68th Golden Globe Awards: Guide

All the info you need to know on the TV nominees for Monday's Golden Globe Awards.

On Monday the Hollywood Foreign Press Association will recognise the year’s best in both film and television at the 68th Golden Globe Awards.

They are generally seen as an indicator of where the Oscars will fall (we’re actually still awaiting the nominees!) Because the HFPA comprises journos, the list of winners doesn’t always go for the top stars and isn’t afraid to recognise oveseas performers.

Toni Collette is the sole Australian actor to be nominated in the television awards -however Geoffrey Rush, Nicole Kidman and Jacki Weaver have all been nominated in the film awards.

The event will air live in Australian on FOX8 at midday with a replay later on Monday night. The Red Carpet will also screen live to air in 2 broadcasts. But there is no Free to Air broadcast…..

TV Tonight will be blogging the TV results as they are announced on Monday afternoon.

Countdown to the Red Carpet: 9am AEDT on E!

  1. Just found out that the Globes will not be on free to air to at least brighten up a lack lustre run of repeats with some ascerbic wit from Ricky Gervais. The additional channels are a joke playing the odd contemporary show in between 40 year old ones that we would hire or buy a box set of DVDs if we wanted to watch again. It is no wonder that DVD hire is still alive and kicking and the internet is being scoured for decent entertainment!

  2. So no FTA and the studios and station owners wonder why people download. Wonder if they will ever get it?! Murdoch tweeting today about Google being the biggest file trader yet no inward looking…i.e I wonder why? Living in the 70’s. By the time these dinosaurs catch up their businesses will be bust or facing another enquiry. 🙂

  3. No free to air Golden Globes…well…well…well… this only confirms my steadfast conviction that the gross avarice of overpriced Pay TV, which delivers, in general, low brow productions, is not worth buying into.

Yes, I want to see Ricky Gervais, but I am not paying the Murdock Empire for the privilege!!!

But, this Pay TV grab, is also a testament to the morons in charge of production acquisition at 7, 9 and 10, all of whom suffered a big backlash in the ratings this holiday season for treating the public with contempt by delivering up garbage and then, to add insult to injury, garbage that has been recycled in quick succession.

    Screw the lot of you!

  4. is it just me or did Sly Stallone look like a walking corpse??? wearing a siut straight out of the 70’s, botoxed to death, more pancake than my old mother on Saturday nite – and tortured, died hair made ot look like a 16 year old? wow, talk about not acting your age!!! he should look at Michael Douglas, not Michael Jackson ….!

  5. No FTA time-slot? BUut what channel is broadcasting the GLobes on Pay Tv? Rupert Murdoch! This is just another scheme to get more people to pay for TV. F*** pay TV. Honestly

  6. Sure it’d cool seeing actors looking glamorous in nice, grossly overpriced clothes, but to quote Nikki Finke below, the GG awards are a total joke and always have been, so I wouldn’t get too upset about missing this.

    – The Golden Globes is a completely meaningless awards show by a scandal-riddled organization on a network desperate for ratings. That’s why I opt out of analyzing the nominations every year: because the Golden Globes have zero integrity. Studios and networks who lavishly lobby the HFPA almost always score nominations. Stars win in direct correlation to their glamour quotient. Everything about the awards is geared towards hyping the media’s interest and the telecast’s ratings. Even the small motley group of 85 mostly freelancers who belong to the HFPA, won’t grant membership to real foreign journalists at the prestige newspapers across the world. That’s because the clique don’t want to dilute the financial bonanza they receive from the studios and networks who arrange exclusive interviews about the year’s movies and TV shows. NBC and Dick Clark Productions could clean up the Globes but choose not to.

  7. I was just searching for which channel had the globes this year and I can’t believe there is no FTA showing it. That’s ridiculous! And yet, every single solitary sport will be televised!!!! So annoying! I can’t believe Network 10 is choosing to screen “Just for Laughs: Montreal Comedy Festival” instead of the globes!

  8. No free-to-air broadcast?! There are more than 15 free-to-air channels and not one of them can offer this to us? I’ve been waiting for Months to watch this. Film fanatics never get fair treatment. This is ridiculous. Hopefully, free-to-air will make up for it by broadcasting the Oscars (which is a shame because I have school but I wouldn’t mind staying up until 2AM for it).

  9. I guess with the websites all over the world breaking the winners and updating info, by the time the delayed telecasts have rolled around, a good majority of people at the very least know the winners and couldn’t care less about fashion or acceptance speeches. Logies and Oscars aside, award shows do not rate well enough for networks to bother with. Plus GG falls outside of ratings. Just my view.

  10. Justin Bieber is a presenter? Doesn’t that just scream ‘prestige’. Though I guess playing a corpse on CSI does technically make him an actor…of sorts.

  11. Globes like to be on the ball with tv awards – they rewarded Rachel Griffiths for Six feet under after half a season and Anna Paquin for True Blood. I think they will veer away from Mad Men and Dexter and go for Boardwalk, Steve Buschemi and Anarchy’s Sagal. Just a feeling. Jane Lynch has to win also – although the support tv categories are loopy – mixing mini series, telefeatures and series all in one. Laura Linney for The big C, and maybe finally Steve Carell.
