ELEVEN to launch in early 2011

Updated: Neighbours, Dexter, Futurama, Supernatural, Stargate, Smallville, Nurse Jackie, 90210 are all coming to ELEVEN -and more News on TEN.

TEN has confirmed it will launch its new digital multichannel, ELEVEN early next year.

The new SD channel promises ‘fun and bold programming with particular appeal to the distinctly youthful market.’

It will air all-new episodes of Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie, 90210 and more.

It will also be the free-to-air home of the iconic The Simpsons.

Neighbours will also move to ELEVEN leaving question marks about the Network’s plans for local content on TEN. It will remain at 6:30pm weeknights.

Chief programming officer David Mott said: “Neighbours is an important and cherished member of the Network Ten family.

“We believe Neighbours is perfectly suited to ELEVEN’s audience strategy and will find a successful and enduring home on ELEVEN. We will round out the first 25 years with a bang, and give Australia’s most successful drama a new home to keep it vibrant in the schedule for the next 25.”

FremantleMedia Australia CEO, Ian Hogg said: “Just as Neighbours forged new territory for TEN in 1986, so we will again for ELEVEN in 2011. We are very proud of the faith being placed in Neighbours and the key role we will be playing in ELEVEN’s launch and line-up. Our storyline plans for 2011 are both bold and dramatic. Neighbours fans have much to look forward to for many years to come.”

Shifting Neighbours and The Simpsons signals changes for TEN’s early evening line-up. Following from News at Five bulletins, TEN will introduce a new half-hour national news-based program at 6.00 pm weeknights targeting viewers seeking a smarter, more informed, considered and insightful approach to the stories, issues, events and news-makers of the day.

Then at 6.30pm weeknights and at 6.00pm weekends, TEN will present a half-hour locally-presented and produced news service in all markets, focussing on the key issues in each State.

ELEVEN will also draw upon more than 70,000 hours of content from CBS’s library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver, to name a few.

In addition, Network Ten Pty Limited and CBS Studios International announced the proposed formation of a joint venture, ElevenCo Pty Limited (ElevenCo), which will provide content to ELEVEN. Network Ten will hold 66 2/3 per cent equity in ElevenCo, with CBS Studios Inc. holding a 33 1/3 per cent share.

As part of the arrangement to form the proposed joint venture, CBS has agreed to extend its existing long-term output deal with Network TEN.

CEO Grant Blackley said: “CBS Studios is a leading producer of quality programming for the global marketplace. In addition to its successful pipeline of content to the CBS network, which has been the lead network in the US for the last 8 out of 10 years, CBS produces content for the youth-targeted network, the CW. Our established output deal with CBS has been long and fruitful, delivering hits such as NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Rules of Engagement, Medium, The Good Wife and the much-anticipated Hawaii Five-0 to Australian audiences.”

“Importantly, the joint venture will ensure long term continuity of this prolific US content pipeline, underpinning the sustainability of ELEVEN and also delivering continued supply of high quality international programming for TEN.

“ELEVEN will deliver a distinct destination for Australian consumers and advertisers. The channel’s ‘distinctly youthful’ focus will be well suited to fostering a strong level of online community and social media engagement, and the format will provide opportunities for a high level of sponsor integration – such as segment and program hostings – delivered in ways that will resonate with ELEVEN’s audience,” Mr Blackley said.

ELEVEN will replace ONE SD.

  1. This is very good news can’t wait for Smallville, Supernatural, Stargate Universe, Dexter. I think it will be out at least late January when Neighbours start but will regional viewers getting on ch55 like what we are with 7mate on channel 63?

  2. Sounds good.

I look forward to watching Futurama, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office and Nurse Jackie. BUT Ten/Eleven will really need to ensure they try to get up-to-date with a lot of these shows as soon as possible in 2011 (perhaps by screening “marathons” of older seasons) otherwise I’m sure fans will just find other ways to see the “new” episodes (shortly after they screen in the US).

The new “news” line-up on Ten also sounds promising – it would be great to have an alternative to the dumbed-down news/current affairs shows on 7 and 9 (other than ABC of course which still provides good news, but need to change their schedule to really compete).

  3. Cool logo.

So TEN are trying to become more serious. Good for them!! I agree with the previous poster – “Seriously” needs to go.

I really hope ELEVEN shows Melrose Place 2.0

Also, ELEVEN could have a classic night – Saturday maybe – where they show the awesome episodes from the 90’s of Melrose Place and BH90210. I’d cetainly be watching

  4. This is bloody brilliant so many FTA channels now as soon as my discounted foxtel ends in Jan 2011 I’ll be disconnecting it, who needs foxtel with all these new channels coming 🙂

  5. so neighbours moving to 11? which means it will probably be gone from tv in the next 10 years. Its not gonna rate 650,000 on the digital channel im sure.

the problem with the digital channels is that it dilutes the range of content, I doubt(as someone said) that it will double Go’s ratings, its content is no better than Go’s, and since they put all the good stuff on 10, it wouldnt be able to sustain that over the whole night anyway.

But i think the channel is a good idea, they probably should have announced this earlier than Mate was, come out earlier than 2011, or even better- they should have came up with this idea in the first place!

  6. @Hank – other than the logo and a target demographic, there’s not much here that’s similar between the two networks.

Skins and Dead Set are on SBS, The Inbetweeners on GO! and the only shows the two networks seem share are The Cleveland Show and Smallville, with the possibility of Glee.

With the big launch titles of Eleven being The Simpsons and Neighbours this has much more in common with Ten itself than it does with e4, other than an aesthetically similar logo of course.

  7. Finally!
I hope thats all new 90210 as well, but they’ll still be a season and a half behind, so i guess no reason to get excited 🙁
Ten to buy Gossip Girl. They’d show is consistently, like with The OC…

  8. GO! takes out 7TWO in the first round of ‘Digital Wars’. Next up, 7mate is in the ring against ELEVEN and a new opponent from Nine…….let the games begin!!! Ding Ding.

  9. See Ten have actually seemed to have planned their channels unlike Seven and Ine who have seemed to hurridly put togteher channels against each other just to get ahead. I can see this doing really well for TEN, a deal with CBS will help to fund this nicely.

I would also like to see any conflicting sports on ONE end up on this channel occassionally. I know it won’t happen but occasionally with some of the sports they show in the morning, there is clashes, such as a NASCAR race at 4am in the mroning with the NFL, don’t see the harm in using both channels if clashes does happen like it can.

  10. @ Garion – Big Bang and Two and a Half Men are not produced by CBS they are produced by Warner Bros but air on CBS – when Ten has output deals with CBS they only get shows produced by CBS not shows aired on the CBS channel in the US – NBC produce shows which are aired on CBS, FOX etc like wise with FOX producing shows like Modern Family which airs on ABC; the networks in America are as much production houses as they are networks.

  11. What about Army Wives ??
I think there is no need for Frasier and Judging Amy to be on this channel.
Sex and the city reruns will be popular if you don’t have Arena.
Finally The Office and 90210 are scheduled !!
Now we just have to wait til next year !!

  12. @Alex T: Yes, it so does remind me of e4 frmo the UK.

Everyone: One SD will be gone for good on all platforms, being an FTA digital receiver, and Foxtel, Austar.
I dont know how many times people have to be reminded that the commercial networks can only have 2x SD and 1x HD channels. When you see additonal channels like ‘7 Digital 4’ on your TV, this is not another available channel, this is another logical channel number that the network owns and is taking the same stream from the primary SD channel.
