Glee, iCarly, MasterChef, Twilight and Avatar are amongst the nominees vying for a win at the 2010 Kids’ Choice Awards.

Nickelodeon has announced nominees for the event which takes place on Friday October 8th.

After two years in Melbourne, this year the slime-fest will return to Sydney, to take place at the Sydney Entertainment Centre. The KCA’s attracts A-List stars and stages a mammoth live awards event, which garners wide media coverage and gauges how brands are resonating with Australian kids.

However the Nominee list is drawn up by Nickelodeon, which has put several of its own shows cor contention, including iCarly, and Camp Orange: Castle Mountain for Fave TV Show alongside Disney Channel’s Wizards Of Waverly Place and TEN’s Glee.

This overlooks numerous other titles on Free to Air and other Pay TV channels including MasterChef, Australia’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Dance Academy, Prank Patrol, Hey Hey it’s Saturday -to name a few.

Other categories pit entire casts alongside individuals for Fave TV Star, while Glee is even nominated as Fave International Band (surely it’s a TV show with a Soundtrack?).

  1. The only two I feel strongly about:

    Best Movie:
    Toy Story 3

    Best cartoon:
Avatar the last Airbender, but that ended 3 years ago, is the upcoming sequel put it in contention for an award?

  2. @Kuttsywood – i don’t think there is any evidence that the nominations are solely based on 2009 though – for example Adam and Callum from MasterChef getting a nomination, as well as 2010 films like Toy Story 3.

  3. “Glee is even nominated as Fave International Band (surely it’s a TV show with a Soundtrack?).”

didn’t they tour or something? But what’s the group’s name?

  4. I happen to know that the nominees list comes from kid research by Nickelodeon. It makes sense that the noms list has Nick shows in it , because they ask Nickelodeon viewers who their faves are.

Also David…re: the point you made about some FTV shows not getting a look-in…I think it’s fair to say that some of those shows wouldn’t be watched by Nickelodeon-aged kids (Gossip Girl?), while the more family friendly shows like MasterChef & Talkin Bout Your Generation do actually feature in the noms:

“This overlooks numerous other titles on Free to Air and other Pay TV channels including MasterChef, Australia’s Next Top Model, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries, Talkin’ ‘Bout Your Generation, Dance Academy, Prank Patrol, Hey Hey it’s Saturday -to name a few.”

  5. I guess the absence of ABC nominees is pretty much self explainable: ABC in 2009 wasn’t competing with Nick: This year they are with ABC 3, and pulling great ratings.

This also shows that the dominant brand, is not Nick, but the ABC, purely due to audience reach.

Great to see that the Oz KCA’s are coming home, to Sydney, possibly to celebrate the station’s 15th birthday in Australia, which is around two weeks after the KCA’s.
