@Paull- absolutely not, there hardly any decent shows on the main channels over summer that require a HD airing. They are all repeats, I’d much prefer the chance that there is actually something decent on TV by having as many channels as possible. There are not no more HD channels, if OneHD counts then so do 7mate and Gem. When One came along there was anger about the loss of channel 10 shows in HD, but obviously that fades with time given the regard with which you now hold it as though it is the lone beacon of hope for HD.

    i never watch 7two.
    thats weird.

but really glad to see Glee as the most watched non-news program on the week :D

@Paull – suspending channels over summer isn’t going to happen. Any brand awareness they are trying to build would be lost if the channel just wasn’t there for some months.

  4. Paull December 6, 2010 at 10:19 am -

@ Matt: That’s exactly why I was calling for a suspension of 7mate and Gem during the summer non-ratings period, so that 7 & 9 could start airing HD programmes again.

  5. David Knox December 6, 2010 at 9:11 am -

    Anti-Siphoning List prevents that.

  6. Jeremy December 6, 2010 at 8:45 am -

Go! Has started to lose its way. Shows like Conan should be on Go! And put the movies on Gem. Right now, I can barely tell the stations apart. Friends on Gem, Seinfeld on Go! And 7mate has a more consistent lineup than both of them.

  7. Gaz December 6, 2010 at 8:35 am -

Could someone in the know, please advise whether or not it’s possible for the Ashes telecast to continue on GO!, when the main channel commences its News/CA programming? Oh…and if it is possible, what moron at 9 thinks repeats of the Flinstones etc, is going to pull higher ratings???? Thanks in advance.

  8. Maev December 5, 2010 at 10:25 pm -

@ David….I am sure most folk who come in here are interested in the weekly ratings….and more importantly….the work you do here and the effort you put in to make a really interesting and informative site.

  9. Matt December 5, 2010 at 10:02 pm -

Do people not realise that Channel Nine’s HD channel is GEM and that Channel Seven’s is 7mate? all their other channels are SD…

  10. Nathan December 5, 2010 at 7:48 pm -

@Knowfirst Great piece of ageism right there, I’m twenty and I watch a lot of the “older” comedies that are aired, same for the comedies on GEM, Go! and the action series on 7mate.

  11. CatFan December 5, 2010 at 6:20 pm -

My fave shows on 7TWO: Fawlty Towers, Love Thy Neighbour, George & Mildred, Bless This House, Man About The House. Is there a common theme? ;)

  12. Knowfirst December 5, 2010 at 5:19 pm -

You know your channel is crap when it can only rate decently during the Summer period where the only people watching anything are old!

  13. David Knox December 5, 2010 at 4:59 pm -

Weekly ratings not important? Interesting. I can start taking Sundays off!

  14. Craig(Buzz) December 5, 2010 at 4:16 pm -

    Not important,this story

  15. Paull December 5, 2010 at 2:55 pm -

@Craig: There’s no reason why Conan (and other new content) couldn’t continue airing, seeing as it’s summer, and thus a non-ratings period, why not put conan on channel 9- then it could be simulcast on 9hd.

Also, we don’t even get conan in hd, it’s sd, aswell as ellen- it used to be hd back when it was simulcast, now days it’s simply sd on GEM.

  16. timmy December 5, 2010 at 2:15 pm -

    oh, good :)

  17. David Knox December 5, 2010 at 1:49 pm -

Already checked and already debunked that rumour Timmy.

  18. Craig December 5, 2010 at 1:49 pm -

@Paull – only problem with that idea (HD simulcast) is what happens to the new content like Conan?

  19. timmy December 5, 2010 at 1:16 pm -

According to this “Network-Seven” Facebook page 7TWO will be dropped from 1 January, with 7mate switching to standard definition, and 7HD (simulcast of Seven) making a return. However I totally doubt the authenticity of this information, based on the crappy low res Seven logo used on that page.

  20. Andrew December 5, 2010 at 12:54 pm -

@pietro. Don’t believe everything you read on Facebook.

  21. Neil December 5, 2010 at 12:44 pm -

I think 7two is starting to find it self!

  22. pietro December 5, 2010 at 12:17 pm -

And it would be interesting to see GEM’s figures if it had shown HD cricket.

  23. jamie December 5, 2010 at 12:10 pm -

wonder what will happen next week if GO dont add in 6 big bang eps on Friday and thurday like they did last week

  24. pietro December 5, 2010 at 11:46 am -

I keep reading that 7 mate is going and Seven is going back to simulcasting the main channel. One can only hope.

  25. Paull December 5, 2010 at 11:38 am -

Has anyone else noticed that 7Two has completely repositioned itself, compared to where it was a year ago. There is no more ‘youth/ male’ oriented shows, no more themed nights, no more action shows, just all British and 45plus shows. But I think it’s a good thing, because at least 7two has direction, rather than simply being a duplicate of the main channel, or a GO! competitor. 7two has moved itself more into the quality of channels like ONEhd, abcnews 24 and abc3- those 3 channels, despite having lower shares in audience, are true multi-channels and aren’t simple ratings grabbers.

I’m still not happy with GEM and 7mate, because they essentially mean no more HD channels (appart from oneHD). I wish, during the summer ratings period, that GEM and 7mate would turn back into HD simu-casts of the main channel, afterall, it’s summer and the channels aren’t trying to ‘win’ each ratings week.
