The Kyra Sedgwick series on cable network TNT will wrap at seven seasons, surpassing 100 episodes next year.

“It’s impossible to fully express our appreciation to Kyra Sedgwick, series creator James Duff and all of the other talented people who brought The Closer to TNT viewers,” said Turner Entertainment Network’s Steve Koonin.

The Closer was a pivotal series in setting a new course for TNT’s original programming, while also serving as a prime example of the storytelling strength possible on cable television.”

Sedgwick said, “I cannot fathom how difficult it will be to say goodbye to the incredible family we’ve created on The Closer.”

“I will always be grateful to James Duff for his love and friendship, as well as for creating such a rich and complex character who I have loved living with year after year. Mike, Greer, Rick and all of our outstanding cast and crew are forever in my heart. I want to thank TNT and Warner Bros. 1. I love The Closer but got sick of Nein playing darts with its schedule, so I ended up buying the DVD sets. I’ll be sorry to see such a high quality show finish, but at least we got 7 seasons out of it.

Other shows with great potential didn’t fare as well over the years. FlashForward, Eli Stone, Kings, Surface and Invasion are just some of the many shows that were cut short too soon, without having been given the chance to grow an audience.

  2. I love this show! Nein showed it for 2and a Half years, then dumped it and then brought it back to Gem out of season sequence. Thank goodness for other ways to watch it!! – Mitrebin

  3. Got bored with it after the 1st season.
It was just so predictable that it became very boring for me.
7 years was a long time, so lots of people must have enjoyed it.

  4. So sad. The best procedural cop drama/comedy on television. My wife and I love this show and will be sad to see it go. Apparently it was Kyra who brought about the demise by saying she would not renew her contract, of course her decision, and as such a major character – the show would not be the same without her. None the less, We will miss her and the amazing ensemble cast.
