Aussie Drama reruns

City Homicide and Rescue Special Ops get "Encores", make that Reruns, on Seven and Nine.

Two of our dramas get “Encores”, make that Reruns, on Seven and Nine.

City Homicide, which only averaged 936,000 for two episodes last night, will be repeated Wednesday July 21 at 12pm.

The figures for last night were disappointing. In 2007 it premiered with 1.65m, in 2008 it launched on 1.61m and in 2009 it did 1.36m.

All Saints was axed on figures above that, as was Always Greener. The average figures would have been higher if Seven had coded as separate episodes with OzTAM.

Next Monday night’s Rescue Special Ops has already been set for an “Encore” 3pm in Sydney and Brisbane, and at 4:30pm in Melbourne on Sunday July 25th.

How do you get an “Encore” when you haven’t even given your first performance?

  1. I would have checked out City Homicide last night if it wasn’t on same time as Hey Hey, so it’s good that they’re doing a re-run.

  2. Some rough seas ahead for City Homicide I think. To only pull 936,000 viewers for a heavily hyped series return episode that featured the departure of a long term cast member and the addition of star power with Georgie Parker cannot be a good sign. I would think that this alone would have drawn the audience towards City Homicide, as it was just another night for Hey, Hey, Spicks and Specks etc. It will be interesting to see how it performs over the next couple of weeks post the Hey, Hey finale next week. Like it or loathe it we all need to get behind our Aussie drama’s, actors and talent behind the scenes.

Good to see Rescue Special Ops audience growing.

  3. Wish we could know about these encores beforehand, as it would help on nights where PVR conflicts for shows not repeated means you end up deciding not to watch them on the night, and then possibly not ever again.

  4. City Homicide has been moved around the schedule alot, it needs to stay in a timeslot and maintain some consistency for it to maintain good numbers.

All Saints was axed because of high costs, there were cast that had been with the show for nearly a decade, if not more, you’d expect high production costs because of it. I’m sure all the medical equipment and other medically related costs were cheap either, ER cost nearly $15m per episode in the late 90s.

Always Greener was hailed as Channel Seven’s saviour and what not, it was meant to catapult Seven into first place, it had an all star cast and the full support of Channel Seven, if it could only pull 1.1-1.2m viewers with all the backing behind it, at the time 1.6m viewers meant that you were about the 10th most watched show, it was never going to stay on the schedule.

  5. Seven made a stupid decision to axe All Saints. I have been saying this ever since i found out that it was axed. All Saints should never have been given the chop. I was surprised when it happened and still am surprised. It was Sevens #2 Aussie Drama and look at whats happened now.
