Video journalists Yalda Hakim and Mark Davis will host Dateline for SBS next year, when George Negus exits the show for his new role at TEN.
Executive Producer Peter Charley said Davis and Hakim will each still work as reporters, with one presenting the program while the other is on assignment.
“The idea of putting working Video Journalists in the studio to host the program returns Dateline to the essence of what has made it such a distinctive program – Video Journalism lies at the heart of what we do.”
“While I’m obviously sad to see George leave, I’m extremely excited by Dateline‘s new presenting team. Yalda and Mark represent the cutting edge of Video Journalism, the core of Dateline‘s unique approach to story-telling.”
Hakim (pictured), 27, has been reporting for Dateline for the past two years, covering stories in Afghanistan, Norway and India. She has been an Australia’s Young Journalist of the Year finalist and last year won the United Nations Media Peace Prize for Best Australian Television News coverage.
Mark Davis has won five Walkley Awards, including the prestigious Gold Walkley for ‘Blood Money’. Most recently he reported on Wikileaks founder Julian Assange and Dutch politician Geert Wilders.
The new series of Dateline starts on SBS ONE in February 2011.

Oh dear, judge dread, get a life
memo to the so called ‘video journalist’… the view finder is on the Other side of a Sony camcorder…hahahaha epic fail.
I agree with FriendlyCroc!
Seems like George Negus might’ve accidentally taken an early retirement?
I am very happy with these appointments.
I loved the abrasive hosting style of Mark Davis, back when he did it before George Negus came in. Yalda Hakim is a fantastic reporter and has great on-screen presence.
I have to say, as much as I like George, there are a number of annoying mannerisms of his which I will not miss. Chewing on his pen during interviews, fence-sitting, trying too hard to get a laugh somewhere, repetitious questions, reliance on cliches, heavy use of quotes from other interviews.
Haha, sounds like I hate him, but I don’t. I wish him well at Ten and look forward to Mark and Yalda next year.
