Oprah upstages summer ratings battle

By David Knox on December 19, 2010 / Filed Under News 9

The third week of summer ratings was a close battle as Nine’s Ashes coverage helped it take the fight to Seven. In the end just 0.3% split the two rivals, in Seven’s favour.

Seven’s win was boosted by its performance in digital channels, Nine actually won on primary share. Nine also won all three demos 16 – 39, 18 – 49 and 25 – 54 plus five nights of the week.

But in a week of low audiences, TEN saw Oprah take two of the Top Ten spots, reflecting the excitement of her visit to Australia.

Oprah with a fawning Angela Bishop. Aaah, that’s about as good as it gets for me !

@stevieg…That interview has already been on Sky, not sure if they will repeat it. I’m sure Ten will screen it next year with teh Aussie shows.

  3. Donald December 20, 2010 at 10:08 am -

Craig, 9 only cares about winning the ratings, and since only primetime counts towards “daily” share they probably don’t care about Oprah or anything else on during the day (daytime is still the domain of 10, but unfortunately that doesn’t help them in the “daily” ratings).

  4. Craig December 19, 2010 at 7:16 pm -

I’m amazed 7 or 9 haven’t tried to poach Oprah from TEN.

reesie: be thankful you’re not in Brisbane and/or didn’t watch the “Lord Mayor’s Carols in the City” on 9 the night before.

I’m still trying to work out what the dude with the gun was supposed to represent during the Dreamworld-themed “12 Days of Christmas” song…

(p.s. If anybody PVR’d it, drop me a line. It needs to go up on YouTube so the whole world can take the p**s out of it!)

  7. reesie December 19, 2010 at 3:29 pm -

lol @ Carols in the Domain.

7 are just. terrible. at it.
the linup, the hosts, the transparent promos and sponsorship fails, it was as cringe worthy as the ARIAs…. Christmas style.

  8. stevieg December 19, 2010 at 2:15 pm -

Are we going to see Barbara Walters interview with Oprah?

  9. newtaste December 19, 2010 at 1:35 pm -

Angela Bishop’s “Interview” with Oprah went for about 3 mins and Ten somehow dragged it out for 40 mins!
