Matt Passmore on the rise in US

Matt Passmore continues to impress in America in the lead role in A&E Network’s crime procedural The Glades.

One critic recently noted, “The South Florida-based crime procedural doesn’t break any new ground, but it’s intriguingly off-kilter and a good bit of fun. And series star Matt Passmore makes for an interesting lead. He’s the smoothie that would result from stuffing Dexter‘s Michael C. Hall, The Mentalist‘s Simon Baker and The Hurt Locker’s Jeremy Renner into a blender.

One fan asks TV Guide, “And talk about someone coming out of left field: Where did this amazing guy Matt Passmore come from? Because I know he is Australian, I’ll forgive his lack of a Chicago accent, but he has developed such an interesting and believable character (thank you also, writers) and is such a charismatic lead.”

Variety wrote a piece on his background too, saying he got his big break in Hollywood this year — Hollywood, Florida:

Passmore relocated from Queensland to south Florida to star in A&E Network’s crime procedural “The Glades.” It’s been an adjustment for the actor, who has been a staple on Oz TV for the past decade, but he’s found many similarities between Florida beach culture and what he left at home.

Passmore has been impressed by the array of seafood found in Florida eateries and the strong flavors of Cuban coffee.

On weekends he’s been out a few times to sports bars for the Alaskan king crab, to sushi places and for dancing with other “Glades” cast members, including Carlos Gomez.

“Carlos is trying to teach me Spanish and to salsa dance and failing at both,” Passmore says. “He’s a good salsa dancer, and I’m not.”

What also stands out in his mind is the strange behavior of the mercury in the Sunshine State.

“It’s kind of weird — Florida is the only place where the temperature goes up when the sun goes down,” Passmore quips. He also loves the scenery in an environment where “one minute a beautiful girl goes by, and the next minute, an 80-year-old woman with a Chanel (handbag) on her arm is trying to pick me up.”

  1. I remember seeing him in Last Man Standing and he was quite good in it, although I always preferred Rodger Corser. To say he’s like putting Michael C. Hall, Simon Baker and Jeremy Renner in a blender though? Nah, I think he’s got his own unique brand of charm.

  2. Not seen this show, but A&E is hardly the pinnacle of US TV. Seems like this is the only scripted show currently on their channel.

@chk: Saying an Australian actor was in Underbelly is hardly going to distinguish him (or her) – bit like ‘he’s the one with two eyes’.

  3. He was that guy from Underbelly 2 wasn’t he? Good on him though, hopefully The Glades gets an airing on FTA here in Oz, maybe Nine should pick it up as a filler for The Mentalist when it goes on break.

  4. It must be all about right place & time, because i do not see what they see.For me Matt is rather boring as an actor.Always suprised me that Sullivan Stapleton or Nathaniel Dean haven’t moved on further in their careers.By that i mean moving o/s.
