Paul Murray signs new SKY News deal

SKY News announces a three year agreement with presenter Paul Murray, and extends his show to 1 hour in 2011.

SKY News today announced an exclusive three year agreement with presenter Paul Murray, host of Paul Murray Live.

When Murray’s show returns in 2011 it will be extended to one-hour and will air Monday – Thursday at 9.00pm.

SKY News CEO, Angelos Frangopoulos said: “Paul Murray is an extraordinary talent and I’m delighted he’s agreed to be a big part of Australia’s News Channel for the next three years and beyond.

Paul Murray Live has become must watch television and we have exciting plans to further develop the program in 2011 as SKY News marks its 15th year on air.”

Paul Murray added: “There’s plenty of room for opinion on TV. The key is to try and make it well informed and argue things you honestly believe in, even when they aren’t popular.

“SKY News has backed me in for a long time with various shows and have given Paul Murray Live time to get it right. Now they’re throwing everything they have to make it even bigger next year and beyond. I couldn’t feel more supported by a great group of people.”

Murray has been presenting his program for the last three years.

This week SKY News also premiered Hadley! with radio host Ray Hadley.

  1. Hi Paul
Just want to know why Business want to employ works from over seas to work our mines. They hire trade people and put them on a 4 year contract, when Australian people are looking for this type of work!!!! Then when there is a down turn in work guess who gets to keep there jobs on site ? The overseas workers stay because there on a 4 year contract and Aussies lose there jobs!!!
They are told that they can`t join the Union because they are not Australians!!!
Business Tell eveyone that they cannot find the trades people they need!!!
They lie I know many trades people that cannot find this type of work!!!
Why is Business sacking so many people in mine sites for no reason
    what is going on ?

  2. A member of the Australian Psychics Assocation Jacqui Lees shared her prediction for the coming year in ” thatslife .com.au” a few months ago she said.
‘The Australian government will be shaken by a major scandal and Julia Gillard’s actions and judgement will be called into question. After a prolonged and expensive investigation, a new prime mister may be elected

  3. Absolutely love the show, but cannot stand Peter Fitzsimmons, if that is his name!!! the guy with the red scarf, what an absolute know all, I had to switch off……

  4. This show has completely ruined my FTA viewing as I find myself drawn to the freewheeling exchange between Paul and his guests – the first show I can remember since The Panel to causally discuss the issues of the day

  5. Paul Murray might not be everyone’s cup of tv but he definitely has the sort of traits sadly lacking on Australian tv. He is erudite, witty, authentic, passionate and informed and who else can you say that about in the local industry?

  6. Paul Murray has been with Sky News for a few years now, his first crack at a show 180° didn’t really take off.

He really took off when his show “Paul Murray Live” started. picking the right topics to talk about and the interacting with the twitterverse really has given him a cult following on the show.

  7. 9pm is still an odd slot considering Oz FTA and cable networks programme on the half hour. 7.30, 8.30, 9.30 etc.

The show should start at 8.30 or 9.30 to maximise ratings.

  8. Although he can sometimes get in to long winded lectures he generally does a good job. While he was away last night the lady Perrett sat in and it was pretty woeful.

Hadley! last night wasn’t all that great but it’s only its first show so plenty of time to bed things down.

  9. Horrible show. The host talks at a million miles an hour, they gloss over things without any sort of depths and the guests are either unfunny or moronic.

It’s just talkback radio on TV.

This show, Australian Agenda, the guests on Contrarians and this new Hadley show are why I don’t bother with Sky News anymore. It’s too right-wing just Fox News-lite.

  10. I like Paul, he has a charming presence and warmth on screen and has a great analytical mind and some great attitudes. I am not so enamored with some of his cohorts, like a certain Channel 9 reporter, a fashion editor, and a former Beauty and the beast panelist. But i guess like Q&A you have to have an array of views. His questions and postulations can run as lengthy and a Kerry O’Brien one. He’d be very engaging at a party!
