Top Gear rolls on

Nine gets wise and decides to run a new Top Gear episode next week after all, followed by the Botswana special.

After getting good figures last night for a first-run Top Gear episode, Nine has opted NOT to sneak in a repeat next week and will now air a first-run episode after all.

Hurrah.

The Botswana special (which was set to air at 7:30pm followed by a repeat) will still air, now at the new time of 9pm. This has previously aired on SBS.

Clarkson, Hammond and May attempt to build cool and interesting motor homes before setting off for a long weekend to see how each of their creations performs in the real world. Meanwhile, the new Audi R8 V10 Spyder is tested against the latest version of Porsche’s enduring 911 Turbo cabriolet. Guest stars Andy Garcia.

  1. WTF? Did I wake up in Bizarro World? Is an asteroid about to crash into the Earth and Channel Nine’s programmer is trying to redeem themselves so that they can get into Heaven? Or is it Bodysnatchers in reverse and the automaton has been replaced by a human?

I suppose I should be thankful for this small mercy as TG is the only program on Nine that I actually watch on Nine.

  2. How brave of Channel Nine to run TWO new episodes in a row!! And after only … how many weeks of repeats have we had? I saw an episode on Nine not so long ago, allegedly new, that I saw over a year ago on a flight across the Tasman.

  3. Too little too late.
    They have already lost me.
They should have fast tracked it properly instead of waiting untill it completed the whole series in the UK.

  4. Smart idea as it will give Nine very solid numbers through to 10.10 and a much better % plus it will not risk the excellent numbers that new TG is now getting.

  5. At the end of the day we shouldn’t even need to be talking about this topic. It really should go without saying that once you start a series you continue with it until it is finished and not interupt it unnecessarily, it’s basic courtesy to the viewing public. I can’t see how it’s in any TV stations best interest to upset its viewers and effectively create hatred towards themselves… what do they think they’re politicians???

  6. Wow! nine must of read my comment about playing a new top gear episode then playing a repeat, this certainly show nine does read this site and it is a great idea, i haven’t seen the Botswana so it will be interesting to see what it’s like.

  7. Have to wonder if the Nine switchboard (or forums) had a melt down yesterday when the news came out?

Either way it’s good they changed their minds for the better this time!
