Seven extends 4:30pm News

From Monday Seven extends its Seven News at 4:30pm to one hour, every weekday.

From Monday Seven extends its Seven News at 4:30pm to one hour, every weekday.

The move follows Nine recently extending its arvo news to one hour.

As a result Surf Patrol is out.

  1. Nick is right. Deal is the problem.

The only thing keeping Deal afloat these days is the strong figures in Adelaide and Perth.

Seven should be looking at revamping 5:30 on the east coast (creating a “local hour” from 5:30 to 6:30 with Deal moving to 5pm), while retaining Deal (reboot, new host etc.) at 5:30 in Adelaide and Perth (which already have this “local hour” concept with local TT’s at 6:30).

  2. Why do people still fight over the tiny differences between Nine & Seven? It’s a television version of those Ford Vs Holden bogans. They’re both the same!

  3. remember the days when news was at 6. Afternoons after school were cartoons-like scooby-doo, top cat, the flintstones. With live action series like-Jim Bowie, Batman,The Samuari,The mann from Uncle, and comedy such as (reptsof Gilligan, Jennie, Hogan Heroes,Patty Duke Show and ete. All the british kids series- like ace of wands, tomorrow people, catweazle,Flaxton boys, classic Dr.Who.
Now we have News, News, News instead of game show,s game shows, game shows-Today I like Tv is losing battle with the net

  4. So there’s only 30 minutes between the afternoon news and the 6pm news? That’s stupid, but I suppose it’s not as bad as Ten’s 2.5 straight hours of news. What’s with all the news, people?? So unoriginal.

  5. Huh? Why would they extend news to 5.30pm and then only half an hour later another news service begins at 6? Surely not another earth shattering event would happen in 30 minutes?

What with 10’s coming news serivce, isn’t this all overkill? Do people really want non-stop news??

At least 7’s move has banished MASH to the ether – for now, I’m sure it will return yet again one day!

  6. Surely more expensive than MASH repeats? And for what purpose? The dead duck is Deal or No Deal. It’s time for Walter to bankrupt this repetitive and tiresome format.

  7. I use to watch Ten News…and loved it….But then they ‘dumped’ Ron Wilson…..and replaced him with that stiff…uninteresting….sports presenter person…..
They still have Tim.. the great little weather man…..and now Sandra Sully is back after many years….all they need is Ron….and it would be perfect……
Until that happens…..I have not and do not watch news….other than news breaks…
    Get my news online……

  8. @ gary

Actually Seven was first with the 4.30 news back in 2003, and Nine followed, Seven dropped their late news first, and Nine followed. 9 and 7 both copy each other! They follow one another all the time.

And yes Sevens 4.30 News was the best when presented from Melbourne with Rebecca Maddern and David Johnson.

  9. I love how everyone is saying seven is following nine when in fact both networks are doing this to follow ten. 7 and 9 are starting to get a little worried about tens news block in 2011

  10. Nine leads and Seven follows, but Seven wins the ratings.

Nine news is awful – that Overton guy is such a w*nker. I can’t to see his face for more than 2 seconds before reaching for a hammer.
