Thanks for that David. Was much earlier in the night than I would’ve expected. At least now I know which day the 3am NFL game counts towards. :-)

  2. the facts September 14, 2010 at 10:51 am -

    Ryano “victorian handball is #1″
Sure is ryano, so much so that C10 finished 3rd in the ratings on sat night. thats how much vicball rules this country.
Nick RE: union – what you forgot to mention was that C9 paid 40% Less then what C7 did for the whocarabies friendly games, plus I sure C9 are not going to show yawnion games on the main channel. It doesn’t rate.

  3. David Knox September 13, 2010 at 3:41 pm -

Yeah that will be Rage in the morn. Ratings cut off at 2am.

  4. Donald September 13, 2010 at 3:16 pm -

David, “Rage: Special”, I presume is referring to Saturday morning (actually the tail-end of their Friday night broadcast) when they have the guest programmer preview? I’ve not seen rage appear in the list here before, and not sure how they code all their different timeslots..

Also, is there a specific time that cuts off the end of the previous day and starts the new, like 6am for example, or does it depened on what’s on? One’s “Monday marathon” of NFL starts at 3:45am, so I would expect that first game to show up as part of Sunday night’s figures? rage timeslots also fall into this category of course. :-) I was wondering this during the World Cup too, but didn’t get around to asking at the time.

    Thanks.

  5. Sarah September 13, 2010 at 2:37 am -

    Thank you Jarred.

Wasn’t the AFL live in all five States on the Ten Network? Excluding Melbourne who was half hour late.

If that is the case, how is it a fair comparison to NRL when it was only live in two States? Am I missing something?

  6. Jarred September 12, 2010 at 10:14 pm -

    @ Sarah
Well in Adelaide, Melbourne and Perth it wasn’t because the AFL match was live in SA and WA and 30min delayed in Melbourne. NRL wasn’t even on at all last night I don’t think, if it was, it would’ve been at ridiculous hours of the morning.

  7. Sarah September 12, 2010 at 9:06 pm -

Can anyone tell me if the NRL was live in Melbourne, SA , WA and Tasmania last night?

  8. docbrown September 12, 2010 at 6:56 pm -

So Week 1 & Week 2 of the AFL finals are down a total of 300,000+ capital city viewers compared to last year and set to get worse with remaining all Victorian matches lined up.

Anybody who declares an AFL victory on Saturday is a moron. See the comments below.

As for the Bledisloe, well… that was beaten by Heartbeat on Seven Two.

  9. ryan September 12, 2010 at 6:24 pm -

masterchef prediction- 1.2-1.4 anything higher would be bloody awesome

  10. Nick September 12, 2010 at 4:59 pm -

“yawnion’s days as a primary channel sport are over.”

Wrong. Nine only recently acquired the rights. TEN put in a better bid but FOX blocked them.

“fact is the rugby yawnion is up S#%^ creek without a paddle.”

This is wrong too. News Corp just paid half a billion dollars for the Super rugby competition and Tri-Nations. Featuring primarily on Nine and FOX, rugby will be up the same creek as the NRL.

  11. pearljammer September 12, 2010 at 4:31 pm -

Yeah cant deny the facts, Australian viewers much prefer AFL. The ratings say so!! ;)

    Dont blame em either!

  12. the facts September 12, 2010 at 3:58 pm -

    Nick: RE: rugby

fact is the rugby yawnion is up S#%^ creek without a paddle.
it wasn’t look ago that auz v NZ games were averaging 1.M in the 5 capitals, Now it cant get 20% of the past audience.

yawnion’s days as a primary channel sport are over. its No more than a niche sport destined 4ever to be shown on secondary channel/pay TV.

  13. Nick September 12, 2010 at 3:14 pm -

“It’s time AFL and Rugby Union were taken off TV”

Pffft…Rugby is shown on half a dozen different networks. Nine has the world cup, Seven has the tri-nations, ABC has club rugby, FOX has the Super 14 and tests and TEN has had the Wallabies european tours for the last few years. Not to mention Eurosport’s coverage of European rugby and ESPN’s Six Nations coverage.

If anything Rugby is the sport most in demand!!

  14. Joe September 12, 2010 at 2:24 pm -

Gee the AFL really creams rugby ratings if you include one hd ratings as well for the AFL ratings the gap is even further

  15. alvar September 12, 2010 at 1:32 pm -

ten should consider moving rush to eleven next year. after two years in a decent timeslot the show has still failed to find its feet. however, there is definately an audience there and a move to eleven would certainly allow the show room to grow without the pressure of ratings. they could give the show another 13 episode season and see how it goes.

  16. Justin September 12, 2010 at 12:56 pm -

As a lover of at least league and AFL and Union so and so I think these ratings are expected in Sydney and Brisbane league is the biggest code with union then AFL but nationally AFL is the biggest then league and union. I guess that’s obvious when league don’t show any finals live south of the yarra its just not on the rader at all. But all 4 games yesterday where sensational even if I had to stay up till 4 o clock in Melbourne

  17. Jarred September 12, 2010 at 12:46 pm -

Decent ratings in Sydney for AFL with 120,000 (inc One), considering NRL finals and Rugby Union were all on at the same time.
Why play any form of rugby on FTA in AFL states when they play it at ridiculous times of the morning, its not worth the effort. I mean 1.20am this morning sees the rugby union match start here in Adelaide, I mean seriously, what is the point.

  18. Kuttsywood September 12, 2010 at 11:44 am -

@BM-Dog: Agree with that. After all, that game last night was the first ever golden point final, and it was probably like walking on eggshells for both Nine and the NRL.

  19. FJ September 12, 2010 at 11:38 am -

It’s time AFL and Rugby Union were taken off TV in Sydney and Brisbane. They just don’t rate.

  20. Ryano September 12, 2010 at 11:20 am -

On a night of big Rugby League, Rugby Union and Australian Rules games, the numbers prove the Australian Football League is the king of them all.
    Australian Football is #1.

  21. BM-dog September 12, 2010 at 11:11 am -

Incredible night of rugby league last night – especially the Tigers-Roosters game, wow! My heartrate was going crazy and I don’t support either team. From a TV perspective it was interesting how Nine handled the overrun. Extra time went for almost 20 minutes in the first game, and eventually the NRL decided it couldn’t delay the second game any further and started it while the first game was still going. Nine then cut straight to the second game live as soon as Shaun Kenny-Dowall scored the winning try, which meant we missed the opening ten minutes of the second game as well as the post-match celebrations in the first game. That was a shame, but it meant we still got to see the second game live which was probably the best outcome.

  22. koverstreet September 12, 2010 at 11:11 am -

Good to see A Man & His Dogs do well. I’m enjoying these docos on 7 recently but alas it looks like coming to an end soon with some world records drivel coming up for the 6.30 slot. I would love 7 to bring back The World Around Us at 6.30,used to enjoy that back when with Frank Warrick hosting.

  23. Johnson September 12, 2010 at 10:58 am -

Last night’s three football matches, shown simultaneously in Sydney and Brisbane, all involved fightbacks and close finishes. But in the end it was rugby league first, rugby union second and AFL third.

  24. David Knox September 11, 2010 at 8:50 pm -

AFL aired at 5:30 in Perth on Friday, affecting a number of Seven shows.

  25. tv September 11, 2010 at 7:10 pm -

Is that Deal or No deal result correct for friday, if it is, its a massive drop compared to previous days.

  26. ryan September 11, 2010 at 5:47 pm -

I would expect ten to bring us another season of Rush next yr. It still is winning 16-39 even with those numbers so thats a good thing. Rush should be put on @ 9.30 tue after new ncis next yr, a big fugure from ncis would prob help it alot and both would go well together.

  27. Jarred September 11, 2010 at 3:54 pm -

    @ FJ
You make the most idiotic and meaningless comments. While that may be true, what do you expect when it is 2 hours delayed and up against NRL Finals. If it were live, it would be a different story like tonight for example with Sydney playing.

  28. ryan September 11, 2010 at 3:53 pm -

When the hell is ten going to give us something good on fridays? we have had repeats of ncis for ages now and those figures are shocking for 8.30pm, and svu repeats are boring aswell. come on ten and give us something New!!

  29. Andrew B September 11, 2010 at 2:25 pm -

AFL states will catch up with a Home and Away triple episode at 7pm Thur Sept 30, while the NRL states see the final Matty Johns Show for the year from 7.30 that night.

  30. Adam September 11, 2010 at 1:39 pm -

A Current Affair beat TT n Nine News came very close to Seven News last night… will be interesting when AFL finishes because 9 will be able to close the gap on friday nights where Seven has been having huge wins.

  31. francis September 11, 2010 at 1:36 pm -

If Channel 10 ever decide to cancel Rush, they can expect a lot of angry fans at their doorstep complaining and will fight tooth and nail to get the show back on the air.

the ratings the show gets is not an exact number. i watched Rush and i don’t have one of those rating boxes and so i was recorded as watching the show and so i don’t show up in the rating figures.

the show probably got more than that for viewers, just not everyone has a ratings box to record the fact that they did watch it

  32. FJ September 11, 2010 at 1:14 pm -

The AFL ratings in Sydney lost to everything it was up against. Even 7Two and GO!

    lol

  33. Johnson September 11, 2010 at 12:47 pm -

Seven won the night with the AFL semi-final doing very well in Melbourne and Perth (where it posted its best audience for this season), but so did the NRL qualifying final in Sydney and Brisbane even though the match did not involve teams from both cities. Tonight, for the first time ever in Australian TV history, three football codes will go head to head in primetime in Sydney, Canberra, Brisbane and Darwin: AFL (Bulldogs v Swans), rugby league (NRL finals doubleheader) and rugby union (Wallabies v All Blacks). Ratings figures will be interesting reading.

  34. JB September 11, 2010 at 11:13 am -

Great to see Nine is bringing back the Premiere movie night. Iron Man and The Dark Knight should rate extremely well, and against Seven’s pathetic schedule of old repeats of Bones, they should rate anywheere between 1.5 – 2 million.

Nine’s advertising Rescue Crap Name’s final weeks….they should probably add “Ever” on the end. Hardly seems worth it returning.

Glad i recorded the NRL Footy Show and not Matty Johns. Meant i could fast forward through Mundine.

  36. messy September 10, 2010 at 10:58 pm -

That means that the other 99.99% of the population don’t give a toss about it.
    Why is everyone so supprised?

  37. Trix September 10, 2010 at 7:22 pm -

@ryan, 14 eps to go in this series of Rush.

  38. Harry September 10, 2010 at 5:51 pm -

Im a little biased when it comes to Rush but last nights episode was the most brilliant episode of Rush Ive ever seen. Its so frustrating to watch the figures at such a low level.

  39. Maia September 10, 2010 at 5:35 pm -

Rush is one of the best shows on tlevision – why doesnt it get good ratings? the quality of acting is great especially from th e younger cast.I love the character of Michael and the love interest he has with the new girl Audrey. They make me relate to the world of the show. I hope more young people get to know about this show.

  40. JB September 10, 2010 at 5:26 pm -

Yep the Rush figures were as i feared, still bad, but a brillaint episode. It is great to hear so many people love the show, just worrying such a great show, that has so many fans on here, is rating so poorly. I’m happy it was #1 in timeslot in Adelaide. Haven’t watched COPS ABC, not interested, by the sounds of it,it isn’t worth watching. Nine is terrible with local drama. Even Underbelly is woeful acting and scripts, but hype means it does well.

  41. Jarred September 10, 2010 at 5:05 pm -

Ouch for AFL Game Day, Seven got smashed in the 7.30pm slot for Melbourne, Adelaide and Perth losing it to Nine, Ten and ABC. ‘Hopefully we’ll be back next week’ is what the host kept saying all night, well he better hope harder with those figures. I’d be surprised to see it on next week.

  42. Kai September 10, 2010 at 4:47 pm -

Poor rush. It’s such a good show… pity the ratings don’t reflect that.

  43. Elizabeth September 10, 2010 at 4:43 pm -

RUSH was awesome last night. Funny how in ep1 all these viewers complained about the last 5 minutes. It wrapped up nicely last night. Nice to see a story continue over a few weeks. I am sorry to see viewers are declining, but it seems across all stations Thursday are not pulling viewers.

Sounds like many bloggers are agreeing that RUSH is a great show and are also puzzled about the decline in ratings. Let’s hope it picks up because I love it!

  44. ryan September 10, 2010 at 4:32 pm -

loved bondi vet and rush last night, the train part on rush was good and the ending even better catching that bastard! Felt so sorry for that dog that got ripped open by the other dog:( He was so cautious when she took him outside.
Dissapointed rush didn;t get better results, think next week it will switch with cops l.a.c and better it. I wonder how many rush eps are left??

Here from UK on a working holiday, and have found FTA in Aust. excellent. Having said that, I saw Matty Johns yesterday. I thought it was a parody about awful sports shows – but then it went on… and on – very embarrassing, even worse than some of our offerings.

Catherine, Home and Away will be behind in some cities. I presume after another pre-emption next Friday they will look at addressing.

David whats happening with the Home and Away episode on tonight that some states wont see because of the footy finals on at 8 and better homes and gardens on at 7pm?

Wasn’t little Leroy the cutest on Bondi Vet? So beautiful.

Dr Chris Brown is so dreamy. It was so cute to see him and Leroy.

you have to admire the Aussie spirit for giving COPS LAC a second chance. And it’s last. After last night’s episode, I’m just impressed the writers from ‘The Strip’ have bounced back…..

  52. Craig September 10, 2010 at 10:47 am -

I didn’t even bother with Cops last night and it looks like some 242 000 others didn’t bother either. Unless it bounces back a 2nd season is unlikely, those big name stars must cost the production a fortune!

Still the numbers are better than Rush, what the frak is going on there? Late nights ep was fantastic.

In regards to Rush characters I actually have founf lawson to be the most arrigant character thsi season, and I hope with the conclusion of last nights storyline he will improve in his attitude towards his work colleagues and work ethics.

  54. Nik C September 10, 2010 at 10:42 am -

I am glad Rush increased viewers after last weeks shocker, lets hope if LAC dissatisfaction grows they will switch back to Rush!

Go Bondi Vet – destroying everything that is put against it. Great episode last night and very embarrassing for Getaway, which surely must be on its last legs

  56. David Knox September 10, 2010 at 10:33 am -

That was an initial hope I believe. But I don’t think S2 has been decided yet.

  57. ducko September 10, 2010 at 10:30 am -

Speaking of Cops LAC future, weren’t they filming a 2nd series back to back with the 1st?

  58. Peter September 10, 2010 at 10:30 am -

What is going on with the Ratings for Rush. It is such a good show. I don’t get why people are leaving it!

  59. David Knox September 10, 2010 at 12:34 am -

    I didn’t like Ep 2.

  60. Rutzie September 10, 2010 at 12:23 am -

Gave Cops LAC a second chance but unfortunately was let down terribly. The dialogue and plotlines are woeful. I thought it was better than The Strip but now I’m not so sure. I can’t see it getting a second season.

@JB – I disagree. Michael in Rush brings a much needed lighter (or “childish”) element to the team dynamic to offset Lawson and Josh. Plus, he has been involved in some great storylines over the past 3 seasons.

  62. JB September 9, 2010 at 11:24 pm -

What a brilliant episode of Rush. It’s a shame it’s ratings have dived, interested to see tomorrow how it rated. Was Rush at it’s best though. My only problem with Rush, they need to get rid of the character Michael and the new chick Audrey. Michael is an immature annoying idiot, certainly not a character you would put in such an important police role. He’s not needed in the show. And Audrey is just as childish. Stupid character to introduce. Quite like Kristian though.

Sorry no figures supplied for Human Target and Dark Blue.

Ha! I have always found Asher Keddie plain, so I have had no problems buying into her character’s insecurity over her appearance. She is a great actress though, but I’m still not sold on the writing yet.
