 25, 2010 at 12:01 pm -

    @ Stephen.
Wait for the twist on Sunday. Joanne could return. I remember last year Justine left Hong Kong and then less than a week later she’s back in! I read somewhere, Phillip was in and Alvin is in for a while as well. Maybe Johnno is sticking in for while too and Jo just had to go, as part of eliminations, then return? Lets hope she’s ousted for good and Johnno is next!

The BH&G Figures in Melbourne are terrible and probably end all hope of AFL fans getting Friday night footy live in Melbourne more often…

Are the figures adjusted to represent the programming changes though? Because Home and Away is also well down being on half an hour late.

Well Im certainly not quiet when It comes to Hey Hey , I still think it’s must watch T.V and I enjoy It each week , I have no idea how people could watch brainless shows about T.V ads and chef wannabes over light hearted live programs .

Tv was all over the shop last night especially 7. I did miss Cougar Town and saw the end of FF and knew it was a rushed ending. But I did enjoy the series. It seems Sunrise was the choice for breakfast show for people to tune into for even for melbourne where they rarely win about Julia becoming PM.

Great to see 7.30Report rate better than Home&Away, Today Todnight & A Current Affair!

It only took the biggest news story of the year! and won only just!

If only the ABC news channel had started a little bit earlier. I switched on Sky News but the coverage was garbage. Had to wait for Lateline for decent coverage.

  38. Craig June 25, 2010 at 7:33 am -

What happened to the schedules last night, Seven kept their onscreen guide up dated but Nine didn’t, they went into Getaway with an extended ACA but then Sea Patrol started on time (for Nine).

Eye spy interesting comment re:Daryl updating the show. This is what i have always believed. You can have the same show but with an updated feel, something a little more mature, more in the variety style, rather than the comic book look of so many years. It is not too late to make changes.

@ Harry: marion is a hell good cook, but i wouldnt say at all that callum is anywhere near her potential

  41. stephen June 24, 2010 at 10:14 pm -

See MC passed the 2 mil mark. Great episode with a touch of the amazing race. Hey Hey needs to go, not even cracking 1 mil, Great to see Joanne outed on MC tonight hope jonathon is next, The rest of the contestants are great. But go marion!

  42. darryn June 24, 2010 at 10:11 pm -

Go 7 and 9, good to see you will be leaving 10 in the dirt at the end of the week…for the 6026 week in a row :P

  43. Guy June 24, 2010 at 9:29 pm -

Bring back Criminal Minds on Wednesday and do it pronto. I mean this show was doing 1.3m with new episodes and now the show in its place is doing just over 1/2 those numbers. Its a stupid decision to wait.

  44. Eye Spy June 24, 2010 at 7:51 pm -

I don’t watch the current Hey Hey but feel for the cast as it is obviously doomed and at least it provided work for local show biz bods. Word has it that Daryl Somers wanted to update the format to make it more relevant but was knocked back by guess who. Those who know best-the carpet strollers. Must be nice to earn $250,000 a year and continually stuff up!

  45. Dino June 24, 2010 at 7:44 pm -

lulz, the Hey Hey fanbois have been awfully quiet lately. Can’t blame them, there’s no way to defend those pathetic figures.

  46. damo June 24, 2010 at 7:07 pm -

because it’s rubbish and no one watches it

  47. Craig June 24, 2010 at 6:47 pm -

Wow Ten the clear winner last night, with 7&9 equal 2nd. Good to see MC break 2 million!

  48. Goonies June 24, 2010 at 6:37 pm -

7 news in Perth is for the lowest common denominator and there are plenty of those here in WA which is why it and TT are so darn popular.

Did 10 interrupt programming twice? I ask as JB says Lie to Me was interrupted but in our house it was Masterchef. There was no part of Tara missed in our house either ? Or is it due to time diff?

  49. Ja'mie June 24, 2010 at 6:32 pm -

@ Anon. The Morning Show was well ahead of KAK, it just isn’t listed.

    The Morning Show 167,000
    KAK 107,000
    Ten News 74,000
    The Circle 61,000

What do -Ev and -Le denote for yesterday’s ABC shows?

  51. Harry June 24, 2010 at 4:12 pm -

MC cracks 2 mill – I really love the show but hate it how the judges show bias towards certain conestants. So they pair up the 2 strongest cooks (Marion/Callum) together – even it out a bit.

    no cougar town tonight?
