Run for the ratings

Week 38 was a close tussle between Seven and Nine, but in the end Nine took glory thanks to the performance of GO!

By Friday there was little separating the two until Seven stormed home with a huge 39% share thanks to the AFL. On Saturday TEN also caused an upset with football pushing Seven to third place for the night  -enough to see Nine take the night and the week.

The TEN Network saw three nights beaten by the four-channel ABC, but it’s MasterChef brand saved the day with a stunning 2.2m viewers for the premiere of Junior MasterChef, while the network rolled around the country telling advertisers it would warm up 2011 with feelgood family telly.

Actually important to note that looking beyond the confusion of these new digital channels, more people watched Seven (24.5) than NIne (24.3) last week.

@ Andrew … I think U will find GEM will be on the air before 7mate

“The TEN Network saw three nights beaten by the four-channel ABC, but it’s MasterChef brand saved the day”

    Saved them from what?

Maybe it saved them from “complete and utter humiliation” instead of just “complete Humiliation”………..

Home page clearly says Nine won the week, but 2.2m for a premiere episode was the real story of the week.

I don’t get it. Ten comes a distat third but you’d swear they won going off the home page.

Can’t see why 7 coming third on Saturday was an upset either seeing 9 and 10 had NRL and AFL finals on.

Anyone who couldn’t see that being the Saturday result needs help.

In terms of weeks won it is Nine: 15, Seven: 14 and Ten: 1.

However Nine includes Winter Olympics figures which may change the results

Wow, David and Ronnie sure are putting an interesting spin on Ten coming third for the week by a country mile.

I can never understand how Nine wins the ratings. The Only time, without exception, that I watch Nine is when Survivor airs.

hey david when were these sneak peaks on nine

    73 Sneak Peek The Boss Is Coming To Dinner Nine 727,000 459,000 *** 268,000 *** ***
    100 Sneak Peek Nine 555,000 *** 555,000 *** *** ***

So Runs did beat Cops in the final numbers.

TEN really needs that 3rd general entertainment channel and they need it now, not sometime in 2011!

  11. Andrew September 19, 2010 at 12:57 pm -

Next sunday’s ratings result will be interesting with 7mate on the scene and the following week GEM

Both Nine and Seven seem a bit lost don’t they? Whatever hope David Leckie held for Seven to be the number one network has been totally squandered by their inability to take the lead programming prime time Sunday and Monday night . Rafters is the only really strong offering Seven has – they better hope it keeps delivering in 2011. The fact that Nine is so close is because Michael Healy has the courage, but not the product. Nine have 3 samey, mediocre Aussie dramas in SP, RSO and LAC that should be highlights of the sked, but are really letting them down – but how can a commissioning process allow 3 identical dramas to be produced in a year? The audience is way more discerning than this. GO! is wallpapering over these cracks, and GEM will in fact make things worse for Nine’s main channel as women realise how badly served they are at Nine. They both need fresh, new and intelligent product – the same old crap year after year (City Homicide!) doesn’t cut it.

What does the yearly battle between the networks stand at?
