Why is Human Target not listed here, or in week 43? It was on both of these weeks (eps 7 and 8)?

Well, with TEN not even bothering to move Neighbours out of that 6:30pm time-slot on its transfer to 11, the death knell has well and truly sounded for the show that TEN saved. It’s not a new home that’s needed, it’s a change of time-slot, and that time-slot can only be it’s original – 7:00pm. And I will advocate that until I’m blue in the face.

Nice try Ed but I was merely correcting Amy’s rose-tinted vision. Seeing HHiS struggling doesn’t give me any joy. It’s not a show for me but a lot of people have a soft spot for it (in their heads LOL!) so it’d be good if it could stabilise around 800-850k. It would prob do better at 7:30 outside of daylight savings time.

where has 7pm projects audience gone?

    good question!! downwards spiral.
    Friday 576k

and Friday neighbours 386k wow. looks like eleven can’t some quickly enough to get rid of that.

Ten programmers must be really alarmed at both these numbers.

Well that was money well spent on commonwealth games coverage that has clearly completely ruined their schedule….

I do find it curious that some people want to bury a show like Offspring, simply because it is not their cup of tea! To compare it to Friends is just silly. Offspring has been on air not even three months. It has a terrific leading character, and an equally terrific actress who embodies her. It has a sterling cast of top actors in supporting roles; it has a distinctive style and rhythm and is well written and directed. Hovering just under a million for most of its run (plus for a couple at least), the show has a following. With creative storyliners and writers, there are endless situations and characters that can propel the narrative forwards, regardless of how the will they won;t they plot line plays out. Arguments about its morals, its contrivances and character choices can be interesting but to dismiss it on ratings is absurd. I don’t watch Rush or City Homicide or Underbelly but do not decry their existence nor success. Australian dramas and comedies are rare, and should be supported and encouraged not derided flippantly. Thank you.

    aznfratboy,
There are endless possibilities when writing drama shows – as it is a relationship drama anything could happen. One of the characters could fall ill or turn to drugs, there could be a wedding, a death, even more scandals like the affair Nina had Mick (even though she and Chris werent together). I do agree that generally shows decrease in audiences as it grows, hopefully though Offsprings doesnt because I think its a good little show, not the best but its good.

  9. ryan October 31, 2010 at 3:30 pm -

I rekon offspring will grow in it’s second season.
On sats @ 6pm when 7 and 9 have their news which is pretty much at the top nearly every night Ten still insist on showing the simpsons on sats! Why? doesn’t win demos and is prop the slot where they are loosing the biggest share! Even if ten had something that grabbed 600,000 @ 6pm sat would be good . They need to find something for it and quick cause it’s pathetic that they stick with it when they have them 7 nights a week! we can do without the simpsons for 1 night ten!!!

  10. Ed October 31, 2010 at 1:40 pm -

That surely isn’t the same Secret Squirrel who was on his high horse about people taking pleasure in certain shows not rating. If it is then I guess it isn’t so “sad” when the boot’s on his foot.

  11. Maev October 31, 2010 at 1:16 pm -

@ Brad…’This style of series only has a limited audience anyway, most blakes hate them (me included) and people older than 40 see the characters as self-obsessed bores’
I object to you lumping us all in the one barrel…..I am in the ‘older than 40′ range….in fact …quite a bit older …..and I love everything about the show…the actors…the characters…the writing…..the directing…..camera work…locations….etc…….and I know a Lot of folk who also enjoy this show….including blokes….
As I am older….I can relate to all these characters…..I know…or have known folk with some or all of their idiosyncrasies.

  12. aznfratboy October 31, 2010 at 12:18 pm -

    @ harry
You’ve got to look at it this way, essentially, Offspring has run through the amount of storylines that a six season drama would have, my point is, it is Extremely rare that a show increases their viewership by more than maybe 5% after 6 seasons, unless they move from a wasteland timeslot into a spectacular timeslot, and considering it’s currently in the best place 10 can put it, they aren’t going to grow an audience unless they physically shut down every channel apart from 10 on Sunday nights.

  13. Secret Squïrrel October 31, 2010 at 12:12 pm -

@Amy – you mean consistently decreasing.

  14. Amy October 31, 2010 at 11:25 am -

Ten are a sinking ship. Truly horrific figures all round.

  16. Rutzie October 30, 2010 at 9:14 pm -

    26 Neighbours Ten 386,000

Wow. That is an horrific number for Neighbours. I’m guessing that’s the kind of figures Ten would be hoping for when it airs on Eleven next year but not on the main channel.

  17. Harry October 30, 2010 at 7:23 pm -

    Aznfratboy,
You have your opinion, and I have mine. You cant tell or be sure Offsprings audience wont grow anymore – it could very well return and take charge next year in its second season.
I agree they’ve certainly done heaps and heaps of major twists but its a drama show; they can introduce new storylines, and new characters which bring new drama to the show.
Its not my favourite show but I hope the show can prove you wrong and rate well.

  18. JB October 30, 2010 at 7:19 pm -

@Brad after 10 minutes thinking of what the hell SLOU was i finally figured out it was Secret Life Of Us lol. That was a good show, but when the main characters began leaving, so too did the viewers. Offspring is decent, not great. The sisters the best character, and Don Hany yes please, but i’m not really that interested in it. I record it and watch it later if i’m bored, but it’s not a must see show. It’s definitely not a show that will grow in ratings so it’s stuck with the numbers it has now.
Last Man Standing was a good show too, but that didn’t last long either. Been good watching on 7Two/7mate late at night

  19. Brad October 30, 2010 at 3:40 pm -

aznfratboy, you are right, Offspring will not grow its audience from here. This style of series only has a limited audience anyway, most blakes hate them (me included) and people older than 40 see the characters as self-obsessed bores. Non one is going to come onboard now if they haven’t watched already. The same thing happened with SLOU and other dramas of this genre. Makes me worry about the series 7 is currently developing. I have no interest as it seems to go down this tired relationship road once again. I’m probably not the target but the target is pretty small and success seems unlikely. Keep CH instad!!!

  20. aznfratboy October 30, 2010 at 1:51 pm -

    @ harry
To build an audience? Really? It’s like 8? 9? episode in? It’s brunt through Every twist and storyline you could think of, Ross and Rachel only began to get boring about 9 seasons in, I mean, seriously, the only thing the Offpsinrg couple hasn’t done yet is get pregnant via an alien life form. It’s audience isn’t going to grow anymore.

  21. Jake October 30, 2010 at 1:00 pm -

7Two’s Escape To The Country and 60 Minute Makeover are doing really well on a Friday for them – perhaps picking up Better Homes And Gardens’ audience from 8.30pm. I wonder if Seven would try bringing them to the main channel with BHAG as a lead-in.

  22. wamdue October 30, 2010 at 12:24 pm -

TEN is having it rough no question, but Neighbours just sunk into a black hole.

  23. Craig October 30, 2010 at 8:08 am -

ETA – I think the low ratings for shows is a world-wide thing, with more people using PVRs they are time shifting their viewing habits, in the US many shows are down and on NBC some shows are now not rating any better in the old Leno 10pm time slot did last year.

FYI yes Parenthood did start out above the 1 mil mark but ITA I think it’s found it’s level at around 900k, and the good news is after next weeks S1 final they will be moving strait on to S2 and I can only assume keep it on until the end of the ratings and the Rafters season final? There are some good surprises in the new season.

  24. Craig October 30, 2010 at 8:02 am -

What the hell is wrong with Rush’s ratings? This weeks ep was fantastic, I love how they used the different POVs (although at first I though someone had screwed up the tape or editing LOL) I hope we get that renewal soon for 2011.

  25. Ezz October 30, 2010 at 12:01 am -

How on earth is Beauty and the Geek getting better ratings than the Amazing Race?!

  26. catherine October 29, 2010 at 7:00 pm -

Wow 7 is suddenly doing well on thursdays. Im enjoying this season of TAR. There doesnt seem to be a couple who are nasty yet. The Beauty and The Geek is quite funny in particular last night. Funny how some of them didnt know what dding up was and the guys trying to make cocktails. Im looking foward to the makeover.

People just dont seem to watch much on thursdays. Anyway its nice to have something to watch.

Rush was good last night but not good figures. Bondi vet is crazy!! that croc park is insane, i also want one of those white dogs! good to see kuwtj holding onto its figures. The outback is so amazing! those water holes and creeks look awesome. Neighbours is so boring with the whole ringo dying crap!

Offspring doing ok in demos. It’s a normal TV J-Curve….

  31. Harry October 29, 2010 at 3:31 pm -

    aznfratboy,
I still disagree regarding Offspring. Its an Australian drama which is rating well considering its local content. Why destroy a show which has held its own on a Sunday Night? I see no reason to do so, The Goodwife season final didnt rate over a million, its was around 850k if I remember correctly.
Lead ins? Example of leadins dont matter – MC in its final week pulled 2.3 mill, then Rush premiere rated 1.07 million.

Move The Goodwife to Sundays, 9.30 but not to replace Offspring. Give the chance for Offspring to build its audience for goodness sake.

@ aznfratboy I agree. That isn’t a competitive spot for Offspring and lead ins count for a lot, particularly when the lead in show runs overtime. Offspring lovers are looking for a silver lining but under a million is not a good figure, especially when taking all the other variables into account.

  33. Ellie October 29, 2010 at 2:06 pm -

where has 7pm projects audience gone?

  34. aznfratboy October 29, 2010 at 1:57 pm -

    @ Harry
Didnt Offspring pull 990k last week
Simply put, and numerically measuring, it’s good, or at least not too bad, but again, considering it’s lead-in, 1.5? 1.6m viewers? and how it overruns like 15 mins every week, it’s pretty disappointing

    ….against Sherlock and X Factor?
Sherlock is barely competition, neither is X Factor, both around 1m – 1.1m, The Good Wife was getting 1.1 or so against Underbelly – 1.8m? and Bones 1.2-1.3?

And as for lead ins – they really dont have much of an impact these days.
Really? I would argue different, Lie To me with the lead-in of MasterChef got something like 1.4m, then once MasterChef ended, it spiked back down to 7-800k, you tell me whether lead-ins matter or not, same goes with Modern Family and to a lesser extent, Glee.

  35. Secret Squïrrel October 29, 2010 at 1:31 pm -

Looks like “The Daily Show” benefited from the Obama bump – I think this is the first time it’s made the list.

Thought a few more would’ve tuned in for the first ep of Nikita Iast night. Maybe it’s sitting on 100,000 PVRs. It wasn’t too bad and better than Caprica which has now dropped off the list.

  36. chk chk October 29, 2010 at 1:13 pm -

how good was Nikita last night, it was brilliant!

  37. alvar October 29, 2010 at 11:43 am -

those ratings for Rush really don’t justify renewal. at least city homicide is tracking around the 900k-1m mark. maybe ten could trial a shorter season on eleven next year.
and look at how much better CSI is doing in the less competitive thursday timeslot. they should continue into new episodes after the summer break on thursdays and not hold off for a while then change the timeslot like they did this year.

  38. Harry October 29, 2010 at 11:11 am -

Damn thats an appauling figure for Rush. I liked last nights episode, I though it was well executed in terms of all the characters’ stories.

Apparently, the next 2 episodes are 2 of Rush’s best eps ever.

  39. Jerome October 29, 2010 at 11:00 am -

hmm, so there are reports city homicide will be axed and reports Rush will be renewed. i think the opposite will happen. i know the politics of this are all wrong but i wonder if ten would be interested in buying CH off 7? 7 probably could do without it and if ten are considering renewing Rush they probably really could use it. especially with tens shift in demo focus.

what’s this sudden spark in TAR? these are the best ratings its getting in atleast 2 years. a positive sign for the local version.

  40. ducko October 29, 2010 at 10:19 am -

I wonder if Rush is still being renewed?

  41. Son October 29, 2010 at 10:08 am -

The storytelling on Rush has always been ordinary, which is why no one ep stands out from the other. There’s no heart to it at all.

  42. DC October 29, 2010 at 9:52 am -

Wow! What the hell happened to Rush last night!?!? Cops LAC actually got more viewers in Sydney at 930 than it did for 830 Rush. Thats pretty bad and considering its not against COPS LAC anymore it has no real excuse.
Wonder if it was already renewed before this figure came out because if not i think they my rethink getting it back on!

  43. JB October 29, 2010 at 9:06 am -

Didn’t like Rush at all last night. Lazy writing imo. They storm the place and you think it’s gonna get good and then the show ends. I’m sure they filmed it like that to build suspense but would have been much more exciting seeing the escpe, the chase, the seige begin. Then with the kid mentioning Immigration Minister, we’re wondering oh no what will happen when they find out who he is, but nothing happened with it. Could have been a good episode. Next weeks looks awfully similar to a previous episode too.

goodbye TEN, it’s been nice knowin’ ya

  45. Harry October 28, 2010 at 7:43 pm -

    Aznfratboy,
Didnt Offspring pull 990k last week against Sherlock and X Factor? Thats pretty good for an Aussie Drama on a competitive night, and correct me if Im mistaken but Offspring hasnt dipped to 700k. Its held its own amongst some strong shows, TEN would be stupid to replace it, they’d be ‘killing’ local content by putting the goodwife on at 8.30. Unless it picks up in coming weeks, The Goodwife should be moved 9.30 Sundays,

And as for lead ins – they really dont have much of an impact these days.

  46. Rutzie October 28, 2010 at 6:55 pm -

14 Two And A Half Men -Rpt Nine 837,000

Hopefully this is the beginning of the end for the daily repeats at 7pm. Nine have gotten away with this lazy programming for way too long.

  47. aznfratboy October 28, 2010 at 5:46 pm -

@harry Really?! Well? 7-800k with a show that pulls 1.5m as it’s lead-in is “good”? The good Wife was getting 900k-1m with Your Gen as it’s lead in, which had 1.3, and remember it had to go up against the juggernaut Underbelly, which got 1.8m viewers.

You Must have some kind of Aussie Pride hazing your view, because Offspring is neither good, nor rating well.

  48. Son October 28, 2010 at 4:47 pm -

What’s the story with Offspring? is it being moved?

  49. Donald October 28, 2010 at 4:05 pm -

Good one David. Can always count on you to slip in a sly remark now and then. :-)

Here’s a good one for those who missed it. One of the tweets during shoegate (wasn’t the one being highlighted in the story, so had to pause to see it) said “Tony Jones shouldn’t say sorry to John Howard, after all, he didn’t personally throw the shoe. He should just express sincere regret”. OMG, laughed so hard I almost….

  50. Jerome October 28, 2010 at 3:55 pm -

i think parenthood has reall found its stride in the last few episodes.at the start of the season i thought it was a poo mans brothers and sisters and it wasa bit meh. butnow i looks forward to it every week, the characters are all great and there are some good believable but still emotional storylines. i think that is the weak side of B&S there are a few too many skeletons in the closet that pop up mid season that are a bit farfetched.

in other news, what is this spike in home and aways ratings? we could say the comm games has split 7pm audience across al the oher options but i think it started to head upwards before then. this is usually the time of year where the ratings wind down.

  51. ryan October 28, 2010 at 3:26 pm -

@ harry: They should put goodwife @ 9.30 sunday after offspring.
Ten is shocking lately with their moving of shows like tbyg, goodwife, house, New simpsons and medium and all havn’t worked in their new days. It’s time to stop switching days and times for shows otherwise you will loose loyal viewers! Ten forgets when you move a good rating show to another day people have a schedule they like to keep so they will either tape it or not watch it anymore.
Also did recruits finish or did ten just drop it?

  52. Bogues October 28, 2010 at 3:25 pm -

Two things will be interesting about tonights ratings:

    1) If The Daily Show rates better because Barack Obama is on it
    2) Whether putting Nikita on Gem against Cops LAC on Nine (neither with a scheduled re-run) are going to reduce the audience for both?

  53. Sarah October 28, 2010 at 3:17 pm -

Has Parenthood ever gone over the 1 million mark?

I hope so because this show in my opinion is one of the best shows on tv hands down. Almost like PTTR but with so much more dynamic going on. I would usually switch the channel once PTTR is finished but just happened to leave it on there for a few minutes longer a few weeks ago and ended up watching the whole thing. Up until now, I have spent most of my spare time trying to find episodes online just so I can catch up to where it’s at now.

It’s the type of show that doesn’t need dramatic plots like police chases, murder investigation, gang shootings or assasination attempts to drive it. It’s just good, honest family related writing that is brilliantly portrayed by a bunch of great actors.

I hope Seven sticks to it as long as it is in existence.

It’s the best show I’ve seen in a long time.

  54. Harry October 28, 2010 at 2:43 pm -

Why would Channel 10 want to replace Offspring which is rating well for The Goodwife which isnt rating well? Love both shows, but Tim and Ryan I disagree with you both.

  55. steve October 28, 2010 at 2:37 pm -

glee really needs to go back to thursdays

  56. Tony Bee October 28, 2010 at 1:09 pm -

The new ep of TBBT last night was classic! One of the best I’ve seen. The show has really hit its stride now, so enjoy until it jumps the Robo Shark!

  57. Tim October 28, 2010 at 1:00 pm -

@ryan. 100% agree. the good wife should be back on sunday like it used to be, replace offspring for god sake! and bring on SVU, gotta love Stabler roughing up suspects lol

Kid’s Choice Awards owns slime these days…

  59. Donald October 28, 2010 at 12:34 pm -

ozgeek, Go only just finished showing S3 not long ago (a month or two?), prior to showing S1 again, so as I said, not that long ago that it already aired on Go. The S3 repeat on 9, following the premiere S4 ep, is getting more than twice the numbers that the same ep got on Go not long ago. I find that remarkable, literally. :-) People are really sticking with the primaries a whole bunch of the time, which I find odd this far down the digital track. So much new/HD content on alternative channels, and they stick with a repeat on the primary/SD version of a simulcast on the primary.

And yes, I’m confusing It’s A Knockout with Almost Anything Goes (I might’ve just dated myself more than you :-) ). I know what they do on TAYG, but that’s usually just one segment, and not the same at all. Watch TAYG occasionally, but would love to see some repeats of those old classics that’ve not seen air for decades. If we’re gonna have slime on TV then let’s do it properly. ;-)
