ELEVEN to launch in early 2011

Updated: Neighbours, Dexter, Futurama, Supernatural, Stargate, Smallville, Nurse Jackie, 90210 are all coming to ELEVEN -and more News on TEN.

TEN has confirmed it will launch its new digital multichannel, ELEVEN early next year.

The new SD channel promises ‘fun and bold programming with particular appeal to the distinctly youthful market.’

It will air all-new episodes of Futurama, The Cleveland Show, Supernatural, Stargate, Dexter, Smallville, The Office, Nurse Jackie, 90210 and more.

It will also be the free-to-air home of the iconic The Simpsons.

Neighbours will also move to ELEVEN leaving question marks about the Network’s plans for local content on TEN. It will remain at 6:30pm weeknights.

Chief programming officer David Mott said: “Neighbours is an important and cherished member of the Network Ten family.

“We believe Neighbours is perfectly suited to ELEVEN’s audience strategy and will find a successful and enduring home on ELEVEN. We will round out the first 25 years with a bang, and give Australia’s most successful drama a new home to keep it vibrant in the schedule for the next 25.”

FremantleMedia Australia CEO, Ian Hogg said: “Just as Neighbours forged new territory for TEN in 1986, so we will again for ELEVEN in 2011. We are very proud of the faith being placed in Neighbours and the key role we will be playing in ELEVEN’s launch and line-up. Our storyline plans for 2011 are both bold and dramatic. Neighbours fans have much to look forward to for many years to come.”

Shifting Neighbours and The Simpsons signals changes for TEN’s early evening line-up. Following from News at Five bulletins, TEN will introduce a new half-hour national news-based program at 6.00 pm weeknights targeting viewers seeking a smarter, more informed, considered and insightful approach to the stories, issues, events and news-makers of the day.

Then at 6.30pm weeknights and at 6.00pm weekends, TEN will present a half-hour locally-presented and produced news service in all markets, focussing on the key issues in each State.

ELEVEN will also draw upon more than 70,000 hours of content from CBS’s library, including Everybody Loves Raymond, Sex and the City, JAG, Frasier, Judging Amy, Happy Days and MacGyver, to name a few.

In addition, Network Ten Pty Limited and CBS Studios International announced the proposed formation of a joint venture, ElevenCo Pty Limited (ElevenCo), which will provide content to ELEVEN. Network Ten will hold 66 2/3 per cent equity in ElevenCo, with CBS Studios Inc. holding a 33 1/3 per cent share.

As part of the arrangement to form the proposed joint venture, CBS has agreed to extend its existing long-term output deal with Network TEN.

CEO Grant Blackley said: “CBS Studios is a leading producer of quality programming for the global marketplace. In addition to its successful pipeline of content to the CBS network, which has been the lead network in the US for the last 8 out of 10 years, CBS produces content for the youth-targeted network, the CW. Our established output deal with CBS has been long and fruitful, delivering hits such as NCIS, NCIS: Los Angeles, Rules of Engagement, Medium, The Good Wife and the much-anticipated Hawaii Five-0 to Australian audiences.”

“Importantly, the joint venture will ensure long term continuity of this prolific US content pipeline, underpinning the sustainability of ELEVEN and also delivering continued supply of high quality international programming for TEN.

“ELEVEN will deliver a distinct destination for Australian consumers and advertisers. The channel’s ‘distinctly youthful’ focus will be well suited to fostering a strong level of online community and social media engagement, and the format will provide opportunities for a high level of sponsor integration – such as segment and program hostings – delivered in ways that will resonate with ELEVEN’s audience,” Mr Blackley said.

ELEVEN will replace ONE SD.

    1. As usual New Channel = New Questions. You know me by now guys…. I am chasing this kind of detail.

TEN is hinting at unannounced dramas to address quota issue…. I reckon more telemovies or a miniseries might be in their thinking as they deliver more points than serials. But they may also press govt to change the regulations. TEN isn’t willing to say yet.

  1. Sounds great but it’s still a bit of a wait for shows like Supernatural to return, along with Futurama it will be a while before we catch up to the US. Time to save up for a new PVR with twin tuners.

  2. Hmm. So what is TEN going to do about it’s local drama points? And does Neighbours now become an (almost) offshore production for the UK? I can’t see it’s figures climbing on a secondary channel – people are lazy, they don’t necessarily follow.

  3. The Australian newspaper has done it again! Last week it revealed Seven would launch a new digital channel, then a few hours later Seven confirmed it would launch 7mate on September 25. Today the same paper said Ten would launch a new channel, and yes it was confirmed hours later also. The biggest surprise was Ten forming a joint venture with CBS Studios International to supply programming. During the 40 years Nine was CBS’ local affiliate they never considered forming a JV.
I do think 2.5 hours of news and current affairs on Ten is too much. It’s fine when there is a major event (such as the federal election), but during the quiet news days the new bulletins could be struggling to find content. There should be an alternative genre between 6pm and 7pm.

  4. Is it possible for Ch 10 to fast-track CH 11 to November this year?!

For those haven’t seen Smallville s8, the s8 dvd has been out here from months here & the s9 Dvd is out in the states in 2 weeks. S10 premieres in the States in Mid September.

Supernatural s5 – the dvd is out in the states in 2 weeks & here on October 27th. If Ch 10 shows that remaining eps of s5 next year, would be very foolish!. The sixth season of Spn premieres in the states mid next month!. Most aussie spn fans have had to download the eps from online, as they’ve lost faith in Ch 10’s unreliability to fully show the full season without being taken off for periods of more than 4 weeks!.

I also agree that Ch 11 should screen all CW shows as GO! bumps them off for more movies. most of the cw shows announced have already had a dvd releases (most of them will be released here or overseas) before ch 11 is on air.

    attn: ndro, there is a Channel 13th, & it’s a murder-mystery channel on foxtel (113)

  5. I think this will be successful especially when you see the content they are able to air (can we finally see Monk and Psych?)

Just like GO!, it has a direction that the network can stick too regarding what programming content they should air

  6. The Simpsons and MacGuyver together at last, Patty and Selma will be pleased!

The problem with this “exclusive home of” nonsense however is that until 2013 they have to simulcast any programs that appear on their analog channel on their main SD digital channel (TEN Digital) also, so either they play them on both TEN and ELEVEN digital simultaneously (what third channel?) or they use ELEVEN only for repeats of such shows until the analog switchoff is complete (as Nine are currently doing with 2 1/2 Men and Big Bang Theory on GO!). Or they could take some of their highest rating shows off the analog airwaves early, which seems a tad unlikely…

  7. 10 should’ve invested in this rather than One. The line-up looks good, but they’ll be soooo far behind the US that fans have probably already obtained these episodes months or (in Smallville’s case) years ago. The decision to launch next year will only put them further behind their target demographic’s viewing habits.

  8. Supernatural!!!! I mean, I’m still going to watch the episodes online, but I will watch them on TV as well. That’s the whole problem with is being cancelled – people would find the episodes online then boycott them on TV. Well, if you’re a true SN fan, you won’t mind seeing them on TV either.

And awesome for Stargate and Dexter, two shows that were sorely missed when they were screwed with on TEN.

  9. Hopefully the new seasons of Eureka (SyFy but they had it before) will make it to Eleven along with Monk and Psych (USA Network, however so are Burn Notice and White Collar), would also be great if they moved Letterman across and followed it with The Late Late Show with Craig Ferguson (both CBS shows).

    Sounds promising otherwise.

  10. not real sure of name and logo looks crappy
Ten should have ran a competition on new name and logo and then made a show on it to show on 11 launch. How cool would that be.

  11. Can someone please explain why they are having 2.5 hours of news every night ift you include 7PM Project??

    I think it should go:

    5.30 Ten News (State Based)
6.00 Ten National News (National) – they could also have panel discussion on National issues.
    7.00 Sports Tonight

I don’t know where 7PM would fix in – maybe 11PM Project?? If they’re schedule moves to a 8/9/10 system

  12. I believe the logo does stand on its own but does take “inspiration” from the e4 logo.
Doesn’t help its case that its using the same colour purple.
I do wonder it they are harking back to the 80s Ten logo..

I’ve put all 3 logos side by side for comparison

  13. I love my news but is 2 hours of news each night on 10 a bit too much? I suppose most people will pick and choose which of the news bulletins they will watch.
