Dateline goes on the path of Ugandan war criminal Joseph Kony this Sunday night.

This Sunday on Dateline Video journalist Aaron Lewis becomes the first-ever reporter to accompany the Ugandan army as it goes on the hunt through the jungles of central Africa for wanted war criminal Joseph Kony, rebel leader of the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA).

Aaron spends three days in the immense and dense jungle as the army attempts to lure Kony and his men into a trap. Kony’s famed mystical powers of evading capture are put to the test, and his absolute brutality is on display when two young girls, kidnapped, beaten and raped by Kony, are rescued by the Ugandan army. This is a fascinating story which tries to explain how such a terrible man, doing such terrible things to his people, has managed to evade capture for more than 20 years.

In the wake of three Australian soldiers being court martialled for their actions in Afghanistan, Dateline will replay an edited version of Questions From Oruzgan, the story that aired earlier this year and gave the first Afghan account of that tragic night-time operation.

And finally, video journalist Yalda Hakim catches up with Iranian lawyer Mohammad Mostafaei, who’s now in exile in Norway after he risked his life by speaking out against Tehran’s planned stoning of a woman. This profile shows Mohammad in intimate surroundings with his wife and child, as well as following his continued efforts to stop human rights abuses in Iran.

It airs 8:30pm Sunday on SBS ONE.
