Returning: My First Gig

Kasey Chambers sits down with Jimmy Barnes to talk about early musical influences in a second season of his show for MAX.

Jimmy Barnes returns to host his series profiling Australian performers who reflect on their beginnings and eventual rise to fame.

Season Two of My First Gig comprises nine Australian musicians, who are  friends and contemporaries of Barnes.

Set against the intimate backdrop of his private home recording studio, the artists share their stories, culminating in a duet of a song which is both reminiscent and significant to the artist. For some, it is the first time they and Jimmy have performed together.

The Australian artists featured are: Kasey Chambers, Tim Rogers, Dave Faulkner, Nic Cester, Troy Cassar-Daley, Renee Geyer, Ian Moss, Brian Cadd and Glenn Shorrock.

My First Gig is narrated by Clare Bowditch with photographic images from Tony Mott.

Episode One: 1. Australia’s first lady of country music, Kasey Chambers sits down with Jimmy Barnes to talk about MY FIRST GIG. She talks about life on the Nullarbor as a child. Growing up, there was no television or radio, and the only music she heard was what her parents played, so this influenced her music greatly. Kasey also shares the story of a trip to Africa with her mum when she was a teenager. This was where she wrote most of her debut album,The Captain. She also talks about who the song “The Captain” was written about. Later, Jimmy Barnes and Kasey Chambers perform “If I Need You” by Emmylou Harris.

It premieres Tuesday 17 August at 9.30pm on MAX.
