The ABC has picked up new UK sci-fi series Outcasts and natural history series Human Planet in a deal with BBC Worldwide Australia.
Outcasts (8×50’ A Kudos Film and Television Production) is described as ‘a gripping fast paced tale of a group of courageous pioneers facing a unique opportunity; the chance to build a new and better future on another planet.’
A top cast includes Eric Mabius (Ugly Betty, The L Word), Jamie Bamber (Battlestar Galactica, Band of Brothers) and Hermione Norris (Spooks, Cold Feet).
Narrated by award-winning actor John Hurt, Human Planet (8×50’ BBC/Discovery Channel/France Television co-production) is the latest from the BBC Earth portfolio. It follows in the footsteps of BBC natural history programs such as Planet Earth and Life, and explores the ‘complex, profound and sometimes challenging relationship between humankind and nature.’
Also included in the deal are the second series detective drama Whitechapel (3×50’, a Carnival Films production for ITV), stand-up comedy series Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (6×45’, An Open Mike Production) and another new natural history series, Mountain Gorillas (3×50’).
Brendan Dahill, ABC1 Controller said, “In 2011, ABC1 is looking to offer viewers some significant “must watch” programming and these latest BBC purchases certainly fit into that category.”

This looks like a refreshing change from the usual, cops, doctors and lawyer drama’s we are continually offered. Will definately give it a go.
Both sound quite interesting. Nice pickup for Auntie. Any news yet on broadcast dates?

If that was the case, you could also ask if Jamie Bamber had been bumped off in Law & Order: UK.
if Hermione Norris is in Outcasts – I wonder if Roz has been killed off Spooks.
Still though – sounds like a great cast – well worth a look-in.
