Television hit by the Big C

This isn't so much a "News" story as an observation.....

This isn’t so much a “News” story as an observation…..

While doing some research for The Big C, I did a quick search on previous stories I had logged under the term “Cancer.”

It netted a rather shocking number of results.

It reminded me just how much this disease impacts on the industry, just as it does all walks of life.

Take a look at these headlines from previous stories and you will see what I mean.

All of these are from 2010:

  1. Sad article – apart from Dr Rudi’s funny little gag.
(You’re not The Dr Rudi from the sadly missed SBS ‘Life Support” comedy are you?)
But really people, as humans live longer and longer the chances of getting cancer is increased – almost inevitable. It’s a cell replication fault, so the older you are the more likely you’ll get one type or another. Doesn’t that suck?
Sadly I’ve had a few types myself.

  2. When they made the 1956 movie The Conqueror the area for a lot of the filming was downwind of the Nevada nuclear test site, they even carted tons of the dirt back to Hollywood for studio re-shoots.Within 20 years 90 of the crew had developed cancer with 46 dying from the disease. The Director Dick Powell,Susan Hayward,John Wayne and Agnes Moorehead were some of the well known names that died.

  3. Even though I have a few people I’m very close to suffering from this disease, this has still opened my eyes and made me more aware of how many others are suffering too.

I feel people still think this is a disease that discriminates. We’re all human.

  4. Indeed, it is a disease that has a huge impact on our day-to-day life. I would bet that every person in Australia has a family member or knows someone who has suffered from this horrendous and terrifying illness.

  5. David – I thought the headline was taking a shot at James Packer’s recent interest in TEN. You won’t be in the business long calling him names like that !
