Award for “Mr Squiggle’s” Pat Lovell

Patricia Lovell, remembered by many Aussies as the loveable host of Mr Squiggle, was presented with an award for Film Preservation today.

Patricia Lovell, remembered by many Aussies as the loveable host of Mr Squiggle, was presented with the 2010 National Film Sound Archive Ken G Hall Award for Film Preservation today.

The renowned Australian actor, program presenter and journalist also became a Producer of Australian film classics including Picnic at Hanging Rock (1975), Gallipoli (1981), and Monkey Grip (1982).

The Award recognises outstanding contribution to moving image and its preservation. Lovell has donated  materials from her films with the NFSA throughout her career, particularly from the renaissance of the Australian film industry in the mid 1970s and into the 1980s.

Acting Chief Executive Officer of the NFSA, Ann Landrigan, said “we are proud to honour Patricia Lovell this year.

“Patricia is also well known as the host of Mr Squiggle and Friends from 1960–1975, and co–presenter of Channel 7’s Today Show from 1969–1974. I couldn’t be happier to reward Patricia’s contribution to Australia’s living heritage.”

Previous recipients have included filmmaker, Ian Dunlop, directors Paul Cox, Phillip Noyce and Peter Weir, producers Anthony Buckley and Joan Long, film preservation expert Tom Nurse of Kodak Australasia and film historian Judy Adamson.
