ABC is launching a new political programme on ABC News 24 to be hosted by Political Editor, Chris Uhlmann.

It will air at the (somewhat unusual) time of 5:30pm Fridays*.

Capital Hill will look at the week’s political events and news, as well as feature interviews with the key players on what’s been going on in Parliament House.

Uhlmann said, “It’s not politics as usual anymore. A divided nation has delivered a hung parliament and politics will be different – but it’s hardly likely to be kinder or gentler. So ABC News 24 has built a new program for the new paradigm. Each Friday we’ll unpick the news on the ‘Hill’ and talk to the people that make it.”

This week, ABC News 24 also began broadcasting Question Time live at 2-3.45pm (AEST) with Uhlmann as Presenter. It includes the official broadcast of the House of Representatives Question Time, as well as pre and post discussion with selected guests. It will air each day there is a House of Representatives Question Time.

Meanwhile SKY News broadcasts on-going coverage of both the House of Representatives on the A-PAC Channel (channel 648), and the Senate on A-PAC 2 (via red button).

* AEST Oct 1, AEDT thereafter.

  1. Odd choice of time. Here in the west we’re lumbered with Stateline at 7.30pm on a Friday, which really fails to fizz most weeks, so I would have thought that was a perfect time to do a round up of the political week that was.

  2. At 5:30pm EST, I hope they offer it on iView or ABC News Online to watch later. It will be even worse for Robbie when he does the math. 🙂

Capital Hill also pushes up Contact Sport to 7:30pm & One Plus One to 8:30pm Friday nights. But don’t worry people, the ancient & un-newsworthy Australian Story episodes will still air in place of the recent & newsworthy Four Corners at 10:30pm.
