Seven signs Graham Richardson

By David Knox on July 22, 2010 / Filed Under News 13

Channel Seven has signed former Labor Party numbers man Graham Richardson.

Richardson will be a political analyst for Seven across the network’s news and public affairs programmes.

He will play a key role in Seven’s election coverage and beyond.

Richardson’s first appearance on Seven will be on Sunrise tomorrow.

Seven’s Director of News and Public Affairs, Peter Meakin, said: “Richo is the best possible recruit at the best possible time. We are stoked.”

Richardson said: “As a great woman once said ‘we’re moving forward’. I am delighted to join up with Seven.”

This dude as a political analyst? As mentioned before me, he has pretty much zero credibility or ethics.
Wait .. maybe he will be able to offer some useful insight into election coverage …

Richo selected for his unbiased coverage….. hardly

Kerry O’Brien on 7.30 Report is ex labor staffer.

Former Politicians and Staffers should be banned from media outlets, so we at least get balance

Well this has just made Seven look worse in my view – how could they go with such a corrupt politician – not that there’s many Labor pollies who aren’t. ;)

@ David S – You are funny. I laughed out loud! Couldn’t agree more.
You’ve answered your own question anyway – Peter Meakin runs news/caff after all.

That’s a shame, I watched 9′s coverage of the calling of the election and the best bit of the day with the Liberal Numbers man (I can’t remember his name.) and Richardson arguing with Laury Oakes about the question Oakes had put to the PM about the night of the spill. It turned into an actual political debate on a commercial network god help us…

The Today presenters were left looking like what they are, good looking dills who can only read off a promter.

With all that has come out about this guy over the years since he left politics how could anyone with even a skerrik of decency put him on TV?

I’m amazed he can take the time out from his battle with the ATO, sitting on his Swiss bank accounts and working for various “property developers” to comment on the election. Perhaps he should take a nice relaxing harbour cruise to get himself in the mood…

@Madame Tango, history tells me that actors make terrible politicians. Two words: Ronald Reagan.

Prefer Laurie Oaks on Nine – 46 years experience and has been on TV for what seems like forever. Can’t beat that.

This is a very good reason to avoid Seven.

And his second appearance will be on Q & A next Monday……?

Is it true that after spending so much money on Master Chef Ten have hired the guy who played Richo in the Hawke series to head up their political coverage?
Loving the coverage so far – local paper covered the major “clash of dates” – yep the election falls on the same day as the Banana Festival! (actually this is the same paper that debated not putting the death of Princess Di on the front as it was the day the Banana Festival queen was crowned)lol.
