Chaser election specials “a done deal.”

An ABC spokesperson says 'the deal has been done' on the Chaser boys returning to take on the upcoming election.

Further to an earlier report that the Chaser boys are set to tackle the upcoming election, an ABC spokesperson tells The Age ‘the deal has been done.’

It follows Chas Licciardello recently telling Nova that the boys were ready to go. At the time he said a contract hadn’t been signed.

But plans had to be tweaked after the Labor Party replaced Kevin Rudd with Julia Gillard as leader.

An election comedy on the ABC will be matched by The Gruen Nation, which also announced its intention this week to dissect the various campaigns.

This will be the fourth election for the Chaser boys.

  1. Excellent news. Maybe a person can get some balanced viewing come election night. Sad state of The country’s media, when your most informed and balanced show comes from a bunch of half witted. ( i use that term in a complimentary way) comedians

  2. Top news. But a couple of things…

@Karen – they took the piss out of Rudd plenty of times. ‘Detailed programmatic specificity’ comes to mind…

And @Kirk – their show wasn’t canceled, they just decided not to do another series.

    Thankyou, that is all.

  3. Thank God – though that Julia Gillard youtube clip from the much-maligned ‘Double Take’ is about the funniest thing I’ve seen in a long time (the kind of thing I wished The Chaser had done in their rather sour last season).

  4. What was with Chas’s awkward, completely unfunny and pointless contribution to Good Game’s report with Ajax this week? Seemed a bit desperate for attention, to me.

While ‘Bindi’s guest-host role on Good Game the previous week was interesting…but misfired.

  5. One of the main causes of The Chaser’s downfall with their show, is that they couldn’t bring themselves to criticise the Rudd Labour government, even though there was a lot they could’ve worked with.
