Ex Factor: Rachael Taylor applies for AVO

An application for an apprehended violence order against Matthew Newton was lodged on behalf of actress Rachael Taylor today.

An application for an apprehended violence order (AVO) against Matthew Newton was lodged on behalf of actress Rachael Taylor at the Downing Centre Local Court in Sydney today.

Lawyer Christine Nash told reporters Taylor will return to Australia next month and wants to prevent the former X Factor host from coming into contact with her.

The application follows an alleged assault by Newton in Rome.

“She’s very distressed about the events and it takes a while to get over what just happened so I don’t think you could say that she’d be feeling particularly happy at the moment,” Ms Nash said.

“She’s coming back to Australia so she has fears for her safety so she wanted to make sure that she took out an order that prevented him from approaching her,” she added.

“She’s got everybody’s support.”

Newton’s solicitor Chris Murphy had requested through Nash to have the court order served to his offices, but the court rejected the claim and has insisted the papers be directed to Newton.

The matter was held over to September 22 in Downing Centre Local Court.

Ms Nash added, “She’s the victim here. She’s a lovely girl and she’s not done anything wrong.”
