it’s an afl grand final. they should have those sort of numbers no matter what. we have a new team cioming into the comp and we should have these nsory of numbers. but it sholuld be like this every week fron friday night to sunday. but it will never happen with 7 as a major broadcaster

  2. Ryano October 3, 2010 at 2:54 pm -

AFL is alive and well in NSW and Queensland folks. The long held perception that NSW and Qld are simply “NRL” states is laughable with figures like that for an AFL game involving two Victorian clubs in the national comp.

  3. David Knox October 3, 2010 at 2:45 pm -

Long weekend in several states will impact on all ratings and then be huge on Monday night.

  4. Johnson October 3, 2010 at 2:37 pm -

Ratings for tonight (October 3) will be interesting. Normally Nine will win the night with a big margin with the NRL Grand Final telecast plus a decent program line-up, but this time it has decided to show a movie repeat (Rush Hour 3) at 8.30pm. Throw in the holiday long weekend in Sydney and Adelaide, and the Commonwealth Games opening ceremony (which will be included in 6pm-midnight ratings in Brisbane, Adelaide and Perth due to time difference), then Nine may only manage a narrow victory. And as Sunday ratings are counted from 2am Sunday to 2am Monday, we will only find out next week the exact audience figures for the opening ceremony. It won’t rate as big as Melbourne 2006 or even the 2008 Beijing Olympics, but Ten should be happy if it gets at least 1.5 million viewers.

  5. Dale October 3, 2010 at 2:20 pm -

I’m not surprised that the ratings where higher in Sydney and Brisane for the GF replay. Had the game being close I think it would have an average over 3 million, the highest for a non-sydney GF. It would be interesting to a see a graph of the two games ratings. I would expect the replay to have a higher intial audience but then trail off after half time when the result was no longer in doubt.

  6. Adam October 3, 2010 at 2:12 pm -

Not surprising numbers down in melb 4 afl replay given all the events on @ the same time! Huge weekend with music fests like parklife… Obviously numbers up in NSW n Qld cos nrl not on

  7. DC October 3, 2010 at 1:07 pm -

Went up in NRL states and went down in AFL states. Maybe Andrew Demetriou will insist that all future grand finals be drawn so that the replay can attract a bigger audience in NSW and QLD.

  8. Secret Squïrrel October 3, 2010 at 12:43 pm -

@Kuttsywood – that’s prob because there was no NRL this time around.

  9. David Knox October 3, 2010 at 12:06 pm -

A note about last week’s AFL figures: because the match was a draw it meant effectively no Presentations (from a planned 20 min broadcast to 12 mins actual) and thus boosted its average figure to 3.3m -which is what we will see in end of year figures. It’s one out of the box….

Here are the results of the match itself and I list Preliminary figures so you can compare:
    Rematch: 2,679,000 / 405,000 1,311,000 375,000 274,000 314,000
    Draw: 2,777,000 / 368,000 1,475,000 283,000 314,000 338,000

  10. Kuttsywood October 3, 2010 at 11:55 am -

I’m stunned at those numbers for the AFL GF replay, in non-AFL states… higher than the drawn GF last week.

  11. Donald October 3, 2010 at 3:14 am -

@salf One getting more than 1% is nothing to do with luck – it happens almost every time they have a live event during primetime (F1, etc.). As discussed earlier in these comments, the daily share figures only cover primetime, so since most of One’s live events fall outside primetime, e.g. US sports, we don’t actually see what they’re real 24-hour share is. Watch their figures during the C’wealth games!

Also, Ten specifically announced that One would be simulcast in SD until sufficient people had HD sets to not be missing out on One (there was low HD penetration at the time of launch). Obviously they now feel that is the case, and so are now launching their 3rd channel (One will become HD only… like the 2 new channels from 7 and 9, which have only just launched).

  12. ryan October 2, 2010 at 2:31 pm -

are oztam slacking off on fridays now david?

  13. Robert October 1, 2010 at 8:24 pm -

It IS amazing that Two and a half punchlines rates that highly after so many repeats, especially as it is a really poor show to begin with. I don’t think that its that popular, you just need to compare it to whatever else is on in that time-slot and understand that people leave their TV on from the time they get home to when they go to bed.

  14. Adam October 1, 2010 at 7:13 pm -

Has everyone not seen every episode of Two n Half Men?!

How does a series get strung out to that many times a week n still get those figures! wow
    just don’t understand it

  15. Tasmanian de√il October 1, 2010 at 6:42 pm -

I agree with Amy’s comment. Personally I’m not that fussed, but a lot of people take HD seriously, and GO would probably have more HD content than GEM (a lot of the shows on GEM are 4:3). It just seems like a waste. Also, GO has a wider demographic, so things like sport wouldn’t seem as out of place as they would on GEM.

@ Tony Bee – Exactly what I was thinking.

  16. Ezz October 1, 2010 at 5:05 pm -

Hmm where did the audience go last night?

  17. Tony Bee October 1, 2010 at 4:24 pm -

Darryn, Glee is a Top 10 show – it’s hardly going to be “shoved to the second channel” simply because you don’t like it!

  20. ryan October 1, 2010 at 3:23 pm -

Happy to see Rush up, it was a pretty good ep! And i will def remember that 1 for a while yet! f that. lol. Bondi vet was good as usual and i felt so sorry for that dog that got hit by the car! it was in soo much pain. Watched amazing race during the ads and didnt look to bad. Im dissapointed with burn notice’s figures, should be around 650,000 but hopefully if rush rises again next week it will aswell cause it’s a great show!

  21. Harry October 1, 2010 at 2:27 pm -

Nice to see Rush with a decent number – I hope it keeps creeping back up from now on! Was a decent episode last night, not my favourite though.

  22. Maev October 1, 2010 at 1:48 pm -

i toatally agree with the many comments in here…..re HD channels….
They are totally being wasted on non HD programs……
What is the use of having HD capable TVs if the programs are not HD….
and the HD progams are being wasted on the digital stations…..??!?!?!?!????

  23. Maev October 1, 2010 at 1:35 pm -

Good to see ‘The Circle’…ch.10….10AM to Noon…….has made the ratings lists…twice in a row….holding its own with Kerry-Ann……
Hope it continues ….was not sure I would like it after David & Kim….but it is great and has differtent guest presenters….male and female…..

  24. Nick October 1, 2010 at 11:44 am -

Pi** poor top ten shows. Six of them are news.

What came first? The audience disappearing on Thursday night or networks giving us nothing to watch on Thursday night?

  25. Craig October 1, 2010 at 11:28 am -

Nice seeing Rush is out rating the over hyped Craps sorry Cops on Nine… looks like the only thing keeping Nine on top is GO!, wonder how long before GEM is changed to improve the numbers? But the big problem is all these new channels are taking away viewers from the main ones.

So when was The Event encore, 7Mate in HD?

  26. salf October 1, 2010 at 11:21 am -

ten is going to have a loong rest of the year with these digitals. 7 and 9 getting an added 6-7% from their combined digitals and ten seems to be lucky to get more than 1% for ONE.

why have they taken so long to launch 11? i know it takes time to lauch a channel. but surely it shouldn’t take this long. they’ve known about their right to do so for years, why weren’t they organised enough to launch it in January? especially when they started to see the types of shares ONE gets. now it is launching a full year after they were allowed to.

just bringing it up because i can clearly remember 7 copping it from commenters here about being the last to launch a 2nd channel. attitudes seem to have changed for 11.

  27. Bruce Banner October 1, 2010 at 11:12 am -

Wow, no-one watched TV last night! Great to see Rush win it’s time slot this week!

  28. Amy October 1, 2010 at 11:12 am -

GEM is possibly the worst channel ever. There are only a few TV shows on there to choose from – New Adventures, Friends and old crappy movies.

Why would women want to watch NRL (okay maybe hot guys in tight shorts will be a reason) and cricket (WTF??!!)?

Nine should really move GEM to SD, GO to HD. Move all the old sitcoms (Lucy, Seinfeld) and shows (The Hills, Charlie’s Angels) to GEM and make GO more youth oriented and sports. Easy.

Good to see that people are coming back (at least according to these ratings figures) to Rush after realising it is the better show in comparison to COPS LAC.

Also loved Penguin Island last night (after Bondi Vet) as well. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

  30. Joe October 1, 2010 at 10:55 am -

Once again ch9 should have showed the footy show at 8.30 in Adelaide and Melbourne (if it already wasn’t 8.30 in melb) and saved cops for when school goes back. But oh well if 9 want to be stubborn go ahead but look at the figures for the two shows, they speak for themselves. Anyway too late to do anything now that football season ends tomorrow. Hope they learn for next year

  31. Trix October 1, 2010 at 10:54 am -

I’m a happy camper this morning. Rush whups Cops by 150,000. And did anyone catch TAR’s Phil asking one of the competing couples if they knew which country they were in, only to be told, “we’re in the country of London, aren’t we?”. Gold …

  32. CK October 1, 2010 at 10:48 am -

oh dear for COPS! that is not a good figure (although all thurs shows were low).
Looks like 7mate is doing well, compared to GEM!!

  33. vicki b October 1, 2010 at 10:47 am -

It was an all 7Mate night for me last night. First I watched Warehouse 13, I really enjoyed it, intriguing and pretty funny too. I’ll be sticking with it.

Next up Caprica, uumm, I could not get into this at all.

Next, I watched the repeat of The Event, seeing as I missed it first time round. Really really good. Dramatic and intriguing. Looking forward to more.

  34. Elizabeth October 1, 2010 at 10:23 am -

Good to see Rush above Cops LAC! The ratings all round were low, due to school holidays, but despite to low ratings, Rush is slowly creeping back up. Hopefully after the Commonwealth Games it will lift some more. It was a great episode last night, with two stories running concurrently.

  35. Nik C October 1, 2010 at 10:21 am -

Hooray! Rush is still winning its timeslot. BEating TAR and LAC. Ch9 must be worried after not being able to keep over 1 mill viewers in just a short time. At leat Rush is maintaining a steady flow (still not high) but Thurs is much lower than it used to be!

  36. Allie October 1, 2010 at 7:51 am -

@Darryn, totally agree with you. Normally, I enjoy Glee, even though I don’t think its as great as its hype makes it out to be, but Wednesday’s Britney Spears episode was a Total shocker. I lasted about halfway through, but had to switch off as it became absolutely unbearable, hurting my eyes and ears to watch it. I have a horrible, sinking feeling that Glee is going to be ruined by its success.

  37. JB September 30, 2010 at 10:46 pm -

Just got around to watching The Event. It was absolutely horrible. The end of the episode i thought WTF. And the amount of flashbacks, and telling 5 different stories while going back to different times every 5 mins was stupid. Lost was genius how it used flashbacks in each episode to tell the backstory of a character. Flashforward was a decent show, executed poorly with some unbelievable storylines. But the flashforward idea was great and then telling the story of how it came to that. But The Event it tells too many peoples story at the same time, and then tells different time periods at the same time. Was a complete rabble. The ratings will drop, deserves to. I won’t be watching. Stuck with Flashforward but this is just crap.

  38. Donald September 30, 2010 at 9:35 pm -

After being close intially, 7mate now has a very definite lead over Gem, much more so than the lead Go had over 72, so that now we have the 72-73 combo out-punching the 90-99 combo. Despite 9’s rush to get their new channel to air first (which failed) looks like 7’s planning just downright outwitted 9 this time around (though it is still early days of course, but score this launch win to 7 so far).

  39. messy September 30, 2010 at 8:16 pm -

    @Jarred,
given that only a very small percentage of people have rating boxes and the results are multiplied to give the eventual results, it doesn’t take much to have a skewed result.
Another good reason why the ratings system is rubbish.

  40. Tony Mac September 30, 2010 at 7:28 pm -

@JB ah yeah your right they do, I see your point.

  41. CK September 30, 2010 at 7:25 pm -

    @steve
all channels do it when ppl die – ch9 with patrick swayze – most channels with michael jackson just off the top of my head. least malcolm douglas made the shows for ch7 in the first place!

  42. Trix September 30, 2010 at 6:23 pm -

@Jarred, it’s baffling for a lot of us who live here in the West. To be honest I don’t watch either 7 or 9 for news (ABC or SBS for me) as I find them equally lame.

  43. Tasmanian de√il September 30, 2010 at 6:11 pm -

Was the In Betweeners on? I tuned in yesterday and a second episode of Two And A Half Men was being shown.

  44. Goonies September 30, 2010 at 6:01 pm -

@ Jarred – because Perth is full of lowest common denominator type people who relish the bright colours and emotive words chosen by ch 7.

(Trust me I live in Perth, I know!)

  45. Darryn September 30, 2010 at 5:22 pm -

How bad was glee?, turned off after 15 mins (and tens awful advertising) definately needs to be shoved to the 2nd channel

  46. Jarred September 30, 2010 at 4:17 pm -

Can anyone tell me why Seven News in Perth is so popular compared to Nine News? I mean 216k verses 92k last night, is Pamela Anderson hosting it or something?

  47. Goonies September 30, 2010 at 4:09 pm -

I’m with you JB – Toxic was the only really good bit and everything else sort of felt a bit disjointed.

The parts real Britney appeared in looked like they had taken about 100 takes each as well.

  48. JB September 30, 2010 at 3:51 pm -

@Tony Mac. No they don’t. They usually perform the songs as part of a Glee performance, or like a musical film, they break out into song. The Madonna episode they recreated Vogue clip but that was part of the plot that Sue film it. Same with Physical, her and Olivia Newton John recreated it. Lady Gaga and KISS they dressed up liek them and performed.

I just didn’t like how they used “hallucinations” as an attempt to do frame by frame copies of Britney’s video clips. Wasn’t a tribute, just an exact copy. Preferred the toxic performance at the end. That was brilliant.

  49. Andrew B September 30, 2010 at 3:49 pm -

So much for The Big C being one of GEM’s centrepiece shows?

Looking at the share for GEM compared to 7mate, I’d say they are paying the price for having no promotion on channel Nine whereas you can’t watch Seven for ten minutes without seeing 7mate mentioned somewhere on screen at the moment.

  50. koverstreet September 30, 2010 at 3:35 pm -

Nine will surely move The Boss Is Coming To Dinner (and no one cares). That’s a horrible number for 8.30. Perhaps move RPA to 8.30 where it would probably get close to 1m.

On a positive note The Block didn’t drop off and got basically the same as the premiere.

Good numbers for House as well. Really enjoying the House/Cuddy relationship and how it affects there work relationship.

  51. Tony Mac September 30, 2010 at 2:33 pm -

@JB don’t they always do that sort of thing on Glee? I only watch the bigger ‘event’ type eps, so I’m no expert, but all the ones I’ve seen seemed to reenact the videos during at least 50% of the musical sequences…and this ep was no different.

  52. David Knox September 30, 2010 at 2:21 pm -

Family Guy on 7mate was 163,000, missed it in my roundup. The BIg C and GEM didn’t make the Top 100.

  53. Sillygostly September 30, 2010 at 2:12 pm -

    The Big C?

  54. Jarred September 30, 2010 at 1:53 pm -

@ JB, I feel you frustration.
What is the point in using HD channels for old (some black and white) shows, cartoons and repeats. HD channels need to be used to show new material and sport because their is a big difference between standard and high definition. 7Mate and Gem contain a lot of old stuff and repeats which shouldn’t be shown using the HD channels. Seven and Nine are wasting their HD channels, however, TEN are making good use of it. I hope this changes eventually, they need to make the primary channels (ie Nine and Seven) High definition and Standard definition and then make all the digitial channels standard definition except One.

  55. Steve September 30, 2010 at 1:48 pm -

How low can 7 go trying to make bucks out of Malcolm Douglas’s death? Reprehensible!

  56. v September 30, 2010 at 1:46 pm -

@ JB totally agree with you re HD channels. I wanted to tape Weeds last night but couldn’t, as my DVD recorder is not HD. I absolutely hate watching shows live on tv, love to tape them and watch later, then can fast-forward adds and if i get interrupted which is normally the can rewind…… Annoying!

I ended up missing first half so luckly the whole episode was on you tube.

  57. JB September 30, 2010 at 1:29 pm -

Yay City Homicide again above 1 mil. Maybe this will mean Seven will renew it but put it in the right timeslot next year. It rpoves there is an audience who want to watch it.

The Glee episode with Britney was a massive disappointment. Was hardly a guest appearance. And toxic was the only decent offering. The rest were just shot for shot recreations of her video clips. Didn’t like that. They should have either incorporated them in scenes or done Glee performaces, not a complete rip off of clips.

  58. Johnson September 30, 2010 at 12:45 pm -

An all new episode of Family Guy pulled 163,000 viewers for 7Mate last night. Quite a good result.

  59. DAN September 30, 2010 at 12:44 pm -

the boss shouldnt be coming to dinner next week with that pathetic rating have some sense channel 9 and axe it it is clearly not going to work and is dragging down one of your longest running and most sucessfull series RPA

  60. Joe September 30, 2010 at 12:42 pm -

American dad outrated family guy! Really? David do you happen to know the ratings for Family guy last night?

  61. Harry September 30, 2010 at 12:42 pm -

I thought Glee was brilliant last night – more episodes focused on single artists would keep me watching!

  62. JB September 30, 2010 at 11:06 am -

Why are 7mate and GEM in HD??? When digital first arrived there were 4 SD channels for 7, including 73, now that it’s 7mate it’s suddenly HD which of course means i can’t record shows on 7mate because my dvd recorder is only SD. Marvellous. ONE is available on HD but also on SD, the other new channels should all be available on SD with the main channels having a HD option.

  63. Amy September 30, 2010 at 10:30 am -

Glee wasn’t as good as I thought it would be last night – wanted more of Britney.

  64. Alan Vandermost September 30, 2010 at 7:53 am -

What’s going on with HD broadcasting. It seems we are going backwards in this country sacrificing quality picture for multi-channel options. Forget buying HD tV’s anymore – networks are not really supporting them anyway!

  65. Donald September 29, 2010 at 11:18 pm -

@ryan One was promoted for almost 2 months before launch, so promoting 11 for several months beforehand not unusual based on same-network precedent (unlike 7 and 9, who seem to be determined to rush things out as soon as they’ve made a decision… resulting in GEM not launching when it was supposed to. At least we know 11 will launch exactly when they tell us it will).

  66. Mr. chandler September 29, 2010 at 8:12 pm -

than look at this week jerome. it’s a pattern

  67. koverstreet September 29, 2010 at 8:08 pm -

@ jake – Letters & Numbers is so dry ,the only reason to watch is the hot geek girl. Though i suppose if your a scrabble or math nerd it’d be your favorite show. I had a laugh the other day when they showed a promo that tried to make it look fun and exciting.

  68. Secret Squïrrel September 29, 2010 at 8:01 pm -

@Eye Spy – “A couple of knockers already for TG oz.” I suspect that the ratings might improve if they had a couple of knockers on the show!

  69. David Knox September 29, 2010 at 7:51 pm -

ACMA just told networks to improve their EPGs.

  70. TDJ September 29, 2010 at 7:49 pm -

Yet another example of morons working / running television networks. I have noticed that the EPG’s are displaying the titles of a programs episode rather than the actual name of the program. So I guess if you know all the episode names of the programs you will know what the program is. Is that how it is supposed to work? Bloody imbeciles. When is someone in authority going to get off their useless asses and straighten out these incompetent networks, or are they a law unto themselves.

  71. Jerome September 29, 2010 at 7:12 pm -

@Mr. Chandler. here are the figues:
    3weeks ago: 1,739,000
    2weeks ago: 1,867,000
    last week: 1,873,000

how is that “losing number in bunches every week”

  72. Eye Spy September 29, 2010 at 7:06 pm -

A couple of knockers already for TG oz. The show last night had a very contrived feel about it but maybe the boys will be better back in their own environment. The ratings will be very interesting. Other countries that have adopted their own version have failed so like the SBS effort I don’t hold out much hope for it.

  73. Jarred September 29, 2010 at 6:58 pm -

I thought Shane Jacobson was a great addition to the TG Oz Team last night. He is much better than the moustache guy that they had when it got canned. However, on this occasion the Brits have got it over us Aussies and I would much rather watch them. In saying that, the preview of the TG Oz series last night looked pretty good, lets hope they weren’t just all the best bits that were shown.

  74. Jake September 29, 2010 at 5:44 pm -

Nice to see SBS ONE’s Letters And Numbers sneak onto the ratings list
