British born actor Simon MacCorkindale, who starred in the 1983 series Manimal and was a regular on Falcon Crest, has died aged 58.

MacCorkindale died of bowel cancer at a London clinic his publicist Max Clifford said.

MacCorkindale won the starring role in Manimal as a crime-fighting college professor capable of metamorphosing into any animal, but the series survived for only eight episodes. He had better luck on Falcon Crest, appearing in 59 episodes from 1984 to 1986 as womanising lawyer Greg Reardon.

He also had a six-year run on the BBC’s Casualty as consultant Harry Harper.

Other roles included the UK miniseries I, Claudius plus Dynasty, Hart to Hart and The Dukes of Hazard.

  1. Yeah, Natalie, there definitely were only 8 episodes. Felt like much more too, I agree! I always thought he was perfect for Manimal, having quite a hawk-like nose!

  2. Poor guy. Taken far too soon. I loved Manimal back in the day.

The late great effects master Stan Winston provided the transformations on that show.

  3. He was great in Manimal and gave Falcon Crest a touch more class.

I also remember his debut role in the film Death on the Nile – he was very good in that for sure.

  4. So sad to see another actor from one of my teenage shows gone, definitely too young.

Saw some footage from Manimal recently, did not live up to my memories, 1980’s special effects – not so special!
Was there really only 8 eps? I could have sworn it was on much longer.
Not sure though if I was watching it more for Simon or the cool black panther he turned into!

  5. A very handsome guy – ended up with a lot of stud muffin roles. Too young to go.
The cliche, ‘life is too short’ seems apt when you see items like this.
