Desperate pay claim delays renewal

A renewal for Desperate Housewives can't be locked in while Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross are seeking pay rises.

A renewal for Desperate Housewives can’t be locked in while Felicity Huffman, Eva Longoria and Marcia Cross are seeking pay rises, Bloomberg claims.

Teri Hatcher has already signed a new contract (despite that rumour she was looking for an exit).

“There are a lot of moving parts, but we have ambitions to pick it up,” Paul Lee, president of ABC Entertainment, said in an interview this week. “We expect to get the agreements in place but it just hasn’t happened yet.”

This is despite ABC recently announcing renewals for a number of its other shows.

In August, TVGuide.com put their pay at $400,000 each per episode.

Creator Marc Cherry has a deal for the show to 2013, but is also developing a new show called Hallelujah, set in a small Tennessee town of the same name.

Housewives is ABC’s most- watched scripted show.

Season 7 starts soon on Seven.

  1. Hi David, have you heard any news yet on whether there will be an 8th season of Desperate Housewives? It is more than half way through the 7th season now, surely a decision has been made by ABC?

  2. If their agents would be asking around 600 – 800 000 an episode, that’s reasonable as the DH show generates quite a lot of revenue, plus the male actors who play the husbands would want higher payment also. I would suggest finishing at season 7, unless they wish to hire a new, much cheaper cast.

  3. Channel 7 should have fast tracked this show – the world is changing – you can’t expect fans to wait for months to see it’s already underway in America.
Good on the girls sticking together, power in numbers & all!

  4. I thought Grey’s Anatomy was ABC’s #1 scripted drama and this was #2. Anyway regardless being in its 7th season coming up to its 8th they really should be given a fair go already. Its due to end in 2013 so give em what they want.
