Rove to keep chair warm for Craig Ferguson?

Update: Both Rove McManus and Craig Ferguson deny there are any plans for the Aussie host to fill in on the US chat show.

Management for Rove McManus have watered down suggestions that he will fill in for 6 weeks on The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson during the US summer.

The Daily Telegraph reports McManus has inked a deal with David Letterman’s production company World Wide Pants.

The move is apparently a “test” to see how he is received by US audiences.

But management responded with “Not that I’m aware,” to the claims.

McManus is currently busy with Say It Now, which also features American actress Valerie Bertinelli.

Update: Rove on Twitter: No truth to “reports” @rove1974 and @craigyferg are swapping seats. Besides, that’s how you get pregnant.

Craig Ferguson on Twitter: I hope reports I’m being replaced by an Australian are false. CBS would never allow a foreigner to do the show. Or would they? Oh no!

I”m not taking a six week vacation. There is no guest host. . Cocaine is not addictive. #sometimestheinternetcontainsuntruths.

  1. If Ten pulled their fingers out on their 3rd digital channel, that’d be the best place to slot Craig’s show.

Keeping in mind David Letterman and not CBS, actually owns Craig’s show, he’d probably have to agree to it and he probably doesn’t even know who Rove even is.

  2. hmm, is cbs looking to make the same kind of mistakes as nbc with late night? nothing against rove, here in the states few have heard of him, including myself, but come on, replace craig?! hasnt craigs spike in popularity here proven that we are sick of the static, predictable, stuffed phone it in type talk show? i hate talk shows, but then craig isnt a “talk show”. who knows, we are all powerless to the mighty corporations anyway so doesnt matter what we think. but ya better not take away our craig or face the robot skeleton army

  3. Craig Ferguson is one of the funniest talk show hosts around at the moment.

Every time I see reports about Rove going over there for a talk show, I get worried. He’s great in Australia, but his schtick just wouldn’t work in America. American talk show hosts are so much more about improv whereas Rove has so much reliance on written jokes. Not to mention Australian humour seems so much more in-your-face, almost lowbrow.

  4. Someone should bring Craig Ferguson to FTA TV. The guy is quite funny and the show makes for good light entertainment. For all I care, America can have Rove. If they’re silly enough to reproduce Kath & Kim, they can be silly enough to have Rove.

  5. rove needs a new show here, a new format. His comedy will never work over there, they have such different taste to us aussies, i mean just watch letterman to see that

  6. Nice try Rove.

Craig posted on his Twitter account (@CraigyFerg):

“I hope reports I’m being replaced by an Australian are false. CBS would never allow a foreigner to do the show. Or would they? Oh no!”

    And

“I”m not taking a six week vacation. There is no guest host. . Cocaine is not addictive. #sometimestheinternetcontainsuntruths.”

  7. Wow. Rove certainly punches above his weight. I hope he does well. Lots of Aussie exports have failed in the US recently.

And yes, Craig Ferguson should be on Australian television. If the Comedy Channel are looking for someone to fill Conan’s shoes, he’s perfect.

  8. Good luck to Rove..he’ll have nmany fresh ideas for the US market as he did some wonderful outside broadcast comedy involving the public when he did Rove Live
