Lights, Camera, Party! for GTV9 farewell

EXCLUSIVE: The Nine Network will throw a TV party to celebrate its years at GTV9 at Richmond.

EXCLUSIVE: Channel Nine will throw a TV party to farewell its home at GTV9 in Richmond.

Tentatively titled Lights, Camera, Party!: Television City Celebrates, it will air live to air following the season final of Hey Hey it’s Saturday on November 27th.

Bert Newton and Eddie McGuire are tipped to host the special together, which will be broadcast from Studio 1, Graham Kennedy’s original studio.

Channel Nine stars will mingle in the studio in a party atmosphere as the special looks back on Nine’s legendary history at the Bendigo Street studio branded “Television City.” It has been home for GTV9 since 1955.

This week Eddie McGuire told TV Tonight, “Obviously with GTV being the last of the original television stations it will be disappointing. It’s so well located, it’s got a great feel, and I can remember walking in the first time. There seemed to be a magic about the place. Hopefully we can replicate that down at the Docklands.”

Nine moves to its new home at Bourke Street in the new year, and will rent space at Docklands Studios.

“So now we’ve got state of the art facilities and hopefully we can bring the magic of television,” he said.

Lights, Camera, Party!: Television City Celebrates will air around the country and brings Nine’s 2010 ratings year to a close.

Meanwhile, Nine’s Christmas Party for its employes on December 10th, is tipped to be the Party of the Year.

TV Tonight hopes Nine can still find time to dig deep and give the people of Melbourne an Open Day, as a parting gesture.

  1. jay jay, I think he was refering to Melbourne only, not the whole of Australia as there are a number of original locations still in use by the networks today across the country.

  2. @Dave, Hey Hey won’t be taped I reckon, it’ll be more of a extended celebration.

If Nine had any sense, they’d have HHIS live (thus the special too) in all east coast markets (i.e pushing Funniest Home Videos to 5pm in QLD) on that night.

  3. An open day is back on the table for consideration but it would be when the building is next to empty and about to be handed over to Lend Lease.
Reason being and people have to consider this Security concerns and a tight shedule to move to 717 Bourke Street.

  4. so will that mean that hey hey will be on tape and the special being live. cant imagine them striking the hey hey set and sending out the audience in the commercial break. hopefully they can do them both live somehow.

i thought bert didnt like eddie
