Sam Newman accused of abuse in road rage case

Update: Sam Newman was found guilty of wilful damage and using indecent language, fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $302 compensation.

In a road rage courtcase today against AFL Footy Show‘s Sam Newman, a woman said she was verbally abused by the Nine star.

Hannah Zafar said she parked beside Newman’s car in July 2009, which had been parked over the demarcating line in Armstrong Street, Middle Park,  but accidentally tapped his vehicle when opening the car door.

“He got out of the car and started yelling at me. I didn’t have a chance to apologise. He was calling me names, I was shocked,” she told the Melbourne Magistrates Court.

When she walked away she heard a bang, and later found a dent in her door.

A Melbourne Barrister serving as a witness says he was sitting at a cafe when he saw Newman forcibly push his Mustang door into her car.

Newman, who is fighting charges of wilfully causing damage, using insulting words and failing to park properly, arrived late for the hearing and said he would have to apologise to the court.

UPDATE: Newman was found guilty in the Melbourne Magistrates Court of wilful damage and using indecent language when he called a woman a “bitch” for hitting his parked car with her car door. He was fined $3,000 and ordered to pay $302 compensation.

As he left court an unknown woman made gestures and pulled faces at Newman yelling “Sam! Sam! Street Talk” among other things. She later kicked him in the leg, before being taken away by protective service officers.
