Denise Borino-Quinn, who played the wife of a mob boss in The Sopranos, has died of cancer at 46.
Borino-Quinn died in hospital last Wednesday in New Jersey.
In The Sopranos, she played ‘Ginny Sacramoni’, married to ‘Johnny Sacramoni’ (Vince Curatola) and battling a weight problem.
Borino-Quinn was a legal secretary and part-time manicurist when she won the part in a 2000 open casting call, from 14,000 other hopefuls. It was a casting call she had attended simply to support a friend.
She appeared in 17 episodes of the drama and became popular with fans of the show.
After appearing on The Sopranos she lost 80kg through stomach stapling surgery.
A funeral was held on Saturday.

I like the idea of the movie. Particularly with the way the final series really fell off at a rather critical time, with Tony about to be pulled in on RICO charges.. they could make a lot of that. The FBI agent could somehow cut him loose, he flees to “the other side”, and sets up camp there while acting as a boss back to jersey. Then somehow getting wound up in some italy-newyork war.. it could really work well.
Not to mention Gandolfini is still only fairly young himself, they could still wait 20 years and do it then.. hell, on the show Junior Soprano (Dominic Chianese) was a boss at 80.

That’s really sad. So young too, 46 should only be half-way there.
I agree with PT Ryan that the Sopranos casting people seemed to find really compelling ‘unknowns’ who could act their pants off. For example, the excellent Sylvio (the consiliere) was Bruce Springsteen’s guitarist in the E Street Band and they cast his actual wife to play his wife in the series.
I sure hope they do a Sopranos movie before they lose too many more of their irreplaceable stars.
One of the great things about The Sopranos was its use of little-known or non-professional actors. Didn’t realise she was so young. 🙁 RIP.
i loved the episodes that ensued from “the joke” that Ralph Cifaretto made about Ginny.. a hellstorm that rained down from Johnny. Which ended when he found her munching on some chokkies that were hidden in a tumble dryer in her basement.
